I know it's a tough one to laugh off when it's you it's happening to, I could have been done for murder 1 when MIL started looking at dresses, I thank my lucky stars that my FIL realises just how important this is to me and Ross and that he's tactful and diplomatic enough to gently point out that she'd have looked like an idiot. I think they forget that it could turn out to be a major embarassment to their sons because they're so hellbent on making their new daughter in law look paltry in comparison. Sadly though there isn't a person on the planet who can outdo the bride on her wedding day, so you've got no worries on that score. All she's going to achieve is leaving a lasting imprint in people's minds that she's some tacky old sla pper who's best efforts were getting her t its out - quite sad really, have to pity the poor woman to some degree ;)
I think what it is is that MIL has been the only woman in H2Bs life for so long and suddenly there's another woman to 'share the spotlight' with and some mad instinct kicks in and it's like "Look at me, I'm just as good, if not better than her"

If your H2B has already mentioned the outfit situation to her then the best thing you can do is ease her mind that you're not trying to take her precious baby boy away from her, that there is no competition for his affections and she really doesn't need to go over the top with things - then leave it at that. IF she does turn up in bacofoil with everything her mama gave her on show all you need do is feel desperately sorry for the mad old trout.

I can totally understand where you are coming from..My MIL2B has worn white to all her other children's weddings & I have informed Adam if she wears it to ours (the same one mind) that I will not be a happy bunny.

I don't mind a nice suit or dress with some white to it but not all white, it's supposed to be the bride & groom's day not the day where others try to out do you!

Adam is the youngest boy & as I'm from here & he's Canadian she is finding it even harder I think as some foreign girl is taking him away from her & she keeps on insisting we need to know each other much longer before we marry.

We have however stuck to our guns & told her, it's what we want, end of.

But I forsee a lot of problems in the days to come, as I fly back to Adam on August 17th, so be prepared for major rants from me LOL.

Have you sent your invites out btw? You could put into it that you would porefer wedding party to wear neutral colours..so when she shows up in her silver gear people will just shake their heads & think there goes that sad lady trying to upstage the bride LOL.

lol im so glad my weddings done and dusted,just do what i did,tell her that if she turns up wearing that colour you wont be inviting her to join in the photographs!!!!,it worked for me
