Upwey House offers a very different wedding venue. If you’re looking for a friendly, honest and laid-back vibe without compromising on the wow-factor, you’ve come to the right place.

Nestled in the hills of rural Dorset, the 17th century Grade 11 listed manor house offers an alternative from the more formal or corporate-style venue, giving you a “home away from home” feeling that celebrates the great outdoors, where anything goes and memories are made forever. Upwey House is not known as the "magic house" for nothing.

One of the unique aspects of Upwey House is that you can make the house exclusively your own for the duration of your stay. With luxurious accommodation at the house itself for up to 24 of your nearest and dearest, you can make your celebration about the “before and after” as well as the main event.

Use your wedding celebration as an excuse for a mini break with those you hold dearest. Kick off the celebrations with a pre-wedding dinner, enjoy a bucks-fizz breakfast on the terrace and relive your memories of your day with a relaxed BBQ or archetypally English cream tea amongst family and friends the day after. Camping is possible within the 23 acres of private grounds meaning you can create a festival buzz if you choose.

Upwey House is fully licensed for legal ceremonies and our small but dedicated team are passionate about allowing you to focus on what is important to you and helping you to create a truly magical celebration . We offer a minimum of a three-night stay over weekends and peak holiday periods as well as daily or one-nightly rental midweek or during off-peak periods.

We do not charge any corkage fees and, whilst we are very happy to recommend some excellent local suppliers, you are very free to bring in your own.

Roam free amongst the 23 acres of private land, tie the knot overlooking the views to the sea and party into the night taking in the incomparable ambience of the British countryside. We want you to use the space and the landscape to make your wedding exactly what you want it to be

Accommodation

Each of the 9 bedrooms room has its own personality and the superior quality mattresses, sumptuous pillows and high-count linen mean everyone gets a fantastic night’s sleep (if they want one). All of the 4 bathrooms have been modernised to include walk in showers and decadent baths.

We can help with additional accommodation in the village – there are many gorgeous and cosy cottages and B & B’s we can put you in touch with that are all walkable to the house. Nearby Weymouth and Dorchester offer a plethora of wonderful hotels. If you’re the camping types – we will allow you to pitch tents on the grounds for your guests too.

Wedding Ceremonies

Upwey House is fully licensed for legal ceremonies so you can say “I do” in the great outdoors under our gazebo or loggia. The 23 acres of beautiful Dorset land means you can welcome up to 160 guests. Smaller parties (up to 35 people) can conduct their ceremony inside in our light and airy Drawing Room. Non-legal blessings can be held anywhere – in the house, in our woodlands, in the orchard, on the bridge by the stream – whatever takes your fancy.

If you prefer a church wedding you will be made very welcome at the beautiful 13th Century church of St Lawrence in Upwey Village which is only a 10 minute amble to Upwey House.

Intimate weddings

For smaller, more intimate gatherings (under 60 people) you can host your guests on the terrace right by the house. Set up a table, and maybe an awning and you’re good to go. You might like to bring in a hog-roast or paella for a relaxed, festival vibe or treat your guests to a sumptuous three-course wedding breakfast with views over the fields of rural Dorset. You can bring in your own caterers or we can recommend excellent local suppliers who love and know Upwey House as we do.

Marquee weddings

For larger parties (over 60), erecting a marquee, tepee or bell tent on our lower lawn is a stunning and personal way to accommodate your guests in comfort and style. Make the atmosphere as informal or classic as you want using a circular table format, informal bench seating or sofas to offer respite to those with tired feet. Create your own atmosphere with fairy lights, striking floral adornments and tables laden with retro sweets and enticing cakes. Remember the choice is yours – you can even have a glass roof so you feel at one with the stars.

Bring in your own cocktail bar or stay local with a cider or beer wagon – there’s no corkage charge here so you can supply your own booze.

Entertainment is key to any party – we can recommend bands, string quartets, DJ’s, silent disco’s, magicians or Punch and Judy shows or bouncy castles for the little ones. Set up a game of croquet on the lawn or even a hot tub on the terrace. All is possible at Upwey House. This is a celebration house and we want you to celebrate.
