Our wedding is still not for 11 months (324 days to be exact) and i'm getting far too excited, and what to do everything now!! I've already informed most people about the date of the day, so at least most people know to keep that day free. But I just want to start inviting everyone already! I know its still too soon to send them, but guide line advice needed, how soon before before the wedding should I start sending them?

Im not getting married for 18 months, but im sending save the date cards out this xmas so they have 16/17 months notice of the date. My actual date is 18th may 2013 im sending my invites out next november and then chasing them up in the february, hope that helps. x

I was thinking of sending them in March time, so I guess thats a similar time span.... its about 6 months before. Thanks, thats helps, I don't feel like i'll be sending them too soon now. x

My STDs went out about a year before, invites I'm sending out 6 months before with an RSVP 3 months before - but if you have all the details already like venue, costs etc then why not invite sooner so when you have confirmed RSVPs then you can budget accordingly etc? I wanted to leave it to a few months before as a lot of my family are overseas so need to arrange leave/travel arrangements etc.

OOh just noticed it says I'm getting married in 6 months which is wrong - getting married June 3rd, sending invites out around Christmas and RSVP 31st March if that helps x

Rule of thumb is generally 6 weeks before the wedding... unless you are inviting people who need to plan their travel well in advance!

Not to sound nasty or anything, but i think if I received an invitation months and months in advance I'd be more likely to forget about it, then forget about a RSVP! I think there'll be a lot of chasing up to do...

We sent our invites about 5 months before with RSVP date of six weeks after. Then we were still able to send more invites at 3 months before without looking like they'd not been on the "A" list.

some of my save the dates have already gone out, but I do plan on sending the invitations out fairly early, maybe november next year and then ask for rsvp by the end of feb at the latest, which gives me 4 months to chase people up in case they don't reply when we ask them to

Thanks everyone thats a great help :) As out wedding is only a small number, we're not sending out save the date cards I've just told all those who are invited to keep that date free. But i'm thinking i'll go for 6 months in advance with `RSVPs within 6 weeks after. So I can invite extra people if there are spaces to fill, without them feeling like the second choice option :)

Thanks so much for the advice everyone, was a really great help xxx

Have just started printing my save the date cards to put in with Christmas cards so we can save money on the postage. MIL2B suggested sending invites after Christmas next year so people will have a calendar to write the date on! We have quite a lot of guests coming from overseas (H2B's cousin told us he would need at least a years notice of a wedding) so invitations need to be sent out quite early. Think 5 months before with RSVP of 6 weeks will be fine for chasing up and finalising numbers. x

Cool - to save on postage we emailed our save the dates out, and we're handing out the invites that we can with Christmas cards to save on postage, then only posting the ones for people we don't physically see - like overseas relatives. We've also set up a website with hotels, restaurant addresses etc and have asked for all RSVPs by email so we didn't have to put SAE's in with the invites!

Anni your wedding's the same date as mine :)

My SIL suggested to send ours out at Christmas but then when I saw her again she said to send them out AFTER Christmas as people are so busy then and they might get put to one side and forgotten about/lost

So I am sending ours out just after the new year I think, give people something to look forward to :) x
