Hello :) I am the General Manager of Deighton Lodge. My role is to assist you from the very first meeting right through until the big day itself! I am hugely passionate about my role here at Deighton Lodge and absolutely love getting to know each individual couple and what they require from their special day. From the first minute we are introduced I like to get a feel of the kind of couple you are and how you envisage your wedding day. Arranging for you to come and take a look at the stunning surroundings here at Deighton, the beautiful farm house and of course our fabulous rustic barn, arranging the date and assisting with all of the finer details. For me, however, the best part is seeing it all come together over the months/years and finally ensuring the vision you had becomes a reality. I will look forward to meeting you and assisting in creating your special day.
Top Wedding Tips
BUDGET- plan it out, stick to it! Weddings are expensive and exciting times but be careful not to get into debt that you will pay for, for years to come.
GUEST LIST- plan your guest list first! You can not pick your venue without knowing how many guests will be there. The number of guests dictate the place, style, theme, food etc.
FOOD - Create a menu that suits YOU! Forget what others think a wedding meal should look like because they like traditional, have what you want. There are so many amazing caterers out there!
Deighton Lodge Reviews

It was ideal for what we were looking for:
The barn has been renovated to a great standard but retains it’s rustic charm and has so much character. It’s huge so there is plenty of room to accommodate larger numbers during the day and obviously loads of room for a massive party in the evening. It’s effectively a blank canvas so you can literally plan your dream wedding. Carla the owner was brilliant and great to deal with, she pretty much gave us a free reign so we were able to organise and decorate exactly how we had dreamt.
We got married in the lovely garden, it was incredible and so private. We had drinks in the garden after the ceremony and all the guests loved being outside in the garden, with the beautiful countryside surroundings. So many commented how fantastic it was.
To top off the above, you get to stay at the venue in a huge, recently refurbished farmhouse. This was another massive plus and enabled us to spend time with our friends and family in the build up to the wedding and it just made it feel so personal and relaxed. We were also able to extend our stay for the Sunday evening so we could have a BBQ and carry on the celebrations.
We really cannot praise this venue enough if you are looking for a venue with a wow factor, in beautiful surroundings, where you can put your own personal stamp and with great onsite accommodation this is the place for you!

Of course the great British Weather didn't allow us to wed outdoors, but that didn't matter, in fact I think we took more pride in adding all the little extras to the barn to make it even more incredible. We had both the ceremony and the reception at Deighton Lodge, and were able to choose all of our own suppliers, which meant the day was completely how we wanted it to be. Throughout the day our guests commented on the uniqueness and beauty of the venue, emphasising how it was like "nowhere they had ever seen before" and like "walking into a different room" once it had been set up for the reception. Carla was there as a helping hand throughout the planning to answer any questions we had in the lead up to the day. She even arrived the day before to help answer any questions, keep us calm, and assist us with the drapes for the ceremony.
The setting allowed it to be much more than 'one day', our families are still talking about our "wedding weekend" and the moments they shared both on the day, before the wedding and afterwards, it really has brought two families closer so thank you

