A friend of ours is going to film our wedding for us. We are having him at our wedding as a guest and don't want him to be tied up videoing all day.

Can anyone give me some ideas as to what you should/could/would have video'd.

Would a message video be a good idea too - so asking our guests how they know us and if they want to give us a message etc.

    Thanks!

what my uncle did (well mixture of him and my mum) was record the ceremony and the speeches, then the rest of the time the camera was just set up on a tri-pod and left to its on devices.

We went to a wedding recently and one of the Ushers was also camera man, he filmed the ceremony whilst sitting up front with the best men etc then was on our table for the wedding breakfast and only got up to film them coming in and the speeches. Not sure whether he did anything else!
I am unsure whether to get a guest to film or a professional - obv a friend will be cheaper but like you, you don't want them tied up all day with the camera!

I've seen my cousin's wedding video that her friend did for her, was only 15 minutes long and had 3 or 4 of 'their' songs playing and it just showed highlights of the ceremony (was a jewish one so rather long) inc the very end where the bride shook the marriage certificate in the air as if to say mine now b****!!! then it panned to the evening ceremony where at this point had a few guests wishing their congrats, had snippets of the speeches from the best man, the groom, father of the bride etc, then back to few guests, then a load of israeli dancing (traditional at jewish weddings) then their first dance, then a few more guest messages & panned out, as faded away leaving them in their first dance couple cuddle type thing!

Was quite nice, it wasn't too long and literally had the best bits! xx

we would have loved to have the ceremony filmed but it would mean not only paying the person to video but we would have to pay the organist because we would be filming his music. if it was me i would probably get him to film the ceremony, the speeches, the cutting of the cake and the first dance? if thats something you would want him to do he could maybe do that in the gap between ending of wedding breakfast and the evening guest arriving. if you dont want his day to be taken up buy videoing then i would probbaly just leave it at the main parts during the day x

ps both my grandparents and my mum and dad had videos at there wedding the only bit that was filmed at each was the arrival at church of the bride, her getting out the car and going in to church and then the happy couple comming out of church, having confetti thrown over them and them then driving off in the car x

I was never keen on the idea of a video person running around so not bothering but going to get my nephew or step dad to video our ceremony and the speeches so we can re-watch it when we are ready.... everything else will be captured on photo i hope xxx

If you want a video, why don't you try gumtr**? That's where I found mine! Really cheap. Most people are professional just looking to get into wedding business so trying to build up custom. Having your friend doing it though sounds ideal. You will know yourself what bits of your day you want recorded, the rest of the time he can relax.
