I ordered my dress in early April, and was told it would take about 6 Months. They said they'd call me when it arrived.

it's been 7 Months, so I phoned the shop today to ask when they expect it in.......

It's been in for several weeks!
I asked why they didn't call me, as I really want to try it on. (The sample was about 4 or 5 sizes too big).

I'm really upset and angry as they told me that I can't try it on until I'm due my fitting, in April next year! They gave me some rubbish about stretching and discolouring the material if I try it on too many times.

I explained that I will be visiting on my next day off work, as I have not seen the dress in my size, and if they have a problem, I will be collecting the dress and take my alterations and veil purchase elsewhere.

The answer: You won't be able to see the dress, we'll call you when you are due for your first fitting, we don't keep them in the shop, they are in a holding warehouse!

I expected better customer service from a shop in Hatton Garden, it would seem that they have my money, and think they dictate that I have to wait a year from ordering to see my dress, they can think again.

Omg, such a terrible service. Call them, tell them that you don`t care where the dress is, ask them to bring it to the shop and collect it! I`ve never heard of such thing before!

Damn right about taking your alterations and veil elsewhere. That's so rude and unprofessional - how dare they just assume you will be using them and that they can dictate when and how you see your dress!

Very rude of them for not even letting you know.. that is just courtesy! And then telling you that you can't see it until next April.. really rude and terrible customer service!! Like said above, it's rude to even assume that you will be using them for alterations etc.. it's YOUR dress and you are paying for it, so you can do with it what you please! Now that they've acted this way, I would definitely demand to at least see it as I wouldn't trust them. At least once you see it with your own eyes you will feel happier knowing what it's like and that it is actually there x

I won't be able to settle now until I've seen it.

I think I'll be storing it at my dads, rather than at the shop.
As soon as I've got my hands on it, I'll be whisking it away, never to do any more business with the shop... anyone recommend me somewhere for alterations in London???

Watch this space, I spoke to the shop manager who has agreed to let me see it, I asked for an email from her stating that.

I think the threat of bad online reviews and not having alterations/buying the veil may have worked.
Although my moh (sister) also called them stating she was from a well known newspaper (which she actually is, although she's an analyst).

    For sole attention of manager,

On 3rd Nov i called to inquire as to when i could expect my wedding dress to be in your possession. i was informed that you have in fact had my dress for several weeks while failing to inform me of this.

i expressed my desire to come and try the dress on to which i was told that i couldn't until April 2015.

As there are no monies outstanding in payment of my wedding dress you have no right in with holding it from me and there- fore i will be arriving at your shop on ( insert date ) and will expect my dress to be there waiting for me to take.
If my dress is not there i will contact trading standards as you will be in breach of contract under both the Sale of goods Act and the supply of goods and services act .

I look forward to hearing from you

Dreadful customer service! I ordered my dress in May and had a phone call a couple of weeks ago to say that it's ready. They've told me that I will have a pre-fit so I can try it again and play around with accessories etc (and find out how good a christmas I can have!). They said they won't do any pinning etc until my first fitting.

I would collect it and take it elsewhere for alterations etc.

Hmm that is odd. I was told by my dress shop that I could go in and try as many times as I wanted no matter how busy they were they always fitted me in. You never know if you're gonna fluctuate and just like u said ur sample was 4 sizes too big... You definitely don't get a true feel for a dress until you try it in your size. Go with the letter, they can't withhold what's yours x

I would definitely take it elsewhere for extra work even if they do 'let' you see it! I wouldn't have any trust and faith in them anymore!

I would be going there to collect it, and take it home. It's not their decision to make if it's your property. (if you have paid fully for it). Have any alterations done where you like. I had my dress at home, and took it to an alterations shop a couple of months before the day

That is absolutely dreadful. They should at the very least have called you to tell you that it had arrived. I really wouldn't be happy about a dress not being on site either. I would want to know how secure the warehouse is and how good the conditions are. I bought the sample from the shop, and it was stored in the shop until it was time for alterations to be done. I was then able to arrange fittings at my own convenience, and the first one was earlier than they would normally do so that my bridesmaids who were travelling for the hen do that weekend could come.

