We spoke to our priest today and he wants to see us a bit more, as my partner wants to get baptised first.
We really want to get married on the 8th August 2015 though, how long was it until your wedding when you booked the date at the Church? If you had a specific date in mind did you have any problems with that date?
CommentAuthorHelainaH
We booked the church as soon as we had booked the venue. Then we arranged a visit with the vicar, to go through the admin stuff.
CommentAuthorDonnaH39
So how far in advance of the wedding was that?
CommentAuthorMrsRobson2Be
I'm getting married on the 8/8/15 too :) We haven't booked the church yet as my OH has been working every day at the moment, hopefully I'll be able to get an appointment for next weekend, OH will have to take the day off.
CommentAuthorDonnaH39
See I don't think it will be in the next couple of weeks, I'm just keeping fingers crossed that Church won't be as busy as venue's so won't get booked up, also they can do more then one ceremony in a day. If I can't have my Church I know he can give permission for me to marry in a different one, so hopefully we can still have the Church wedding, I'm just not going to be able to relax until we do have the date confirmed. I just hope its sooner rather then later otherwise I'm going to be constantly on edge, I'm starting to feel really sick about it :(
We are getting married in 11 weeks and we booked the church last March. Hope that helps xx
CommentAuthorMarrying.Ryan
We are getting married this August and we are going to book the church on Thursday. They still have 3 times available on our day, too. I think it depends what day of the week you're getting married. Saturday is obviously the most popular day, so I would book as soon as you can, really. We are getting married on a Friday and they still have plenty of availability.

I booked my church April 2012 for my wedding on 30th August 2014! So nearly 2 and a half years before! It is my parish and childhood church (I was christened there) so it was sooooo important to me that we get married there! It was the very first thing we booked, and then we booked our reception venue the week after. I was so worried as my h2b is Greek Orthodox and i thought they may not marry us as he was a different religion but he said that as they are both trinity Christian religions (believe in the father, the son and the Holy Spirit) he was more than happy to marry us there :) xxx

15 months before the wedding. It was the first thing we booked. It is a special church because my parents were married there, my sister and I were baptised there and also where I had my first holy communion. Saturdays will always be the most popular dates, we got the last available Saturday in May.

We booked our church about a year and a half before the wedding, as soon as we booked our venue really. You could ask the priest if he could pencil you in for now, and then go more often before the date.
CommentAuthorElinor Claire
We booked ours in February last year for a wedding in August this year, but someone else booked at the same time for just a couple of months later. There was no real need to book that early, it was just good to have it done. It really depends on how busy your particular church gets with weddings. Ours doesn't get that many.
30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.

We got engaged in July and booked the church straight away for April 2015, the vicar said it was his first wedding to be booked for that year. Our church is in a small village, so not that busy with weddings x
CommentAuthorMrsManiatt

Looks like we'll be looking at another Church as he didn't seem very helpful and I need to know we have it booked otherwise I'm going to go mad. I just had a moment where I cried to my fiancé because he spoke to another Church and didn't ask about the date (he booked an appointment to see them on the 1st of Feb)

We're going to visit the Church warden on Sat the 1st of Feb, hoping we can at least be pencilled in for our date then.
Does anyone know if with Church of England weddings you can get booked in that easily? We both live in the right area for that Church
CommentAuthorLauraF89
We have booked for Church of England and my OH's mum lives in the parish, we don't! OH was christened there and his parents married there too but that didn't matter because as soon as we said his mum lived in the parish she was like "oh good, that's great" so i guess you don't need much to qualify and they are a lot less strict than catholic churches xxx

Do you think he'll pencil us in as soon as he see's us then
We've also contacted another Church just in case and he seemed really friendly, said as long as we go for 6 months to his Church we can get married there. I'd prefer our Church though, as although its half an hour away from our venue (I'm looking forward to that half an hour with my new husband lol) it's our local Church.
CommentAuthorLauraF89
If you have a connection in the parish where the church is then you should get penciled in pretty easy but if not then you may have to attend some services. We had a meeting with the vicar, i was a fraction impatient and emailed her directly and she was the one who booked us in so the warden may meet with you to discuss stuff and then book you to see the vicar but i dont know. There's loads of info on the church of england website so you should go give that a read!

