Hi! My name is James.
Lapwing is the English translation of my wife’s maiden name. I wanted to take her surname when we got married but she wouldn’t let me - so instead I dedicated my business to her name.
I was born in Blackpool but now live in Bingley, West Yorkshire. I live with my wife and our two dogs. I started making travel films on the holidays my wife and I (and sometimes our dogs!) went on so that we’d have something to look back on.
On the day of our wedding, I thought, “I could make a great film out of this.” So, I started making wedding films.
A wedding film isn’t just a compilation of clips from a wedding - that’s a wedding video. A wedding film is a thoughtfully crafted story of two things that are inextricably linked: Your relationship and your wedding day.
Obviously, each couple knows their own stories best. However, I’ll do my best to get to know you and your story. If you trust me to create your wedding films, three things will happen:
Considered, Thoughtful preparation - When you get in touch with me, we’ll get to know each other by voice, video call or meeting in person. I’ll learn about you and your story and you can learn about me. We’ll also have calls throughout the build up to your wedding to enable me to build a timetable of your day so that nothing is missed. Building trust is an essential part of hiring a wedding supplier - after all, you’re going to be giving them your money, so you want to know they’ll turn up on your wedding day.
Discreet, cinematic filming - When it comes to shooting your wedding, I aim to blend in as much as possible. I use small, silent cameras and tiny audio recorders so that the atmosphere of your wedding day isn’t punctuated by unsightly pieces of equipment. One thing my couples often tell me when they watch their films afterwards is how much I captured without them realising it or knowing I was there.
Creative, Story-led Editing - After the wedding day, the first thing I do is backup your footage (onto 3 separate hard drives!) Then, the editing process begins. I consider everything that I hear from you during our calls, as well as what I hear on the wedding day from you and your guests. This enables me to put your story together and present you with films that are unique to you.
These three things enable me to immerse myself in your wedding and to tell your stories through the films I create.
Every couple’s story and wedding day is different.

Top Wedding Tips
Make sure you have a consultation with each videographer you're interested in book to ensure not only their style but also their personality matches up with yours.
Videography and photography are best kept separate, unless there are dedicated photographers and videographers in the same business. You may find one area suffers at the expense of the other.
Don't worry about the camera! When I film, I do so in a discreet way, remaining as unobtrusive as possible.

He is the most lovely person and so incredibly talented at what he does. Throughout the day he was so attentive and made sure every little detail planned was captured for us to view back!
We were lucky to get our trailer teaser about a week after we got married, and watched it whilst on honeymoon. I’ll never forget watching it for the first time, getting goosebumps and feeling like I was watching a movie trailer. We knew that if this was just the teaser, that we were in for such a treat for the rest of what was to come!
We honestly cannot thank him enough for his time, effort and amazing videography skills. We absolutely love how he captured all the little details, and the amount of emotion from tears in the speeches and in the vows to laughter throughout the whole day. It’s so lovely to see how much everyone enjoyed the day and see all the moments we we didn’t manage to. The first look moments with my bridesmaids and father of the bride are some of many favourites, and of course we love ALL the clips of Freddie! (The star of the show said by nearly every guest ).
We are incredibly happy and so grateful he was able to capture our day. The videos are even more amazing than we ever dreamed of!

He went above and beyond to be in the right place at the right time, from dawn till dusk, just to be sure he would frame those perfect moments that we will be fortunate enough to reminisce with our friends and family. It also helps that he’s super tall! :-D
