Getting stressed out! I have four bridesmaids...two of my friends(1 of whom is my moh) and then h2b's two sisters. My two friends have been really easy with any dress I've shown them, in fact my moh even said 'I'll wear whatever you choose' but I'm being really easygoing and want them to want to wear what is picked so trying to give them and me 50/50 choice on which dress it is! Now the rant: Yes,my friends like all the choices but h2b's two sisters couldn't be more blooming awkward if they tried! One style one of them loved, the other hated...and now the most recent one I really like..I don't think either of them like! (A bit like the twobirds multiway dress) They want to go to a bridal shop and try some on but I've already been there and none are rustic enough, they are all very formal typical bridesmaid dresses! I don't think they realise the cost of them either (roughly £200 a dress!) the budget I'm looking at is around £80-100 a dress, even less if I can find a decent one!
How am I gonna broach this without causing a major scene?

It's a tough one cos I think this too, especially cos of the cost of the dress...I guess if ur paying then u should have more of a say,if they're paying then maybe u should leave the choice to them?x

I actually think you should go shopping with them hun. One of my bridesmaids said she wouldn't wear a halter neck dress, but when we went shopping the dress we liked the most was a halter neck one! I think until they have tried some on and seen what suits them all then you (and them) wont really know what suits. Plus, maybe they just want that day of shopping for dresses, and when they have done it and it all seems a bit more real to them maybe they will be more open to other suggestions you have? You could always make a day of it and have you and all 4 of them go and try on some dresses in bridal shops as well as on the high street (there may be some more rustic type dresses here!) and it will be good for all the BM's to be together for a day and get to know each other better too :) Just because you are going out for them to try on dresses for the day doesn't mean you have to buy any of the ones that you see xxx

The type I want I can only find online tho that's the problem! They were gonna be paying themselves but now I'm buying them and they are paying for their own hair, makeup(if they want it doing) and accessories,as they were gonna be pretty similar in price if I had the budget of dress I want, £200 per dress is way out of the price range!

Before you go shopping I'd sit them down and tell them exactly what it is your wanting and how much your able to spend. Then throughout the day you can compromise if needs be, but at least they know where your coming from when you begin. X
I have 4 bridesmaids, (2 friends, 2 sisters), and as I'm paying for the dresses I told them that it would be my choice!! I picked the dresses up in a sale and they all liked them! So, I guess I'm lucky. Maybe do a day out shopping and see whats around that you all can agree on or just go all bridezilla on them the dress you want them to wear lol :-) x
CommentAuthor*KelBel*
I don't wanna be a bridezilla! :-( I've even said they can tell the hairdresser how they want their own hair...cos I really don't mind as long as its not like mine x

I also wanted my bridesmaids to like the dresses i picked but as one of my friends said there's always one that's not going to really like what you suggest so as i'm paying for them I've gone with one i like but meet's some of the requirements they want (maxi dress, can wear again) so I went on to bay of e and found a one size dress (my bm range from 8 to 18 so this allows for them to lose/gain weight) that's lovely and you can wear with a belt and i'm going with that, going shopping to try on dresses of the same style dress you have chosen is an idea though xx
it's been a long hard road, but hopefully we're getting
somewhere :) xx

KEL!!!! Ya know I'd say tough $h!t!!! If I'm the one paying, they do not get a choice! And if anyone's gonna say "well they wanna look nice and feel comfortable" well your not gonna make look hideous for your day r u?
Go with your choice, your decision, your day....

Lot's of good advice. You're paying for it so in the end you get to choose. I like the multiway ones as they can be made to suit anyone. Lady Gaga wore one as a bm and if they're good enough for her...
CommentAuthor*KelBel*
Lmc they are multiway dresses so u can change the straps about 15 different ways..strapless,one shoulder, two shoulder, twisty, the list goes on,.... Thought they'd be perfect because boob wise they're all very different so thought they'd be able to find the style of strap they wanted that could support and flatter them x

I think you should get them to try them on. My sister's bridesmaid dress is very similar to that and it's so flattering, it looks great on. I bet they'd change their minds once they tried them on?

I don't see a problem, I think multiway dresses are a great idea!
Tbh we went to a 'proper' bridesmaid dress shop and they all seemed to be that sticky satiny type material and they can be very unflattering.
You need to be frank with them - they might just not have a clue how much things cost.
If they are the dresses you want, then they wear them, end of. If you are happy to keep looking, set them the budget and point out that bridesmaid dress stores are way ott in terms of price and it's not the look you're going for.

in fact those dresses do the very opposite to showing lumps and bumps! i am a size 18 and have a bumpy lumpy tum and NEVER wear dressed but i had no choice recently for a dinner and dance and after seeing about them on here i thought id try it i had the straps done so the back was higher (also suffer back fat pmsl) and it skimmed off my hips hid my hideous tum and i had so many comments about how lovely it was!!! made my night and i will definately wear it again i am working my socks of to lose the weight so might have a go at a lower style soon :) i must have been more bridezilla than i realised as i bought my 2 bm's dresses without saying a word as i was soooo excited about them , my sister is one of the bm's does not do dresses and if she had to do a dress she would ask for short and fitted wellll i did fitted as the top is corseted as she has big boobs and a tiny waist so it pulls in in all the right places but its floor length but like she said its what i wanted so she tried it on i cried she looked amazing and now she loves it! the other bm is my daughter and she does as shes told lol the fact is if you are paying you can choose and anyway they dont know til they try they may love them despite what they think before hand! how many of us ended up doing the same with the wedding dress dreamt of a certain type then found we looked betterin one we would normally have not considered! hope you can talk them round hun xxx
One BIG day will lead to lots of little happy days !!

I love love love that dress - the colour is beautiful.
I agree with the others - if you're paying for it then it's your choice. Its not like you'd ever put them in something that would be awful eh..
CommentAuthorMrsWade2B
KelBel I have been exactly the same as you....Wanted all my BMs to be comfortable so let them choose the style of neckline they each wanted (We went for Kelsey Rose dresses) and have told them they can have their hair and makeup however they like as long as the hair isnt like mine and the makeup isnt clubby or too stark.
And guess what....nothing I can do is right - 2 bridesmaids even tried to get me to change the theme colours cos they thought a different shade would suit them better!!!!! :O ....you give people an inch and they take a mile.
In the end I got quite firm with them and now it is all sorted and everybody loves their dresses and thinks the shade is really flattering for everybody!! (I SAID THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE GRRR!)
Just put your foot down and go for what you want. Those dresses you picked are gorgeous and I blooming wish id seen them before now!!!! :D
