    Hi,

Im not sure what to do about a choice of wedding cake and I would like to know your ideas...

I like the idea of a cupcake cake coz i love cupcakes but I know this is kind of a regularly done thing now..

I also like the idea of have a traditional 3 tier cake with maybe a me-to you cake topper.

However, I dont like fruit cake but the H2B does so Im a bit stuck for ideas!

    Can you help me please?

    Thanks
    Erica

    Heya!
If you wanted to go with a traditional tiered cake why don't you have each tier a different flavour.....i am. Having bottom fruit (heaviest so has to be on the bottom) the two plain sponge and two chocolate! Something for everyone then. Cupcake ideas are so lovely, i just wanted a traditional tiered cake persoanlly. x x x

We're also struggling, 'cos I hate fruit cake & h2b is allergic to nuts, so fruitcake & marzipan is a BAD idea!!! lol!

We looked at cupcakes, but they were a tad expensive. Then we looked at having a 3 teir sponge, but sponge cakes don't serve as many as fruit cake! Now we are thinking of having a mixed cake - fruit for the bottom teir (it has to be the bottom 'cos it's heavier), then plain sponge for the middle tier & chocolate sponge for the top!!

You could also have a small sponge cake that you cut & another cutting cake for your guests... the options are endless!! lol!!

My thoughts are that with a mixed 3 teir cake there are 3 options, so you've got a good chance of keeping most people happy! lol! x x x

my dad doesnt like fruit cake but my mum does so when they got married, they had a three tier cake with bottom two tiers made out of fruit and top tier made out of sponge. Maybe thats something you could do. We're thinking of having the cup cakes and then a small cake on top for OH and I (and probs my boys lol). xx

I'm having an 8 tier fake cake it is nearly finished and looks stunning once we've "cut " it at the reception it gets wheeled away and slabs of iced fruit and sponge cake will be served on plates with jugs of fresh cream no one will be the wiser and it is hundreds of pounds cheaper xxx

I originally was going to have cupcakes but I've now changed my mind to mini square cakes with a large one on on top (pics of a similar design are in my profile) it means it's still a bit different & we are having 3 flavours too. There are so many choices I changed my mind several times before settling on these but I'm really happy with them now :) x

One of my bridesmaids and one of my friends offered to make my cake as soon as they found out I was engaged :) We're going to have cupcakes in 3 different flavours and there's a cake tin you can buy shaped like a giant cupcake which is going to sit on the top for the cutting :)

Was thinking of having cupcakes but my friend has offered to make me a wedding cake (shes very good!) so we are taking her up of her offer! Plus she is doing it as a wedding present which is brill. Thinking of asking her to do a three tier square cake, top and bottom vanilla sponge and middle chocolate sponge with a white chocolate icing on it x

you can have a different type of cake on each tier, i think traditional cakes look so nice, we are having sponge only, but that is because it worked out a lot cheaper than fruit x

i am going to have 3 tiers but as me and h2b dont like fruit it will be the smallest 1 on the top but after reading this i am going to have to have 3 individual cakes on a stand which i didnt really want. might have to re-think.

there is a french fancy cake, you can buy a big french fancy birthday cake so you have that on top of individual french fancies and you can do it in 3 different colour schemes, brown, pink or yellow lol xx

I'm also having the fake cake and serving up different types of sheet cakes! Its the cheapest and easiest way to do it and if you are crafty you can even make the fake cake yourself like I am :)

I am in near enough the same situation, I love fruit cake, OH hates it and wants sponge. So, to make everyone happy, I'm having the bottom tier as a fruit cake and the other 2 will be sponge.

I was planning on having top layer as fruit but thanks to the previous posts will need to re think that never thought about it being heavier. xxx

Why not incoporate them all. Have a tier cake with some seperate cupcakes and mix the flavours etc.

We´re doing the giant cupcake thing as well, having one big one so we can still have a cake-cutting, and then having cupcakes in our colours.

I think advantages of cupcakes is that you can literally have as many flavours as you want, so there will be something for everyone and it also means that chances are they will all get eaten - heard so many times about wedding cake being left over or chucked away because nobody ate it! I have four wedding colours to work with, so going to try make four different flavours and decorate them :)

dont worry about having fruit cake on the bottom. You can still have all your tiers as light sponge cakes and just get a "cutting cake" for the fruit part. Thats what i am doing, as its not decorated and its cut up in the kitchen out of sight its only about £20 for a great big slab of it.
H2B likes fruit cake, but I want my 3 tiers of chocolate with white chocolate buttercream, coconut with lime buttercream and then either a top tier of lemon drizzle or vanilla!
so by getting a cutting cake we both get what we want.
