HELP!! I need your opinions please ladies ....
I have always loved tea length dresses and the glamour that goes with them. As we are having a very small doo, I've been thinking of having a tea length dress for my wedding dress as I think it will definitely fit in with our low key vintage theme. Have found the above 2 dresses on the bay which I love, but am worried that being a bigger bride, the style won't suit me .... what do you think? xx

    Yes!

I think it's the most flattering style for all figures. Really for all shapes. Halterneck is nit always easy to pull off but the capsleeves on the dresses above are so flattering. To hide a tummy - I think the first one may be more flattering as it nips in the waist with a sash (brilliant trick to look thinner - I adore sashes) - I think the second one has a dropped waist or at least a longer bodice. Hard to say if that would flatter or accentuate curves.

Why dont you go into a department store or something and just try on some of their dresses which are of similar style to see if they suit you hun xx that way at least you get an idea of the shape etc.....its hard to say yes it does, or no it dont suit as not every style of dress suits everybody - no matter what their body shape xxxx

definately agree with Littlemissbossy, tea length dresses are very flattering and i think you would absolutely rock it, i agree the first one would probably look better, it has quite a naturally waist and would nip you in beautifully.

Personally I think it looks best when the arms are covered. I am a HUGE fan of 3/4 sleeves because they are so flattering and thinning especially if they sit tight.
Dress nr. 10 looks like my dress :-)

WOW!! love number 13....for obvious reasons!! (pink underskirt and funky shoes!!) lol

yes!! a fuller figure can pull off a tea length dress!!

it can give the illusion of a small waist, and you're drawing attention to one of the thinnest parts of your body...you're ankles!! :)

The dresses are amazing and the women all look absolutely gorgeous, really beautiful. Just showed the pics to H2b and he really likes them too, he just said I should have a red petticoat until I reminded him that we don't have red in our theme!
I'm liking the cap sleeves or 3/4 length sleeves too, think they would be more flattering on my arms ....... can't stop looking at them, they are amazing!! xx

The first 7 pics are all the same dress - this designer is such a lovely person. When I first started planning in January 2010 I had my heart set on this dress but in white like dress Nr. 10 with a polkadot overlay and I wanted the sleeves in the sheer polka dot fabric. She is not more expensive than other "proper" wedding dresses but still out of my budget - the sketch in my albums she made for me when I still thought it may be possible. She customises what you want and how you want it.
2 years on - luckily - this trend had caught on so much that I even found a polka dotted dress on ebay - will sew on sleeves myself.

She is a very talented lady, I've been browsing through her pictures this morning. Like you LMB, I'm afraid that her gorgeous creations are out of my budget range too sadly but I am now very set on having a dress like these for my wedding day. Wish I could walk in higher heels too as I think they look fab with these dresses, my 4cm heels will have to suffice! LMB would you mind posting to my wall where you are getting your dress from please? x

I think you'll look fab! All LMB's pics just seem to have a bit more of a fun attitude, which I'm crediting to the brides & their dresses :) I prefer the neckline on the second one but agree about the sash on the first. Although I'd get longer sleeves added, cap sleeves are not slimming for arms - apparently 3/4 length and floaty sleeves that reach the widest part of your arm are best :) Xx

I think I am leaning more towards dress number 1 (of my 2 pics ) too EcoFreak. I like how the sash nips in the waist, or in my case, creates a waist! and I very much like the length. I agree with both you and LMB about the 3/4 sleeves looking better on bigger arms so will message the seller and see what they say. Now I am having dilemmas on the colour scheme! Originally I was going to go with a champagne dress as my accessories are ivory and champagne but now I don't know. If I went with dress number 1 do you think it would look nice if I had an ivory dress with a champagne sash? My flowers and shoes are ordered so can't change the colour of those! xx

I am going for a tea length style as i want the 1950s look for my outfit but not the overall theme, i've been searching for dresses but not tried any on yet but i know the shape suits my figure and hides all my lumps and bumps whilst still making me feel nice........i have quite a few circle dresses from Vivien of Holloway and they are lovely - she does wedding dresses but check the sizing as she uses vintage sizing and they are NOT the same as the highstreet (i would say 2 sizes different i.e a high street size 16 would need to be a VOH size 20 - but they look fab so who cares what number the label says!! )

Cutting Edge Brides have a website and they have tea length styles - this is my fave so far........

I love Tea Length dresses, in fact I had one. I bought it off a china site that made it for me, with a matching bolero jacket. it cost £102. it was the JA 8465.
Although i loved the dress, as my top half is a size 18 to accomadate my girls.....I felt fat in it, my daughter said i didnt look fat but i FELT it. so i d=sold it on Ebay and got the exct same price as what i bought it for....bonus!
but I have ordered a dres i love, but i still wish i could wear a tea length.....who knows? i might chop the hem off the one I get! LOL
Joking aside.....I might just see if i COULD make my dress either tea length or perhaps ballerina length.....Hmmmmm

this was the back of my dress and jacket....loved the buttons

I think VoH custom makes to a certain extent - prices are pricey for normal dresses but very reasinable for wedding dresses. Around £80-90. But they are all halterneck. I've seen on blogs before how brides have customised the VoH wedding dresses themselves.

Also beyond budget but just to sigh and swoon - have a look at Candy Anthony!

LMB I was sighing and swooning over Candy Anthony earlier - way beyond budget!
Just had another look through VoH gallery, there is one dress in the wedding section that I really like, can't copy and save it though unfortunately but it's the one where she is stood between her 2 bridesmaids who are wearing purple polka dot dresses. The brides dress is lacy, just the thing I am after, doesn't look halter neck but can't really tell as she is wearing a bolero x

Oh don't, candy Anthony is the dream but dresses are like £2000 plus!! Hence iluv cakes, why i thinky h2b should allow me the cutting edge one as although still alot, they are wayyyyy less than candy ones!!

Little Missy Bossy is right about the prices for her normal dresses but I think the wedding ones are more around the £120 mark then if you wanted a petticoat too, the stock same petticoats which out of all the types I've had are the best (soft tulle so are comfty when sat down and you get an awesome twirl in then when dancing!!!) are about £59 I think.

She has her current wedding dress styles and prices on the website and they are different to the normal ones in terms of patterns and some of them are done in different materials. Like LMB says they are all halter necks but she has recently brought out a dress called 'Grace' and that has short sleeves but still a circle skirt.

Just double check their sizing as they are different to the high street.

    Hope that helps
    X

I emailed the bay seller last night and they replied that they can make the sleeves 3/4 length and have the dress in ivory with a champagne coloured sash
Now I need to get saving some pennies!! xx

There was a VOH wedding dress for sale on the bay recently i think, not sure what the size was but could be worth looking and/or keeping an eye out for any more.

I got the newsletter from VOH today and they have a 10% code at the moment, to do with mothers day, but you can buy whatever you so that doesnt really matter - so could be worth signing up (you can do it on the website).

They dont have discount codes alot but every now and then through the year they will do, or have an event that if you go to the store you could get money off - the store is in north london but always a fun experience.

I'll get signing up for a newsletter and keep my peepers open on the bay too. I live in south east london so I might just have to pop to the other side of the river one day and have a nosey around the shop! xx

LMB, I think I am going to go with your link and get a dress from them
I've been studyng them, quite intently for the last hour or so lol and now I am boss eyed! I have my big brown peepers on 2 dresses, C245 and C268 - to me they look identical but am guessing they are different as they are 2 different item numbers ... can you help? Am not sure about the neckline though ..... am thinking of either one of those dresses with a neckline similar to 1303 but with longer sleeves ??
