Does anyone have any experience of trying/getting pregnant after having the contraceptive implant removed?
I had mine removed at the end of june to start trying. When i originally had the implant put in i was told it can take about 3 months for the hormones to leave your system and for you to become fertile (or up to a year in extreme cases.) But then when i had it reemoved she said no, it leaves your system straight away, you'll be fertile within 24 hours!!
So I am just wondering if anyone knows from personal experience how long it took them to get pregnant after having the implant out?? Thanks x

Hey hun
I dont know about the implant, but I do know a friend of mine got the injection, and she'd been told that after stopping, it could take upto 2 yrs for her hormones to get back to normal before she could get pregnant. She didnt even have a single period after coming off and she was preggers. Good luck with it and all the best for your wedding in 9 days! How exciting is that for you! x

I was told that within 24 hours you're unprotected and therefore could get pregnant. I came off the implant last Aug as it wasn't working for me (extreme bleeding for 45+ days and horrific mood swings resulting in me becoming hysterical). We're planning on starting to try as soon after the wedding as possible and I wanted to give my body some time off hormones before that, so have been free of them for a year now (always been on the injection, implant or pill since I was 14 due to heavy, painful periods). Hx
Vegas baby!

The advice I have always been given with any sort of contraception like that is wait until after your first normal period after coming off the contraception.
im having my implant removed on saturday as ive been heavily bleeding for 2 weeks and this happened before when my first implant was running out!! mum's not happy that i have chosen to only use condoms from now on but i am a grown up lol
i have heard and read that 24 hrs after the implant is removed you are back to your fertile state!

No it doesnt leave your system straight away. We were told it did leave your system straight away by my GP. I had implant taken out Jan 2007 and started to panic when we had countless negative results. Finally found I was pregnant in early June 2007. At the hospital the doctor said it can take up to 6 months for your body to re-adjust to allow an egg to fertilise. I am only telling you of my experience as I became so deflated when we were not getting pregnant straight away. I am not the most patient of people but my lil boy was well worth the wait. Best of luck hun xx

i was also told i would become fertile straight away but it took me 6 months to fall pregnant with my second.
i don't know if this was due to the implant or just not having (enough) sex at the right time!!
good luck honey :)

From the faculty of sexual and reproductive healthcare advice Following removal of the progestogen-only implant, concentrations of the hormone are undetectable after a mean of 6 days (range, 1–10 days). Ovulation and fertility return within 3 months of removal. A meta-analysis reported return of ovulation within 3 weeks in 94% of women.
Women should be informed that there is no evidence of a delay in return of fertility following removal of a progestogen-only implant
They have to therefore say you could have no hormone left in your body after 24 hours and therefore could no longer be protected. However for most people fertility wont return to normal til a few months have passed
There are so many people out there who will tell you
what you can't do.
What you have to do is turn around and say, "watch me"!!

when i had mine put in last month my doctor told me that although the hormone leaves your body within 24hours everyone is different and it just depends on how long it takes your body to get back to normal, i agree with jane your prob best giving your body a few months break :) xxx

I just had my implant put in recently and my doctor told me that it depends on the type of implant you have how quickly you become fertile again. My implant is neoplant (I think), and the doc said once it's taken out, I could get pregnant in the car park on the way out if I wanted (her words)!
