A girl at work said today: Why don't you email your hotel and say it's your honeymoon? She said her mum has done it for her honeymoon and got champagne and flowers and mention it at the airport in case they can give you an upgrade or anything.
It makes me cringe a little bit but is it worth doing?
Thanks. :)
CommentAuthorMrsNoz2b
I would say so, im not going abroad so i havent tried it but ino when ive been on holidays before theres always i little segment that says free champagne etc for honeymoon couples. x
CommentAuthortrikstaniksta
We will but we are taking the kids with us so don't know if theyll be able to do as much as if it was just the two of us! Worth a try though xxx
CommentAuthorSam
Yes, but I wouldn't expect anything. I'd just mention it and see what happens. I definitely think it's a bad idea to say, "it's my honeymoon upgrade me." or whatever. That would be beyond rude.
CommentAuthorminnie11061990
my sister just got married and it worked for them. not in the airport but in the hotels that they are staying. i would say its woth a try x
Yes it's worth a try! Especially if booking your honeymoon through a travel agent as they tend to send a note to the hotel for you so when you get there they already know you are on honeymoon. The worst that can happen is you don't get anything, it's not like you would be losing anything by mentioning it! xxx

We are going on our minimoon in a couple of weeks and i have mentioned that it is our honeymoon on the 'anything else you need to tell us' section on the online booking form.I just said 'this will be our honeymoon and we are really looking forward to spending it at your hotel'. I felt a bit silly but they can ignore it if they want and i've lost nothing1 xxx

We got a booking form for our villa and they asked was it for a special occassion - we put our honeymoon and we got upgraded to "VIP Status" which meant we got bathrobes, dvds were free to borrow, we got additional cleaning free of charge and also if we had problems (like no dishwasher tablets or the pool level getting low)they were there within 10 mins fixing it :) Oh and our airline tried to upgrade our seats but unfotunetly the plane was fully booked - we also got an announcement on the plane!
I really did marry my Mr Wright and we had a nice day for a

Definitely go for it, I will be! I've noticed a lot of brochures state that you have to produce your wedding certificate as confirmation but thats no hardship. Some of the hotels I've seen give you champagne, chocs, flowers, fruit baskets, room upgrades, meal for 2, spa treatments etc!! Every little bit adds to the experience

my son and wife got an upgrade on the plane they flew to Dubai and ended up in first class they were treated like royalty and also in the hotel then they flew to the maldives. They flew with Emirates Airlines and said it was fantastic they asked in the airport x
CommentAuthorbridalmiss
You don't need to be pushy about it, just mention it etc. We got complimentary champagne on the flight and at the resort we had a decorated bed, a 'Happy Honeymoon' card from the resort and a complimentary sparkling bottle of wine with any meal that week (which was nice as our all inclusive included everything but sparkling!)

No harm in trying! we'd shout it from the rooftops if we could... haha nah, ill be telling anyone and everyone who will listen... who knows what may get thrown in! In a subtle and delicate manner though haha xx

We booked ours through a travel agents and as long as it is within 3 months of the wedding and we take our marriage certificate to prove this then it is classed as a honeymoon so will get our room upgraded, champagne, chocolates, etc so if your on honeymoon then why not?! The travel agents emailed the hotel to tell them it was a honeymoon and i will also email the hotel directly before we to remind them as i definitly want a room upgrade xxx

telling them at the airport won`t get you an up grade unless they have seats to spare ..unfortunately now when they can get money from people paying to upgrade they wont lose money .
deff worth saying to the hotel though you can get stuff ...and anything is better than nothing
my mum told me to do this, my mum and dad go away every year sometimes more than once to the same hotel, she always emails them and says how great she enjoyed last year and that its her anniversary and asks outright if it would be possible to be moved to an upgraded room! thing is it always works haha! she tells me that if you dont ask you dont get! Go for it :D x

My sister told her hotel got a free room upgrade and champagne in the room so worth a try

I would. A girl at work went on her honeymoon to america. Because she was travelling in her maiden name when they got booked in they were at opposite ends of the plane. My friend didn't want to cause a fuss so sat down but was a little upset. While she sorting herself out her new hubby went up to the desk to have a word. Staff asked for their boarding cards. plane began to board and they thought they'b been booted off the flight for complaining. Instead they were announced ont the plane and the pilot showed them to their seats - upgraded to first class for both the outbound and inbound journey! I'm never that lucky lol
CommentAuthormym72
We mentioned it to the travel agent when we booked, mainly because we wanted a sea view balcony and a room on a higher floor so we got somewhere fairly quiet. When we arrived at the hotel, and just after checking in, we got a knock on our door and were greeted with champagne.
We didn't mention it at the airport though, but we'd already picked and booked our seats and were happy with them anyway.
CommentAuthorTori
Wow that is impressive
CommentAuthorLittle Kettle
ClareE - that is unheard of! It's very very rare that you get bumped up a class on airlines nowadays (but it used to happen a fair bit). Planes are usually booked to capacity, so there's just no wiggle room. I'd say that with the hotels etc., it's definitely worth mentioning it. When we arrived at the Four Seasons (having just dropped off the Harley, so we were looking a little worse for wear!) they welcomed us and said they had a note from our travel agent that we were on our honeymoon. They upgraded us there and then. We also got complimentary strawberries:

Our honeymoon hotel has a special package, you just let them know in advance and show the certificate I think. Will mention it for flights too, I might call the airline in advance to get a note put on file, that way noone sees you ask!
CommentAuthorbarbie86
I always email hotels in advance with room requests, and if we're celebrating anything, I'll certainly slip it in. I almost always get the room I want, and we've had extras a few times eg cake for my dad's birthday, OH and I have had a bottle of rum and bottles of sparkling wine in the room, etc. Some hotels offer deals for honeymooners: several we're looking at in Mexico give you a free room upgrade to the next category up, and a bottle of wine/champagne and fruit basket in the room on arrival. If you do mention it's your honeymoon, typically this is the type of thing you might get.
I always book the room category I want though, as typically upgrades are subject to availability, and because some hotels are very popular with honeymooners, at certain times of year they just don't have upgrades available.
As far as flights go, as Little kettle said getting a flight upgrade is extremely rare now, as flights are very busy.

This is pretty naughty of me and my partner but we quite frequently blag free things at hotels by saying it's our honeymoon... My favourite was when they carved a pineapple into the shape of a swan in Malaysia and presented it to us at dinner :-s

I'm going to try this when we get round to booking ours.

Absolutely hun! I'm a wedding/honeymoon specialising travel agent and I always without fail, put the request on at time of booking and then diarise to email the hotel manager 2 weeks before arriving. It always works. If you need any honeymoon inspiration, give me a shout!
