Wondering if anyone could help? I know most of you are AMAZING on the web.....
I am looking for a Black Wedding Dress COAT.... Even if its not originally black, so long as theres a chance of dying it without the dye leaking, I will be happy. I have found one from Justin Alexander that I LOVE, however I cant find a price for ONLY the coat, it seems to come with a dress! which is really annoying!
Can anyone help please? I'm not after this particular one just one with a train thats black would be awesome... thanks again....

thanks Sarah, I just looked and found something on page four that i love.... its only a pattern for it, however depending on how much material would be needed/cost of it, im sure i could make one myself for much less that £280 odd quid! hehe thanks so much.... heres a photo of what i found on the link you sent me....

wow... that's lovely :)... I made all my bridesmaid dresses the first time I got married (5 of them) - kinda put me off sewing for an age. Spare daughter's b.friend bought her a sewing machine for xmas and I've been helping her make it - give me a shout if you want any assistance (I know we're not far from each other geographically - I think) x

No Lyn we are not far, how much material do you think I would need for this? I want it black, but not shiny material. I am size 16-18, and 5ft7, I need the train, as stated would like to combine the two patterns to make the skirt of the jacket more like the justin alexander coat. I'm looking for a rough price and suggestion on material.
I don't know - I know it's hard to get good fabric nowadays but spare daughter got some online (and I think they send swatches). I'll see if I can find a pattern for you online...am excited for you :)

not easy to find as you say - there seems to be a v-o-gue one... but can only see that in the US.. did find one for a cape though (mind that's not what you're looking for hehe)

how much does it say on that one - the vog one said around 3 metres to make the coat.

it doesn't say does it.. odd. what you could do, is buy it and then lay it out on an old sheet to suss out how much you'd need.. maybe if you asked the seller a question they'd tell you how much it'd need. It's a lovely pattern, not sure how you would change the bodice as its a cross-over fastening, but nowt ventured, nowt gained .. have found another pattern - try searching for floor length coat. will put link on your wall.

Lovely coat. Before making it out of your choice fabric it would be to make a muslin one. That way you work out any issues with the pattern using much cheaper fabric. Also you'll be able to figure out how much fabric you'll need. But they should give you an amount of fabric you'll need, I'd pm them.

Yeh i have a few dbl flat sheets i could use as a trial.... Cant use them on my bed as my mattress is super thick! Dbl bed but have to use king sheets lol

Yeh then i could also see how/if its possible to taje part of the train off afterwards too to use as a fitted trench coat.... Cant fi.d any i like so woukd be good to be able to make one.... Or i could make two hehe
