I'm having platinum; my new engagement ring is also platinum.
My current engagement ring is white gold, and we decided to have it remade due to the replating issue. Very happy with our choice of platinum.
I'm also having a plain 2mm wedding band which will be in palladium, which is another metal you might want to include :-)

Platinum to go next to my platinum engagement ring! :) shouldn't really put different metals next to each other!
And we lived happily ever after!

White gold. E-ring is white gold with platinum setting
You ideally need it to be the same as your engagement ring otherwise they will wear each other out quicker. In terms of the strongest metals then platinum is definitely best but palladium is very similar and a lot cheaper :) that's what h2b has gone for x

Well.... I am a budget bride and my OH is MAKING our rings... He says he is making them out of Alluminum as it is cheaper (Less than £5 for both our rings) and easier to manipulate... I think he is getting them dipped in silver though...

We are having titanium rings.

Me and OH are both having palladium. Very strong but cheaper than platinum which meant we could both have our rings customised.
My engagement ring is white gold but as i can only wear one ring for work i dont suppose it matters that they dont match x
CommentAuthorMrsMcK2B
Can you wear palladium & white gold together? Just wondering as I'm trying to save as much as I can

mine will be palladium to match my engagement ring i would of liked platinum but considering my palladium ring was £2500 platinum would have been ridiculously expensive, i really think its down to your personal preference. x

we have got white gold band with a yellow gold square with diamond inset to the yellow gold square. theres a pic on my wedding blog thread on here.
My engagement ring is yellow gold, but doesnt fit on my ring finger due to having put on weight having had kids, so will not be worn together. H2B's engagement ring in tungsten carbide, which is another metal to go on the poll. H2B designed our rings. I have been trying to convince hm when we are married he needs to wear his engagement ring on his right hand rather than his left due to the 2 metals, but we shall see.
Find out who you are & do it on purpose!

I am having white gold. Currently my Ering is off being dipped :(
We have got a deal with our Jewellery designer that we wont have to pay for our rings to be dipped as they will do it for free :) happy days as its just cost me £74 quid to get it done :(
What metal is your Ering?

I worked for a jewellers for years and have many qualifications for it. I was taught the following:
You should always have the same material for any rings that you will wear together as the weaker one will be worn away over time (MOHs scale)
However If they don't fit flush together, this could also cause uneven wear.
9ct gold is HARDER than 18ct or 24ct gold as gold is a soft metal which is alloyed with other metals to use it for jewelery.
White gold is not a new gold! it is yellow gold alloyed with Zinc and Aluminium and silver to bleach the gold but it will always have a yellowish colour. It is then Rhodium plated to give it that white look, this will need replacing. If you have the choice get 9ct white gold as it is A: cheaper B: harder and C: coated in the same rhodium so looks the same!
Palladium is a relatively new thing, its been around for years, but hasnt been used for jewellery much before the last decade. It is very similar to platinum in so far as it is in the same metal family, has a similar hardness on the MOHs scale of hardness and is that colour all the way through like platinum AND is apparently as rare as platinum. which leads me to the question... why is it so cheap??? I like palladium and i think i will go for it to go against my platinum E ring, but i have to think, why are there not high street jewellers making E rings out of paladium, is it something to do with making claws out of it? It has been used for years but there is no surviving jewellery made out of it why? Someone said to me that it can become brittle over time which explains this but this is an opinion that hasnt been substantiated by any research i've found. so Palladium may be a great investment, or you may need to replace it a few decades down the line.
Also make sure you don't have titanium if you have a nickle allergy as alot of titanium is alloyed with it and can react with you.
To get a white gold look, you can always have silver rings rhodium plated which is also a lot cheaper.
