They do it just so you buy from them. They want the same amount of profit no matter what you do. Its why they put silly charges on things like cake cutting if you don't have dessert yet its free if you have it. WTF?

I come from a wine region and in France it's tradition to provide wine to last for all receptions, we don't do cash bar, unfortunately, I can't afford that here, so we've asked about corkage as my family and friends would like to bring wine from our region, which you can't find in the UK, but I don't know yet and will only in January how much is corkage :)

I have to admit we are paying £25 per child and that is for a soft drink on arrival and with dinner, tomato soup, half the main course or chicken nuggets and chips with ice cream. Its crazy what they can charge.

god were defo lucky with our venue and prices x
our starter's is £281.00 based on 150ppl (two choice's to pick from £1.75 and £2.00)
    main course is £1200.00 based on 150ppl (two choice's £7.50 and £8.50)
dessert is £600 based on 150 ppl (two choice's £2.00 each)
    total £2081

kids are half the price of adults
so starters are either 87p lol or £1
    mains £3.75 or £4.25
    and dessert £1.

and im buy own alcohol to serve which they will have an entrance drink and a drink with there meal after that they buy there own x

night buffet no drinks been served buy there own and buffet for night is £1012.50. based on 150 ppl

so i know it wont be costin us any more than £3093.50 it will prob cost us less cause av done it all on adults for now and then theres the ppl that will be declining so more to come off then x

    feel lucky now x

We worked out that we could buy a better wine from a supermarket, pay the corckage and it still worked out cheaper than buying the hotels cheapest wine. Would the hotel not just let you put bottles on your tables? We are going to ask our if we can. x

Im not paying corkage fee, as my venue Fcuked up and put my email address on there website by mistake..... and i had lots of strange emails from people.

Also they have reduced down everything by half price... ( i have it in writing) for compensation.

    Im having:

Pate or Tom Soup for starter

Roast Turkey, with all trimmings for main

Eton Mess or cheese cake for pudding

    Coffee n mints

all for £650 and thats for 57 people.

Also bringing in 30 bottle of wine, 20 bottles of sparling wine (for speeches) with no corkage fee!

    :)

I think this is why we decided to do our own reception in our garden, as I would feel sick spending £20 or thereabouts for a kids meal and have them not finish it, I would be walking around making them eat it, lol. We are spending about £200 on food for a lovely afternoon tea party like spread, and although buying some wine, pink lemonade and Pimms, we have also told our guests that they can bring their own bottle if they have a favourite and they are happy with that. A very laid back affair but I know that me and h2b will enjoy the day so much more knowing we didn't break the bank. Nothing wrong in having it at a venue of course, but with my temperament it would be a disaster, lol. It really really gets me wound up that as soon as you say wedding to any business they charge you double, disgusting! Grrrrrr. x

near enough ALL food establisments make more money on drinks then they do food.

Food doesnt make a massive profit the way drink does (have been in catering for 10 years)

its a rip hun.... our venues wine is 15 per bottle for the cheapest. asked if we could pay corkage and conveniently thats 15 a bottle.... all because they are losing money on the drink. We settled for their package in the end.

cant wait to be Mrs Evans less than 3 weeks woooo
    start weight 10st 1.5 lbs
    weight now 8st 4.5 lbs

our budget for 75ppl day and 90 night including linen, drinks during day and DJ is £3500, and we're under it and have complimentary bedroom. its a family run hotel so lovely and easy and we'll decide on menu in January and can choose whatever not necessarily from a "wedding menu"

my corkage is £10 a bottle but cos h2b works in a wine bottling plant can get wine for £2 a bottle and its not the cheap stuff, and we will still save £4 a bottle by paying the corkage instead of the hotels own wine, that and we have family coming from France so allot cheaper and i don't even drink wine lol the things you do for quests, even asked about wine boxes that you could empty into jugs for the table they have on average 3 bottles per bag so if they charge corkage on a bag wine the same as the bottle your in a win win position.

corkage for our venue is £10 a bottle. Its because they buy their wine in bulk really cheap and then make you buy it for £15+ a bottle. If you bring your in own in they wouldnt make any money so they charge a ridiculous amount for corkage instead! h2b's dad is going to call our venue and try and haggle them down lol x

Don't forget they will also chill and serve your wine so you need to pay for that I suppose. Our caterer isn't charging us any corkage but we were fully expecting to. We said so how much is corkage cos every other caterer we'd spoked to was charging a fortune and he was like 'Oh, I didn't think if that. Maybe I should start charging!' As long as it's after us then that's fine.
