    Hiya everyone,

Was wondering if anyone works somewhere that they cant wear rings.

I work in a hospital and am not aloud to wear my engagement ring. Booohooo.
I got engaged in April 2010. Initially my engagement ring was hardly ever on my finger so it was kinda like it wasnt my ring.

Then i took ill and have had 6 months off work. So my ring was never off my finger, I have the dent to prove it.

I went back to work on monday after 6mnths and I cant stand not wearing my engagement ring. I feel abit sad about it. boohoo.

Its also effected the choice of wedding band. I couldnt have the one i wanted coz it had diamonds in it. Got a plain band now. Its truely rubbish and i feel sad. xx

Yeh my engagement ring is too raised to wear for work. Plus i dont think i would want to wear it! hahaha.I know what i do with my hands.lol.

Becky-mine has an indentation on my finger too-so i just keep looking at that.

H2B has said that i might get an enternity ring of the diamond wedding band i want. Yes i still wont be able to wear it for work but least i would have the band on my dreams for special occasions.

I feel confident and happy with my engagement ring on. Even tho had it since april, i still cant stop looking at it. I love it so much.

The no ring thing only came in at my hospital last year. But we have a very strick infection control person who will read you the riot act if you wear it! never mind.xx

I used to be in the same position hun. I worked in a hospital kitchen so i had to take my ring off. I sometimes forgot to put it back on after work so it was like i wasnt engaged. Left that job to go part time after i had my baby so it doesnt effect me now. I was also considering getting a "work ring" but didnt need to in the end.

Well, I leave mine at home as i would be gutted if it went walkies out of the changing room at work. I remember to put it on coz i get changed when i get home and its part of my getting dressed routine. Its remembering to take it off thats the worry-lol.

I just miss it- maybe its coz i have been poorly and i am only just going back to work. think it is a comfort blanket.i know i am a sop.

I did think about wearing it on a necklace-But i have been pull around the neck by a patient, more than once- so if they pulled it off and it fell i would be gutted.

    So its safer-kinda at home.x

my engagement ring didn't have stones for that very reason! we've never been allowed wear stoned rings, not allowed wear chains/necklaces either. some of it is to do with infection control, some to do with our safety(chain/necklace being pulled by patients)

in the hospitals i have placement in you can wear one plain wedding band with no diamonds - so i usually just wear my ring on a chain that H2B bought me especially the first christmas after we got engaged. I only take it off completely if im scrubbing into theatre.........could you not wear it around your neck when your at work??? xx

The reason you cannot wear stoned rings when working in contact with patients is down to infection control and also the fact that you could very easily hirt a patient if you catch them with your ring, especially if they are elderly as they tend to have thinner skin than most....then they bleed into your ring, skin gets in it, germs can hide under the settings etc.....you see where im going with this?
If you have to wear gloves because you may be barrier bursing there is a risk your ring may tear the glove......

You CAN wear a plain wedding band, but anything other than this is a tad irresponsible if you are working with folk who are seriously ill or susceptible to infection.

Im a student nurse and I am not suppose to wear my ring. To be honest the things I do when Im on placement, in the hospital, I dont want to wear my ring. God knows what it would get stuck in it (germs and MRSA). I tend to take it off as I dont want to spoil it.

The ward I am on now there is no physically tuching patients, Its an elective surgical ward so there all in good health and leave the same day they come in. I have wore my ring on there but hid it from sister.

Yes its in our infection control policy not to wear anything with diamonds. So yes you could be disaplined and eventually sacked.

But I would be mortified if i caught a patients skin or found out that my ring had been the cause of a perosn getting MRSA.

So i know the reasons are totally valid for not wearing a ring- but i still miss it!
But only 7 months till i get a wedding band. Will feel better then once i have a ring on. teehee.xx

Role on getting my wedding band. I have gone for a plain plattinum band. Its a comfort fit, so is slighety different to the regular shaped bands. My engagement rind is the same shape so they look lovely together but equally as good apart.

Mara- I am sorry to hear you cant wear it at all. I cant image how that feels. I hope you have found a way of keeping it close to you. In a pouch or some kinda accessory.

I think to be honest i posted this coz i was having a hard time at work. My H2B is my support, my strength, my pilar. Wearing my engagement ring helps me to feel his strength running through me. Yes I sound stupid but I was going for tests and stuff, he couldnt be with me but coz i had my ring and knew i was loved and its a reminder that he is with me all the time. I sound stupid saying that, but i dont have much support from others. He is my rock! And the rock on my finger is that meaning! x

I work with babies and pre-school children so I don't wear mine incase I catch them with it. But to be honest in the first hour alone of the day I have usually been digging in the mud, painted a masterpiece, changed a nappy or two, put hand gel and chemicals on my hands about a hundred times so I wouldn't want to ruin it xx

Hi everyone. I'm sorry if this sounds like an advert but I wanted to let you know there is a way to have a sparkly ring without having diamonds.
We sell 1000's of rings every year and many of them go to hospital and/or food workers. Having diamonds or other stones in a ring is allowed by some health organisations but not others. To get around this Smooch has developed a range of designs that look like they have diamonds in them by cleverly engraving the rings using sophisticated lasers. So you can have some sparkle even without stones.

MARA - HAve you tried Palladium/ Its hypoallergenic and many people who can't wear gold or platinum find that Palladium doesn't cause a problem.

I cannot wear my ring either because I too work for the NHS screening newborn babies for hearing defects, I am quite happy to take it off though as I quite often see babies on our neonatal unit with infections and see the struggle they have and would not want to risk passing infection on to a baby from under my ring xxx

Its too late for me as I have already purchased my engagement and wedding bands. BUT I will defo keep it in mind for an eternity ring! Thanks Smooch! xx
