this is something we may look into if our preferred venues turn out to be too expensive, theres also rugby clubs/pubs with large function rooms off them, they all tend to be good price wise.
certainly alot cheaper than those advertised as wedding venues!

We've been looking for somewhere to have an evening reception when we get back from honeymoon - and would definitely consider a working mens club. My parents' local is the club - and my dad is on the committee of theirs - and the room that they hire out there is gorgeous (and big). Unfortunately for us the local club only hires out on a Friday night and we ideally want a Saturday or we'd be doing that.

Im having mine in a social club - the function room is huge and hsa everything we need and its cheap and cheerful... all you have to do is get some tablecloths (mine are disposable) and some helium balloons to put around the room. :) x

I think its a great way to save money, reasonably priced drinks, a room you can decorate well and you can save money on the catering. Win win really esp for an evening reception

We looked into this but the only decent looking one we could find was in the city centre and was really low on parking spaces. I've been to many receptions at WM clubs and had a great time, and like other people have said, cheap beer :D

I looked into a local social club in case we didn't like the place we were looking last weekend and they had a ballroom to hire out for just £80 for the whole day and night. Gorgeous space, solid wood dance floor and ideal for live music because there's a stage. I would never rule out a social or working man's club because ultimately it's about what you can do with a space to make it special, and I've proof that nice hotels are not always better - one that we looked at was so poorly set out that the room was practically split in two and half our guests wouldn't have been able to see each other. Besides, you could also find with a club that they are more amenable as far as late licenses and noise are concerned, because they don't have the possibility of waking other hotel guests :P

We are having a sports and social club which has a village hall on the back of it. I think why the hell not. Might not look much from the outside but once your inside and every where is decorated, you could be anywhere!

I agree its the inside that counts and cheep beer is always a bonus. Some clubs are tired and run down while others are stunning so it is well worth having a look around the different ones to find what you want. If they do the catering and cleaning up at the end then that is even better as the last thing you need to be worrying about is walking around with a black bag in your wedding dress. Why pay through the roof for a room? A room is a room and its what and who you put in it that makes it a good party. It would give you more money to then spend on the food and bits and fancy things you want.

Working mens clubs are usually pretty honest and down to earth people. They are not in the wedding market to rip people off. Any money they get from functions are extras to go back into the club funds. Even if they raised the prices a little they would be no where near what you would pay in a hotel bar.

We had our engagement party at a club, was great value and a lovely room, just £50 for hire and £21 for a bar extention until midnight. and of course everyone commented on how cheap the drinks were, so the guests were happy :)

That sounds good! We found a bar that we loved n the guy told us £140. Went to go n c it agen n the boss said the guy shouldn't av told us that cuz it's meant to be £300. They had a little argument in their own language. I wouldn't av minded paying the £300 straight off but it was their mistake not mine. I'm keeping it as a back up but will keep looking out of principle. Don't want em taking my money then hiking up the prices on the bar. Always thought of social clubs as places were smelly old men hang out but after what some of you ladies have said I can put it on my list of things to investigate.
