Hi everyone! Wow I haven't been on this site for months! My hubby & I are "trying" for a baby - literally only just started, we've spoken about it since our big day six months ago and we had a big heart to heart on Saturday night, where we decided to take the next step!

This is all great, but over the last 3 months or so my periods have been all over the place. I haven't been using any contraceptive pills, and I've always been regular until now. My last proper period started on 26th July, and that was 3 weeks late. Since then, I've had some light 'spotting' type bleeding around 10 days ago, which lasted for a couple of days. And nothing else :(

I'm a little concerned - I've taken several pregnancy tests, all negative. I've spoken to my doctor who isn't concerned, it's "normal" for young women apparently. He said it could be for any reason, have I been stressed recently? I suppose so, some of you may remember my nan who was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in February, she was too poorly from chemo to attend my wedding :( well she passed away on 9th July. I've also been working a lot, and have started smoking again as a result - I know, not good!

Any help, advice or tips appreciated. My cycle is certainly not its normal self :/

Hey there. I have never had regular periods. I have had what you have the spotting and and it lasted over two months. I went to my doctor and she said that I should continue to take the pill. She told me that it was normal and if it was a huge amount of blood i was losing at a time then i should start to worry. After two months the spotting shop and my periods when back to what i was used to.
if it helps and a toddler and new born at the time. Just moved and trying to sort every thing out. So mine was due to stress, over worked and my body was just trying to tell to slow down. Lol.
But in both my pregnancies I have had spotting. And and with my second baby test came up negative. So if you are worried you can go to the doctors and ask for them to do the test to make sure.
I hope i have helped in some way. Xxxx

Maybe try using OPK's to see when your ovulating?
I think if your period are irrelgular this is the most effective way to find out when it is best time to concieve

my periods were never regular until this year....i just turned 30. I could have a heavy period lasting for 10 days and then nothing for 3 months and spot bleed for 2 days and then a week later bleed heavily for 3 days and nothing for a month and spot again. i wouldn't worry about it too much, enjoy trying for a baby and i am sure it will happen soon enough xx

My periods are never regular and only were wen I was on microgynon... I came off that and again irregulars... Then I went onto the implant... I still get the occasional very light bleed and symptoms of a period...

I'm glad I'm not the only one tho!

    Good luck x

my first advice would be "stop trying " the more you put a label in it the more stressed you will get each month ..... reax .... do what nature intended and wait to be surprised

As you've said you have only just started so you should just enjoy the process. There's really no need to be worried or stressed about getting pregnant.
My only recommendations would be to quit smoking, start taking prenatal vitamins or a supplement with folic acid. Also, it'd be a good idea to lower your stress levels - I find exercise works for me even if it's only a little bit.

I was stressing about it given we have been trying for over a year and a half with no luck, periods have just about become semi regular with them alternating between 24 and 28 days, but it is the thought in my head that I haven't been successful conceiving even once. I think I would feel a bit better had I already managed to have a child, because then I would know that it was at least possible! So you are not alone, there are a fair few of us trying, and you have been through some very stressful times. I would agree with lala "mod" bunni, stop trying, and if something happens, WONDERFUL! This is what we have decided to do. Afterall, the checking with tests is an expensive, and mostly disappointing process for me and many. Good luck!!

Thanks for your responses everybody :-)
I'm trying to relax into it, we officially "did the deed" for the first time last night. I already feel so giddy! How on earth do you stay calm?!
I'm ditching the fags, starting folic acid tablets & not bothering with OPKs just yet. We're not trying, just having a great time ;-)

Didn't want to start a completely new thread, so hope people see this!

On day #3 of ditching the cigarettes and it's horrendous. I've smoked on and off for eight years, longest I stopped for was three years and I've never had a problem before, but this time the cravings are so strong. Anyone got any tips? Other than patches/gum etc.

    Thanks xxx

My auntie was a 40-50 a day lady. She used a nicorette inhalor. She said it kept her hands busy. All of our family said she would never manage to stay off the fags, we hardly ever saw her without a cigarette but she did. Been fag free for about 13 years now!!! xx
