Question...... Do you have to have separate things for this tradition? Can I get away with my silver sixpence in my shoe also being my something old AND borrowed? Or does that not count?
CommentAuthorKath2010
I think you have to have a seperate item for each.x

I think it's separate things. Mine are as follows:
My shoes are something old - given to me by our friend who got married last September My dress is something new My mum is lending me a lace handkerchief as my something borrowed My jewlery is my something blue, to go with our colours.

Dammit! My sister has let me borrow some earrings for my 2nd holes, but I think they'll look a bit OTT next to my drop earrings! So I need to find another something borrowed and something old! Panic!
I haven't got my something old yet My something new is my dress/outfit Haven't got something borrowed yet And my shoes and jewelry are blue!
I also have a sixpence for my shoes!
Got married 27th June and blessed on July 5th 2012
Finally Mrs M :3
Love, love... Here we are.

As its a bit of fun I think you can do it anyway you want as long as it fits the rhyme. I plan on doubling up on some of my items. I just feel its more efficient that way. Hehe!
The fact that not everybody knows the whole rhyme (ie the silver sixpence part) shows that it doesnt need to be followed to the letter.
CommentAuthorleah
id not heard of the silver sixpence part, is that part of thr rhyme lol xx

Something old Something new something borrowed something blue and a silver sixpence in her left shoe.
I believe thats how it goes.

I struggled with old/borrowed so am putting a lovely brooch of my moms at the top of my bouquet stem in the middle of an organza bow. That will be doubled up.

Just found this!
Something Old - Represents the link back to the brides family and her old life.
Somthing New - signifies the couple beginning a new life together aswell as good fortune and success.
Somthing Borrowed - reminds the bride that family and friends will always be there. It also passes on good luck.
Something Blue - symbolises fidelity, love, loyalty and purity.
And a lucky sixpence for your shoe - this is a good luck charm that signifies love, wealth and good luck within the couples married life together.
To me that says that they have to be something different and you cant use one thing to represent two! Hope this helps!

There are lots of places on the net that you can get a sixpence:-
I think the rhyme is something like:- "Something old, Something new, Something borrowed, Something blue and a silver Sixpence for her shoe."
Not sure someone has to give you the sixpence, but you can always ask someone to buy one for you!!
My friend wanted something more contemporary and found this place that did wedding sixpences.
*********** She chose the bracelet, as she was too keen on putting it in her shoe!
EDIT sorry hun no links in the forum please read our rule thread above thanks mods

I'm thinking of making a bracelet too for my new, old, borrowed, blue and the sixpence, but will have to wait and see - plenty of other options I can go for if not though as;
old - some jewellery new - dress blue - engagement ring borrowed - sixpence