We knew we wanted a barn or an old industrial style venue for our wedding. We had ties in Manchester and Yorkshire so narrowing down the area we wanted to get married in took us a bit of time. Once we’d settled on Yorkshire, we ended up googling something like ‘barn wedding venue Yorkshire’ and, among others, up popped Deighton Lodge. ‘How did you find this venue?’ was the question we got asked most on our day!
Deighton Lodge was also one of the first venues to offer viewings when restrictions started to ease. It ended up being the first and only venue we actually went to see. We loved it so we went for it. We had viewed others online but couldn’t physically go and see them due to lockdown and after seeing Deighton Lodge we didn’t want to look anywhere else. The barn itself is stunning; the refurbishment they’ve done on it is terrific. It looks modern but still keeps the rustic elements of the barn and that’s exactly what we were looking for, and from what we’d seen online that seemed quite rare.
We also really liked the fact that it was completely dry hire so we could make the venue work for us rather than us having to work around the venue. The freedom to choose every supplier down to the furniture really helped make our day individual to us. Having the farmhouse attached was an added bonus and being able to stay the night before as well as on the wedding night, without having to arrange any extra transport or accommodation and having the full bridal and grooms party there, was just brilliant. It also meant no stress with trying to get there!
One of our favourite moments was the post-ceremony/post speeches mingling. The big legal and stressful parts were out of the way. We consciously planned our day in quite a laid back way so we could just relax and it really gave us chance to chat to friends and family we’d not seen in ages, and in some cases, literal years. Having everyone together after all the lockdowns and getting to see – and hug! – everybody was just the best feeling!
A shout out to our brilliant photographer, who not only expertly herded all the cats that were our strong-willed family and friends during the staged photos, but she also captured the day beautifully. She did an absolutely amazing job, the photos are stunning. So many people have commented on the brilliant job she did!
We had the New York Brass Band for our evening entertainment. The band were another part of the day we really enjoyed. We always knew we were going to go with a brass band but we didn’t realise how much everyone else would love them too. It was so much fun to have everyone dancing and getting into it (earlier than normal at a British wedding!), and just generally having a brilliant time.
We loved seeing everyone we love enjoying themselves. It made the evening even more fun – especially after the 18 months everyone had had.
During the planning everything was a bit up in the air. Since we didn’t know if there’d be restrictions, we planned for every eventuality we could think of – including a reduced guest list. So actually getting to go with Plan A and have (nearly) everyone there that we wanted to be there was just amazing. It meant that the time we got to actually chat to people was extra special. All of these things combined meant we could have a wedding that was truly ‘us’ in this venue without having to compromise, and that’s absolutely how it turned out.

We looked at a few barn venues but some were restrictive on who you could use and some didn’t have accommodation. I stumbled on Deighton – I widened the search area as we live in Sheffield and happened upon it and even from the pictures I had a really good feeling. We went to see it with our best man who was staying with us at the time and he said he knew from my face that this was the venue. The barn is beautiful, the house is finished to a really high standard and it had all the outdoor space we could have wanted right in the middle of Yorkshire countryside.
Our original date was 20th June 2020 but obviously Covid had other ideas. We re-booked for just over a year later for the 26th of June and spent 12 months worrying if it would go ahead. Carla and all the Deighton team were really supportive and once the guidelines came out, we worked through them together to see what sort of day we could have. As it happened, this was 3 days before our wedding day and it was really stressful having to confirm things that close to the date but the team made it as easy as it could be and all weekend went above and beyond for us and our guests.
We were able to get married outside (even though it torrentially rained all day Friday) and we had the most relaxed and beautiful ceremony on the lawn. The welcome drinks after were amazing (thank you Louisiannas) and all of our guests commented on how amazing it was to be back together – our guest list just fit the new restrictions so we could have everyone we wanted there which was just wonderful.
Our wedding photographer (Adam Lowndes Photography) was just amazing on the day. Even before the wedding his communication was fabulous and he captured our day and the colours so well. I cannot recommend him enough, his work speaks for itself but he is one of the best decisions we made. I’d also like to thank Laura at Ambience York. We wanted a really bright colour scheme of pink and orange – she said at the time how happy the colours made her and it was a fresh change from neutral. The venue looked absolutely stunning and I am so glad we used them for our wedding day. Seeing all of our guests together on the first weekend out of tight lockdown, some who we hadn’t seen for 18 months, was just the most wonderful feeling. So many of our guests have commented on how lovely it was and how much they enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and we got the party we wanted at night too! Deighton allowed us to have a wedding weekend that was ‘us’ without being restricted to any single supplier and we would recommend them to anyone.
I’d like to thank Ella and Sharon who were the coordinator and manager for the weekend. Without them and their huge effort, along with our other suppliers who worked within the guidelines and helped ensure we had the most amazing weekend, our wedding wouldn’t have been the fabulous weekend that it was. We couldn’t be more grateful for the work they put in and they are a credit to Deighton and the team.
