For anyone who has read my previous posts you'll know by now i am totally confused about the type of food that we want at our wedding reception. To save on money and to step away from the 'traditional' way of doing things we have decided against a sit down meal. Instead we are getting married at 3pm with 20 of our closest friends and family and then going on to the reception venue to have drinks on our own before the rest of the guests (around 70) arrive around 6.30pm.
I originally wanted something away from the normal party buffet but with our venue being quite strict (can't use their kitchen to cook, can't have a hog roast, can't have a BBQ etc etc) we are either having to opt for them doing the catering for us or doing the catering ourselves with us then having to pay £50 for the privilege of storing our food in their fridges..
I have had a look on M&S and Waitrose websites and together they do some excellent party food platters. Has anyone used these before and do you think it would be an efficient way of doing things? Would be grateful for some additional ideas also. I know Iceland and places like that do some excellent food which is cheap, but the last thing i want to have to do it spend the day before and the morning of my wedding up to my eyes in it in the kitchen!
Thanks x

Ive had the m&s platters before so yummy! & been to a wedding where my friend had them too, From what i remember everyone love the food and kept asking were they home made :) The other option is getting an outside catering company in to do the food (If your allowed) x

We are allowed to do that hun but the venue want to be in direct contact with the caterers and tbh it'll probably work out cheaper to do it ourselves.. I really wish that i had known all this stuff about the venue before we had put our deposit down. So much red tape involved. NOTE to everyone else, make sure you know all the details before paying a deposit!!!

Thats abit of a pain! You could have get a group of friends together and have a 'Baking or making day' And buy the bits to do it.
Did you pay much of a deposit? The other mad option would be to change your venue but then you would lose your deposit. Have to be so carefull with things like this im glad to read all terms and conditions and worked out cost all in writting before we payed anything.x

We had the sainsburys platters for my Granddads 50th last Oct and Costco for my sisters 16th both were yummy. Depends what your guests will eat though I know my grandparents and his parents won't eat "any of that foreign muck". I would definitely go for the sandwich etc platter instead of Iceland. You don't want to spend all day cooking.
One thing though don't believe them on their serving sizes one tray = 10 people definatly not in my family.

We've considered getting the m&s platters for our evening food, good to hear that they are good. Am tempted to get some now to try them out. xx

Have you tried any local cateers too? We wernt to a christening recently and they used a local supplier and sandwiches, etc were lovely. They also tend to be really fresh as go on recomendation and service more than MandS would as want repeat business. They also bulk brought 100 samasoes and spring rolls from a local indian supplier and they were cheap and gourgues !! Nice change from sandwiches or a good extra xxx

Hi, I'd go for the M+S selection and present it like a tea party. It's lovely, memorable and a bit different. One bride and groom we catered for made their meal a "mad hatter's tea party". It was great.
