got a text a few mins ago from MIL2B saying "i have got you a little something for your wedding, sod the rest of them!". So i asked H2B what she meant by the sod the rest of them bit. He said he didnt know, so I asked him if maybe some people were talking about me buying stuff already when we still have two years to go, and he then said yeah, i might have said something to my parents about "I cant believe she is buying things already, two years seems a long way away to me".

I have bought hardly anything! i bought flower girl posies for £3, some scatter crystals for £5 and just got my invitations for £88 as they were cheap in a sale. Oh and a pair of embroidered pouches for our rings, which cost £3 i think. THATS IT!

AND the only reason I am buying stuff now is because we are going to Australia in September (was booked before H2B proposed) so we are not starting to save for the wedding until we get back. But when we get back its major saving and beans on toast time for two years! And as I have saved up more than enough spending money for Oz, i thought it best to buy a few wee things now, whilst i can!

am I being unreasonable?? WHY is he moaning about me buying things already when he knows my reasons for doing it?? If it got left to him nothing would get done. When I ask him who is best man is going to be he says "not really thought about it yet" Which says it all to me.

Many men don't get excited the same way women do.

Like the best man- mine took 16 months to chose his. He wanted to make sure he made the right choice. Whereas women know who they want to be bridesmaids before they are engaged.

It's a man thing linzi, they don't understand the organisation and finances that go into a wedding until they get it rammed down their throats - pay no notice to him, it'd be different if it was him spending money on something ;)

Yep definitely a man thing. They don't pay attention to details like we do - I bet they wouldn't even know what a ring pouch or posy was!! I would take no notice - you're excited about getting married and so you should be. You need to enjoy and savour every moment of the planning because once you're married - thats it! No more fun planning lol So you have 2 years to make you're wedding perfect and 2 years to get together all the little details - enjoy it. Don't let other people wee wee on your fireworks xx

MzEden, MIL2B got me a traditional irish linen handkerchief with little white wedding bells on it, on a blue card that says "the ringing bells sing out to say, remember please this wedding day".

    sounds lovely.

Bet H2B is dreading coming home now. Although he must be in a huff too cause he would normally have text me by now.......
i just wish he could get excited about this. I asked him if his Dad would like to read out an irish blessing half way through the ceremony and he said it was a nice idea and his Dad would be touched. That was a few weeks ago, and he hasnt even mentioned it to his Dad yet!!!! If that was me i would have been straight onto the phone to my Dad.

every time i talk about the wedding i feel like people are rolling their eyes at me, so I have been trying not to talk about it at all!!! So glad i have this place. xxx

Ahh I sort of know how you feel, my brother got Married on Friday so I have been keeping schtum as I don't want to take the focus away from his wedding day so I've been bursting to tell my mum my ideas and what we're having etc.. and I when I did I got "well you've another year to go yet" NO IN HAVEN'T I'VE GOT 8 MONTHS!!! so I know what its like when you want to tell people and you get a little "there there dear" pat on the head.

    Take no notice hun!

Jeeeees my family won't know whats hit them now my brothers is over and done with! lol

Kieran rolls his eyes when I'm on here but it was his idea to join!
The wedding is a long way off, mine is closer and still feels an age away so I can understand that he thinks maybe it's a bit early. I do myself when I'm looking at bits! He will probably get more involved when there is more that can be done. As for asking his Dad, he'll do it nearer the time, in his eyes there's no rush. He'll say yes if he asks him next week or 3 days before.
When ever anyone says anything about me planning things early I mention that the VAT rate is increasing in January and I can get stuff 2.5% cheaper now. That usually shuts them up!

Not unreasonable at all! Theres sooooo much that goes into a wedding the more time you have to buy items the better. Far easier to start buying now and spread the cost than one huge spend closer to the time. Hes v much like my Steve in that he just doesnt get it. He wont take the time to sit down and look at all whats involved so he scratches his head as to why Im faffing about like a headless chicken and do lil dances when I grabbed a bargain. To fair with my h2b, after our marriage fees letter this morning, hes sat up and taken a lil bit of interest. Could be because he knows it could seriously hurt his wallet tho. Will give him the benefit of the doubt. Nice one on your MIL2B tho, at least it sounds like shes excited! xx

linzi, my wedding is in 16 days and all mada is bothered about is having some time off work. i hav done al the organising and wen i have asked for his opinion all he says is as long as i'm happy then its all good. most girls hav been planning their wedding day since they were about 7 yrs old and unfortunately men dont see it as exciting as we do. ours has been booked for 2 years and my dress has been hanging in my mam and dads spare room for around 8 months. dont let it get you down hunni its just a bloke thing xx

I just hate the thought of him going moaning about it to his parents. They are not exactly fully onside anyway, as they think that spending so much money on a wedding is a joke. But as they are not putting a penny towards it I dont feel like its any of their business how much we spend! His parents are lovely, but a bit old fashioned and just dont realise what a wedding costs these days. They keep saying that we should consider what else we could do with the money. Thing is tho, if it wasnt for wedding we wouldnt be saving!

i am sure his parents think that this is the wedding I want, and I am pushing for all the bells and whistles and that Shaun would be quite happy with a registry office and a McDonalds afterwards. But this is the wedding WE want. He said he wants to give me my dream wedding no matter what the cost, and this is my dream wedding! Just wish I had a bit more support from him and he would stick up for me when he is alone with his parents and not go moaning to them about OUR wedding!

He keeps saying theres plenty of time but 14 months will soon be here, lol..... its best to get things that you see (and if there a bargain then even better) then put them away and its one less thing that your having to worry about and fork money out for!!!!! Well thats what I keep telling him anyway, lmao

Hope your ok hun :) xx

Firstly - his mum so obviously gets it and how nice was that of her. Secondly -Never hang up - if my H2B & I are mad we just say I cant talk about this now I love you but I'm not doing this while I'm p'd off. Thirdly - If you hung up then you apologise. Fourthly - beware the Bridezilla within. So glad you have chatted it through and the penny has dropped. As for your order of service, best men etc better to decide nearer the time - Ive changed and changed my mind as Ive seen new things as have many brides on here so better to wait till you have made a final decision than ask someone now and then feel you cant change it later. Enjoy planning and enjoy your hols and enjoy your beans on toast it will all be worth it in the end x