Big wedding 18/06/2016

I think it's the warden booking it, as we don't have a vicar at the moment (visiting vicar's have to do the services) so the warden has to arrange it all. I'm guessing that if we get our date booked in and then the Church get a permanent vicar our wedding is still booked in :/
CommentAuthorLauraF89
Ahh that is probably the case! Maybe make a little list of important questions to ask the warden just to be on the safe side! xxx

How did you get on with your appointment?
Can't wait for next weekend and ours
CommentAuthorJoey35
We booked ours 16 months before. Booked it in May 2013 for September 2014 wedding. It's a really popular church often booked over 2 years in advance, so we were lucky no one else had booked our date :-)
CommentAuthorMrsRobson2Be
I need to ring the church & make an appointment but just wondering how do I address the priest? He is called reverend Thomas, so do I address him as that or just reverend/Thomas? That's probably a really stupid question lol
CommentAuthorDonnaH39
I always talk to priests as father.... but we're going Church of England, luckily we're meeting the Church Warden so he is just Mr ....... but what do you call a vicar... are they father's as well?
I think if he's called reverend Thomas, then Reverend when talking to him would be okay?
CommentAuthorLauraF89
Yes, unless he says to call him by hus first name.
When asking questions I asked about dates and if anyone else had booked the same one and if not if anyone does book the same day who gets the choice of time. When do you arrange what you want in the service, when do you pay etc. Is there anything you need to do yourself. When is the permanent vicar going to come.
Just ask whatever pops into your head, I love asking questions so I tend to say what pops into my mind. No question is a silly one, if you don't know the answer to something you should always ask :-)

We are planning on getting married on 11th July 2015, and we met with our local vicar for the first time today. He said that we have come in very early, but we explained that we have found the reception venue and they are holding the date for a couple of weeks whilst we try to make sure we can arrange the ceremony and he seemed happy enough to start proceedings. First meeting went well, so I *think* we are set to go for that day, but that will all be confirmed at another meeting next week when we take our documents in, I think. I'd say give the reverend at the church you are interested in a ring and ask them, if you already have a date in mind, they will tell you when they usually start taking bookings from as I think each one may work slightly differently.
CommentAuthorChelseyfj
We booked ours when we got engaged, march 2012 for June 2014, we filled in the paperwork the reverend sent by email, they confirmed date etc, and we haven't heard anything since? They haven't asked anything of us and I am a tad worried about it!
CommentAuthorCharlotteE98
We're getting married in April next year and booked our church last March. We don't live in the Parish but my OH was christened there and is Uncle is Treasurer so we managed to get it booked quite easily. We're going to a Marriage Preparation Day in a couple of weeks time and, even though it hasn't been mentioned yet, we're expecting to need to attend some services.
The date has been confirmed but we haven't paid any money yet. It will be one of the questions on my list when we go to the Marriage Preparation Day!
CommentAuthorDonnaH39
Thanks everyone, well our meeting was a couple of weeks ago and it all went fine and we're booked in for the date we wanted, we were the first wedding for that date as well so we got first pick of ceremony time too.
Chelseyfj I'd contact them if I were you, did they not ask for ID when you filled in all the paperwork?
CommentAuthorChelseyfj
Thanks donna no they just us to fill in a form they sent out! Never mentioned any id

We finally booked ours a few weeks ago, we had already booked our reception venue which the priest told us off for!! The church had another earlier booking for our date (they had booked a few weeks before us) they chose the 2pm slot, luckily we wanted a later wedding so booked 4pm.
Chelseyfj If I was you I would be on the phone first thing in the morning, you should have heard something by now.
