Title says it all really. Do they go straight to their seats? Do they sit in the front row? Is standing either side of the bride and groom an american thing?
Was discussing this with my BM today and neither of us have any idea!

Hmmm not sure, last time i was a BM i sat on the front row though, this will all be resolved if you are having a rehersal x

OK I can tell from personal experience that in America the bridesmaids definitely stand, the idea is that they are there to support you so they stand up with you. Minimally the MOH stands with you and holds the bouquet and the grooms ring during the vow ceremony. I think whether the others stand or not is up to you. If not they have seats in the front so they can easily take part in the recessional. As Lowe says this is the kind of thing that gets sorted at the rehearsal.
I like when everyone stands, but I'm American so I'm biased.
The registrar said they should have seats at the front of the aisle so they walk down, go to the left and stand and wait for you to come in. Once youre down the aisle they should sort your dress if need be then when the registrar asks everyone to sit they take their seats with the other guests in the front row. x

My bridesmaids walked in ahead of me, then they went to the left and to the right where there were seats saved for them at the front. Everyone sat during the service apart from me and hubby.......

I think its up to you, I dont think anything is right or wrong its like lots of things wedding related, its ur day and you do as you like lol!!
I think I will have mine seated and just me & H2B stand. I will probably have the younger ones walk in before me and straight to seats then me then older BM who willt ehn sort my dress, flowers etc and then go to seats x

I think mine will be seated off to one side as its quite a small venue and will be a bit cramped if everyone is stood up top.
Another thing to consider is to make sure that if they are standing, they aren't obscuring throu guests view of you - after all, that's what they turned up to see! Xx

I'm having 2 of my BM walk down the aisle first then my MOH and other BM will come in behind to sort of my dress - as I have to turn when I come down the aisle as the door is at the side of the church. Then I think they all sit on the front row, like the groomsmen on opposit side :-) x

We do get a rehearsal so I guess I'll find out what's recommended then. Though I'm only having one BM and she's coming in behind me to keep my dress/veil straight and tidy so I guess once we're at the end she can take my bouquet and go and sit down. Which is what I thought we'd do but wanted to be sure there wasn't a way it's usually done!
