We haved this problem, the wedding room will only take 30!! we are not having any family at all as nobody gets on with anybody so our friends are the only guests. What we have said is we really want people there but sadly there isn't enough room. people with kids have said they would rather be outside with them so they can run around, so priority is for the elderly and disabled. If it's a nice day people won't mind, especially if you explain your situation. We have said if there is any chance it is raining then we will meet them all at the reception but some have said they will sit and wait in their cars just so they can be in the photos! Talk to them all hun, you may be suprised about how supportive they are. xx

Its only a small registry office with only 1 room. Most that i'm inviting r family with partners and children. I could say no children but i don't want too offend them and that they don't come to the reception. My family are very stubborn like that

tbh hun if they dont understand that children will take up spaces that you would rather family to have and then dont come to your reception .....why would you want them there anyway?

Have you considered the fact that some people will not come? Our registry office room will take 40 people and I was worried as we invited about 44, as it has turned out our final guest list for the daytime now looks as though it will 37 max. So I didnt have to worry at all!

As a wedding planner I have seen this a few times (please do not consider me to be selling as this really is not the place your all so independent to try to sell services to lol and I really am engaged with two kids check my book of face for confirmation) one way to get round it which is actually rather popular is to take bride and groom to registry office with witnesses first thing in morning without the dress, get married (extra half hour to the day max) then each go and get ready and do the ceremony at the reception instead. Have the aisle and see husbands face (which most of you say is the best bit) and create your own ceremony. This would mean saving costs on transport too. And makes it cheaper than having the registrar go to the reception to marry you there.

This is considered a humanist ceremony, if you look up universal life church, they ordain random people although this is not legally recognised in this country you could make someone feel special and ask them to do this so you get a certificate from them too. (Anyone remember friends? This is what Joey did for Monica and Chandler only its legally recognised in the states)

Either way this is a good alternative to not having everyone there. D I y your ceremony. Any more advise let me know

I looked into it a couple of years ago, I'm looking into petition ing to get it legally recognised in this country as its such a popular thing now. Only there have not been any proper statistics collected to make it worth making it legally recognised.

Like I say jen its just a suggestion that some may find works for them as we say so often on here, you can't help everyone. Though I'm sure we all wish we could.

Not everything will be right for everyone. But I'm here for more suggestions.

My brother had this problem when he got married in the local registry office and he asked the partners if they would mind not coming into the ceremony itself - and particularly where the partners were male (mine included) they really didn't mind this at all since many men aren't that bothered about the ceremony itself. They appeared after the ceremony for photos and the reception etc, but it saved on the space in the ceremony room

I wouldnt worry about it tbh..... our ceremony room was only meant to hold 100........ we had people standing up at the back and crammed in lol, more than the "allowed" number. The registrar even got extra chairs!

im sure they would rather u say no to children than adults who u would prefer to be there.... you will have to cut from somewhere im afraid. Invite the kids afterwards.
