    Hi,

My fiance and I have decided to get married abroad but we cant afford to pay for our guests.

We have decided to put something in the invitation to make it clear that they will have to pay for themselves but that we would really like them to attend if they can afford it. (we are giving them 2 years notice to save etc).

Does anyone have any ideas how we can word this without sounding rude?

    Thanks

Ive just told people straight, were r u getting married? Im getting married in Majorca nowhere special but holds very special memories for me and H2B and we regularly travel there on our holidays.

Have u got a wedding planner? Im being very brave and doing it myself.

But we've told me that unfortunately we havent got the money to pay for everyone, you have everything else to pay for! We are going for a month so we have our own accomodation and spending money to pay for. We have been priced £1200-£1500 for our reception, that was the biggest cost i think! ive bought my dress for £225, church is £300 then we have to pay an extra £200 for the priest.

Im just trying to get things in perspective and cut out things we dont really need. I am having artificial flowers, u? Ive seen sum fab 1s for £60 which i think it a bargain and they are artificial so i can use them for wedding and also for the party wen we get home xx

We're getting married in Vegas as simply said something along the lines of:
'we getting married in Las Vegas. We would love it if you're able to make it out, but if you're not then please join us for our celebrations back home'.
No-one has ever assumed that we'd be paying for them - not even my poor pensioner mum! Hx

I sent out invites to the people that I wanted to be there. Just put on them where we are staying and the date and then put we would love you to join us if you can. Also put more details to follow. Everyone has taken it that they are paying to get there which is good. Some people said straight awayy that they could not come due to money which I understand.

    Hope that helps

p.s doing everything my self as I dont even think that they know the meaning of a wedding planner ha ha xx

    Ah thanks guys,

We are getting married in Zante. We have booked through a wedding planner but cant actually confirm holiday dates yet so am a bit worried :(

I thought that people wouldnt assume but my h2b said that maybe they would and it could get embarrasing, mind you he wanted to put a rhyme on the invite saying:

We invite u to join us on our special day
    Unfortunately we cannot pay
    or something along those lines!!!!!!!

I havent really thought about flowers although we do like sunflowers and we do want lanterns to light on the beach but artifical sounds good and great for cost saving - when we were looking for a wedding in the uk we looked at sara richards, she was very reasonably priced

    xx

I sent out my invites nearly a year before. You could always send out save the dat invites with a difference being that you just say we are getting married in Zante in 2012 would love it if you could join us. more details will follow as soon as we have finalised the date.

people might then ask you how much it would cost to get there and were is the best place to stay, this happened to me and I have told everyone not to book just yet until we have and they have been fine with this

    xx

We didn't/haven't sent invites. We texted all our family & friends though we sort of knew who was coming anyway. So far another 4 people have booked and another 11 are still to book. We then plan (once hotel have confirmed date and time) give all those people invites as memrebilia (sp) more than anything as they have all asked for 1 lol.
We will then arrange invites to send to all those we are inviting to the return reception closer to the date.

I received an invite once from friends who were getting married abroad and they actually put an information sheet in detailing the flight details and hotels, prices etc. You can't make it any clearer than that!
