Traditional i think you do it this way:

    Best Man
    Grooms Mother
    Brides Father
    Bride
    Groom
    Brides Mother
    grooms Father
    Chief Bridesmaid

However nowadays people do their top tables differently as family structures have changed so much xx

we're having us, adams parents, my mum and her partner (dad died years ago) best man and MoH.
    We're sitting in this order:

    Best Man (Adam's bro)
    Groom's Dad
    Groom's Mum
    Groom
    Bride
    Bride's Mum
    Mum's partner
    Maid of Honour

I really wanted to mix them, but since my mum and her partner don't really like Adam's mum, and vice versa, we thought it would be safer just to let them sit with 'their side'. Haha!!

traditionally the brides mum would sit next to grooms dad, and so on, but it depends on your family as to whether you want to do that! As I said, NO WAY am I mixing ours!!

I feel your pain Sara, H2b's parents are divorced and my parents aren't keen on his dad so our seating plan is going to be awkward. But we're having a round or oval "top" table in the middle of the room so I'm hoping that the shape might make things a bit easier - people can just talk to the person on their left if they don't like the one on their right and vice versa!!

We're undecided on exactly who'll be there but currently its

    MOH
    Father of Bride
    Mother of Bride
    our son
    me
    h2b
    mother of groom
    father of groom
    best man

Remaining bridal party will be sitting with their OH's at a table in front of the top table. I thought we'd be as well letting our parents sit beside their own partner, they'll already be in the spotlight and dont know each other particularly well so will be more comfortable with their own OH. Also, my mum's sitting closer to me so that I can have my son between us x

    We are having

    Best Man
    Grooms father
    Grooms mother
    Groom
    Bride
    Brides mother
    Bridesmaid
    Flower girl

My dad will not be there, and my mum is doing the speech, but I am not sure how well she is going to cope doing it, so I wanted me and my sister either side of her to support her if need be. It has been a difficult couple of years for her and I think the day will be very upsetting (in a happy way) for her. Xx

My parents are dead and my boys and the eldests girlfriend are on the top table along with h2b's parents and us of course lol. I thought my MOH, my sister was going to throw a wobbly when I told her yesterday that she isn't on the top table. I explained I wanted to keep families together so her and BIL would be together on a table with the bridesmaid and her family. The best man will be on a table with his family but both tables are right in front of the top table.

We are not having the traditional top table as between us we have 7 children and we are including them in our top table with us as we want to make it special for them in the joining of the families. Not sure how my two older boys will feel though about being centre of attention on there!! LOL!

lilly if you are really worried how about not having a 'top table'. My friend had a table just for the bride and groom and everyone else was seated on the ordinary round tables. She named them rather than numbered them and put the wedding party and parents etc on the nearest to them. It worked really well, she split up anyone that didnt like each other and her and the groom had an hour to themselves just to enjoy the meal and have a chat xx