Glad the manager said you can see at least but I would certainly be taking it home with you and arranging somewhere to store it whether it's at your dads/friends house etc.i think they need a good telling though to get their 'procedures' changed! That is completely unacceptable...

You have paid for your dress in full and without a valid reason they have no right to withold your dress from you..

they probably didnt have your dress by the time and thats why they were playing you about.

but the draft letter carla wrote is exactly what you need to send to them...

they have no reason to hold onto your dress unless you specifically request... youve paid it is yours and you should be in a position to try it on whenever, what if you lose weight... it would have to be altered accordingly..

so i would go down there and demand you have your dress...

    Nonsense

They've said I can go in and try it on, but only since I called several times yesterday and quite harshly pointed out that I own the dress.

I'm Baffled, I thought it was perfectly normal to be able to try the dress on (in my size) and play around with accessories like veils, and make sure the underwear I bought is right for the style.
It's a deep v neck so I bought a plunge bra and matching knickers.

As soon as I can arrange a day off work I'll go and try it. Hopefully I can pics to show you. So far I've only got the one on a model

Wow that is truly awful - the service, not the dress. Your dress is stunning.

I would be doing exactly what the others have suggested, picking up the dress and taking your business elsewhere.
My dress shop have said I can go back in an try the sample dress on as often as I like until my dress arrives next month. Then I can go in and try on my dress in the correct size but the first actual fitting with a seamstress present won't be for a few months after that.

That is shocking. I ordered my dress in November last year for my wedding in July 2016. I contacted the shop about a month ago to ask how much longer my dress would be stating that I paid my deposit like every other bride and wile I appreciated that my wedding was still quite a way off that I felt my £400.00 was no less important than the bride who was getting married this year who had ordered at the same time. Also given that I had initially been overcharged by £55.00 for my dress i had actually paid much more than those bride who had only paid their 50% deposits. As it turned out my dress was in the delivery that weekend and i tried it on the following week and it is perfect. The store is holding the gown until the week before the wedding and the service has been great. This is the service that all brides should be receiving. Be sure to make this point to your store when you contact them but I would make a point of taking your dress away as I would be reluctant to trust my gown with a company like this xx

I agree with everyone else, demand to take your dress away. You have paid for it, it belongs to you and you don't want the stress of having to go through this again later down the line! It will be much more convenient to find a seamstress to make any adjustments you need than the palava of dealing with these people. Threaten bad reviews and legal action to get your dress and then I would be tempted to leave bad reviews anyway. You shouldn't have had to go through this!!

I'm going to take it away, just have to organise a day off work to get there first.
The shops in central London and I'm just on the outskirts near Borehamwood.

I only chose the shop because it stocked the dress I fell in love with, but I've noticed it's already got some really bad reviews online.
Looks like they even changed the shops name to get away from the bad publicity.

I'll post the shops name on my wall, so others can search the reviews...wish I'd seen them before I bought there, I'd have looked for another stockist!

First of all, your dress is gorgeous!! I don't blame you for wanting to try it on asap!
Secondly, that customer service is absolutely shocking, I can't believe that even after you said you would take your alterations and veil purchase elsewhere that they still are dictating to you when you can and can't see your dress. I would ask them for a partial refund if they are still refusing to let you see it until April and just explain that if there is any discolouration or stretching of the material then it is not their issue as you are the one that wanted to try it on, and if there is any of those issues then the material is clearly not of that great a quality. If they refuse the refund I would ask them to hand over your dress (if you have already paid for it) and that you will not be recommending them to anybody in the future xx

all i wanted was to try the dress on for reassurance and to show my sister as i picked the dress on my own and just wanted to share my experience
