Not sure if I can say the name of the group on here but a bridal shop group with stores in Woolton Liverpool, Preston, Chester and southport has gone into liquidation.
I put a £1000 deposit on my dress at the Chester store and it looks like I will now lose it am absolutely gutted :(
They are saying they will try to fill any orders placed and that they are in contact with suppliers but I have already read a report from one supplier saying they have been trying to get in contact with the group and have been ignored! Doesn't sound like good news at all :(

That's terrible, any chance you put the deposit on a credit card? If so you should be able to get some if not all of it back.

Have you got wedding insurance? if you're not able to get the money back via the administrators, you may be able to through your insurance...just a thought. x

Thanks for all your help girls but unfortunately I paid in cash and did not have wedding insurance so unless I can get the deposit back from the liquidators it seems unlikely that I will get anything. I have spoken to a friend who is a barrister today who is going to help me out finding out who the liquidators are and writing a legal letter for me but she sai that unsecured creditors like myself and last in line to be repaid when the assets are liquidated so not to hold my breath!
The initials are T B G if you have a look on the Liverpool Echo website you will see an article looks like there has been trouble from people in even worse situations than me as at least I have time to get it eleswhere! I'm just so gutted to throw away such a huge ammount of money and just hope it's not a bad omen!!

Oh my goodness how awful. I got my beautiful dress from there-picked it up 4/10/12 and the staff didn't seem to have an inkling . I feel so lucky that i wasn't affected and so sorry for anyone who is. xxx

How terrible! Unfortunately, in this situation unsecured creditors are the last to get paid...
I do hope you get it sorted, but it can be a very slow process (as in, taking years) so I would certainly not be relying on getting anything in time for your wedding.

I don't think the staff had a clue the lady at the Chester store who sold me my dress had worked there for 15 yrs, my mum has just been made redundant and she was saying how she would be devastated if that ever happend to her so she definately don't know!
So glad you got yours, I've got time to get it again so I'm lucky really it's only money at the end of the day I couldn't think of anything worse than this happening a few months before and being left with no dress!!

ive just had a good look on the sites and another few forums and I think they are mentioning that the suppliers themselves are going to sort it in most cases and cover the loss so you may be ok. Keep on the chase and dont let it lie x

Apparently the staff knew nothing but the company knew this in july and kept taking brides money. They are so naughty arent they.

Wish my dress was Venus now ha! Unfortunately mine is Pronovias so very much doubt they will be as helpful! I wasn't even measured for my dress so I know they didn't even order if from Pronovias so if they did know the business was going under that early it was blatant fraud but I know I won't have any way to prove that and in any case it would be far too expensive to pursue!

let us know how you get on. I am sure you can come to some arrangement. Can you take out wedding insurance and deny all knowlege the group has gone under until afterwards? I doubt it but I cant think of what else to do?

Haha thought about that myself but reading policy documents they won't pay out if the information was in the public domain when insurance was taken out and since its been in local press don't think that will work!

oh erm..... I honestly dont know what to say. Hopefully your barrister friend should be able to sort something out. Did she sound reasonably optimistic? Find out the original managing director, where he lives and take all the brides affected to his friggin hose and just sit there making as much noise as possible until he does something!

No she warned me that it was very unlikely that I would get anything back as an unsecured creditor but she's been great looking into it for me and said we will give it our best shot! Good idea a raging mob with fire torches a pitch forks to hunt him down may make me feel better if the rumours are true that he knew about it back in July!!

This happened to a friend last year with a shop near us. Fortunately she got wedding insurance who paid her back. Not good for you. I'm sorry to read it.

I have ordered a dress from them and paid a £600 deposit, I emailed them this morning to say ask how a dress was going to be delivered when they don't even have a shop and I just got a standard email back saying that any dress that was already in shop was safe and they were trying to get the suppliers to deliver the other dresses regardless. but I do not understand how they can deliver a dress when they don't have any shops to deliver it too. My dress is an essence dress and the only other people who supply it in the UK are based in Cardiff and I am North Wales so looks like I may have to start my search again. However, on a plus point I have insurance and paid on a credit card so I am doubly secure with that one.

Jenny it is worth contacting the designer directly, apparently some of them are saying they will honour the order and take the hot themselves on your deposit and deliver directly to you. Mine is Pronovias and their customer service is shocking so I doubt I will have any luck but worth a try for you x

Jenny/Holly i know neither of you have ordered your dresses from the Preston shop but there is another shop in the preston area that is making it their mission to help any brides affected as much as they can.They have already contacted 3 of the designers who are happy to transfer the orders over to the 'new shop' and they are contacting as many brides as possible to see if/how they can help them. It might be that the same is happening in your area...look at the fb pages of other local bridal shops (thats how i discovered what was happening in our area) or maybe even have a ring round.

This is such horrible news for any ladies who have dealt with this.
Just a thought but maybe write to your local newspaper about what has happened to you, getting public support is a huge help when it comes to getting money back.

I had a look at the dress makers website and their is no way of contacting them directly through it, it just says to contact a supplier. In my blind panic I didn't see that there are other shops stocking the designer closer than Cardiff, there is one in Manchester so I had thought of contacting them and seeing if there was anyway of them helping me out. I had an email from the shop saying that all customers would receive letters today detailing what would happen but I haven't had one, might just be the slow North Wales postal service. Have you received a letter Holly?

do you have a picture of the dress you wanted. i know someone who baught loads of dresses from a bridal shop that was closing down, maybe she will have a dress simular to the one you want. i dont know what prices she is asking but i can get in touch with her if you like =)

this is awful, best of luck to all the brides trying to sort this out you will need the patience of a saint but keep email, phones and making contact until you get answers. I found my dream dress in the Chester branch but thought it was too much money and got a local dress maker to alter another dress to look like it.

Yeah thats all I want, I want to know if I need to go and order my dress from someone else or just sit and wait it out. Also I now have to re-do all my sums because they were doing free alterations, a £75 accessories voucher and 10% off bridesmaids so now I have to find all that money again.
