Thanks ladies, someone on the May 2013 thread mentioned signature and I suddenly panicked and realised I just haven't got a new signature and only have 11 days to the wedding! Then thought what if I have to have a new signature and put on the spot then scribbled some rubbish!
Ol MrsDeaton2b, that's so cute! I dare not do it just in case h2b didn't propose then after he did just been so busy with other things just not thought about a new signature x

Brilliant question - hadn't thought about it before and would've been in a tizz as I sat to do it :-)

First time I did my signature as a Mrs was when I went to the bank to change my name - 12 days after our wedding LOL! I never practised. I think I'm a bit weird. But yes, to confirm, you do sign in your maiden name x

h2b and I have lived together over 30 years and I've never once practiced signing with his name. In fact it's actually something I think will feel so weird, using a different name after all these years.

i didn't practice my new signature at all and I only use the last part fo his surname for signing as he has a double barrelled name I haven't changed any details with the bank or credit card company so have to remember which name to sign at the moment lol. Had my other married name for nearly 30 years so I have to think when I sign now lol
CommentAuthorGlitterfairy
They will also ask you how you will be signing it, like what initials will you use. I used to use both my name and middle name initial and last name in my old signature.

You sign your maiden name. I've been married before and had to sign my maiden name and they write next to it what you have written i.e. if you sign with initial of your first name, initial of your middle name and then maiden surname, they will write exactly what you have signed. xxx
CommentAuthornatalie2614
Maiden name - and they remind you right before you sign anyway. Apparently you're not married until its signed. My first new signature was 8 days after we married and that was my bank :) xx

Interesting but useless fact of the day from me...legally, you can sign whatever the heck you want. If you wanted your signature to be a smiley face, then so long as you always sign it in the same way, then that's your signature, end of. Therefore, in theory, if you changed your name when you got married but kept signing your maiden name, then that would be OK. I only know this as when I went to the bank specifically to change my name, I signed in my maiden name first, and then I realised as I was handing the form over and tried to get it back. That's when the lady in the bank said it wouldn't have mattered, I would just need to remember that my signature hadn't actually changed! She did, however, give me a new form :)

Little Kettle: I guess that makes sense - when I was into family history things lots of the really old marriage certificates had X as a signature - guess not being able to write doesn't mean you can't legally be married
CommentAuthorLittle Kettle

Wow, I never expected such a great response, interesting that it's bad luck to practice before you're married, glad I haven't played with it yet now! I will wait til after we're married before giving it a go.

You can sign with your maiden name on anything even when you're married, as you don't have to change your name if you don't want. When signing the register after the ceremony though, you do have to sign with your maiden name and not your new name (as it's your maiden name on the marriage certificate).
