Information For Winterbourne Medieval Barn Trust
Winterbourne Medieval Barn is a building of national importance. Built in 1342, just a few years before the Black Death swept across England, the barn is an extraordinary survivor of our medieval past
As a multi-purpose venue we host a range of activities for the local community including family activities, music and theatre performances, craft workshops, a monthly lecture series, and our flagship events the Medieval Fayre and Orchard Harvest Days.
The Barn makes a unique and beautiful setting for a magical wedding day and is available for hire all year round. The Barn and seminar rooms can also be hired for celebration events, film shoots, and meetings. Winterbourne Medieval Barn is a beautiful wedding venue bursting with rustic charm. Built all the way back in 1342, the barn is a truly historic experience for your big day. We’re located just a stone’s throw away from Bristol, giving you and your guests easy access to the city while maintaining a secluded, country feel.
The Barn is suitable for a variety of weddings and receptions, with the flexibility to create the event you want. The historic interior makes the perfect backdrop for a ceremony, a sit down meal, or a barn dance. And there’s plenty of outdoor space for garden games, drinks receptions, or even a picnic!
Our capacity ranges from 30 to 200 depending on how you’d like to use the space. We are now fully licensed for civil marriages and partnerships so can cater to any part of your special day. The Barn is a historic building so while we can be flexible with arrangements in many ways, there are some inevitable limitations. If you have an idea but aren’t sure if it will work, we’re very happy to discuss arrangements.
You are welcome to choose your own catering supplier, or provide food yourselves.
The main Barn is not fully heated. From mid-spring to mid autumn it is comfortable, and pleasantly cool in the height of summer.
As our building is not sound proofed, we are unable to accommodate a fully amplified band or DJ. Background music and amplification for speeches is permissible, as is some reinforcement for acoustic musicians.

Hazel is our Business & Development Manager - she takes the lead on all our private events as well as working with our wonderful volunteers to keep everything running smoothly. She's got nearly 8 years of experience working in wedding venues in Bristol, and has been with us at the barn since we finished our most recent refurbishment in Spring 2020. Ably supported by our duty managers, Hazel will be your main point of contact throughout the planning process, and will be very happy to discuss your ideas for your day and how they could work at our gorgeous (and slightly quirky!) venue.

Winterbourne Medieval Barn Trust Reviews

We held our wedding ceremony at Winterbourne Medieval barn and then went outdoors and had a drinks reception on the barn’s lawns outside.
We used all the grounds and have some lovely photos taken in the Barn’s garden. I loved the huge double barn doors!
This venue is perfect if you’re looking for a rustic barn wedding, an alternative to a hotel/stately home wedding, or a unique place to get married. Our guests all commented what a lovely venue for a wedding!
Organising our wedding at the barn was super easy and affordable. There’s different options for all different types of events with hire available from a few hours for just a ceremony to a few days for a full DIY dry hire wedding venue. By using our own wedding suppliers and the Winterbourne Barn recommended ones wedding suppliers (florist, cater, harpist etc) we were able to organise exactly what we wanted to create our dream wedding day to suit our budget!
Matt and Rheanne were great help both on the day and ahead, getting everything we needed set up exactly as we pictured.
The barn is in South Gloucestershire, very near to Bristol so many of our not local guests chose to make a long weekend of our wedding and enjoyed exploring Bristol too. Bonus!
We’d definitely recommend Winterbourne Medieval Barn for anyone looking to get married in the Bristol / Gloucestershire/ South West.

The massive open space at the back enabled us to have flexibility of what we wanted to do including having furniture and games outside.
The barn itself is huge and our guests were blown away by how beautiful the barn was! The asethics of the barn make it easy to decorate with simple decorations which created an effective atmosphere.
Hazel was amazing throughout even when the taxis didn't turn up for our guests!!
The barn will always hold a special place in my heart and we will be visiting regularly!!!
Thanks Hazel for everything!!!
