I am trying to find a song for our first dance. I don't want to go down the typical overdone love song route. I want something that still has the sentiment but hasn't been done to death. Maybe an unusual cover version, we considered having Bruno mars marry you and it is still a contender but I’m not sure it has the right sentiment. Please any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

yeah I was liking the song that sophie sung as I had found an obscure cover version on you tube then she sang it last night and now its gonna be totally overplayed and will look like thats why we picked it. I've left the first dance to h2b and he came to me tonight with The Calling - Wherever you will go. I really like the song and at first I was impressed. I've just looked at the lyrics and it's all about me finding love after he's gone. Not happy with that especially with him being a Soldier and likely off to the bad place before and not long after we are wed.

i know its a bit old but we are having, truly, madly, deeply by savage garden. I really dont think the lyrics matter! if you love the song you should do it! if you had to find the one song with lyrics perfectly to match your wedding it would be impossible! and once 'that song' has been suggested nothing will match up xx

We're having the acoustic version of Bon Jovi - Always as when we first met he sang it to me in the club we were in lol. Has always been 'our song' since then. W are having wonderful tonight - cheesy and predictable but we love the song and the sentiment Plus h2b always says you look lovely today and i always reply "just today" as a joke so thinking when the words you look wonderful tonight are sung i might whisper - "just tonight" to make him giggle!

We are going for something a little old school, Stand by Me - Ben E King because it has a certain sentiment, we have been through a lot in our relationship... deaths, redundances you name it, and we always said we will be fine as long as we have each other, so it just fits perfectly. Being 28 it'll be the last song anyone will expect, i bet they are expecting bruno Mars or something modern, but it's a classic and we love it. :) xx

Kitkat85, we're having Al Green - Let's stay together too, we both love it and it's not too soppy but just right...a company I have to ring often at work have it on their hold music and it makes me go all fuzzy :-D - I could stay on hold all day, so I know it's the right choice for us. That's what a first dance song should do I think, just make you imagine that one moment, it doesn't have to be a perfect love song, it has to mean something to the both of you. We're having 'Blue Jeans and White T-Shirts' by the Gaslight Anthem as our first song. It's not a typical wedding song, bordering on inappropriate, plus I have no idea how you're supposed to dance to it! But it's been our song since we got together, and we both agreed we'd rather have our first dance to something that is meaningful for us, rather than a more conventional wedding song that we didn't really have that emotional connection with.
Having said that, second song is going to be Roy Orbision's 'I Drove All Night'!

We've gone for Happy Together by The Turtles. It's very well known, has been on a few adverts and on tv recently but I love it. It's happy and upbeat, which may make the dancing bit harder (!) but we're not a slushy couple so something slow and ballad-like wouldn't suit us. xx

We are having two first dances!! Our First, first dance we are having Snow Patrol 'Shut your eyes'. As it fits perfectly with us it is not overly soppy but just a subtle commitment running through the song, which is like us two. Plus is mentions snow!! Which we are hoping for.
And our Second, first dance song is counting crows 'Accidentially in Love' from the Shrek film as this will be our first official family dance as our little ones will dance with us.
When I read the original post Daniel Bedingfield popped into my head- he did a lovely song called 'Never gonna leave your side' maybe a consideration?

We didn't want a first dance because the thought of dancing with all those eyes on us made us both feel embarrassed but now, I'm thinking I'll have had a few champagnes and won't care and I'd quite like one!!
