A few months ago someone mentioned to me that she has a secret money stash so she could treat her family to a holiday. So got me thinking and I started a secret wedding pot. I try and put money in when I can afford too whether its a £10 here or £1 there. It has been SOOOO hard not telling my h2b or even my mum lol. But I want to keep it a surprise as long as I can. So one day I can say here's £...... Towards our wedding. So thought I'd write this discussion as thought might be something you ladies might be interested in. As I know how hard it is to save with partners as household things usually drop up. This way I just act like the money doesn't exist to stop me taking money out of it. So far I have saved up £226 :) can't wait to surprise my h2b when the time comes xx

I dont have a secret stash as such but once the weddings over im starting one of those teramuni pots for a baby. Each time I get a £2 it will go in, and h2b will do the same. hopefully by the time we come to have a baby there will be a nice pot for us.

I have a secret stash of wedding "accessories" we'll call them ha!
They are at my mums house. Every now and again if I see something I like for our wedding and can afford it I'll order it and have it delivered to my mums house. Not massive things but lil things like scatter crystals, candles - that kinda thing!
Then on the wedding day I can just give to them to the wedding venue who said they will accessorise everything for us and h2b wud just be like "wow look at this room it looks so nice" lol - thats what i hope will happen anyways haha x

    Happily Married! :) xxx

We have a £2 pot too which not sure what its for yet. And a water container for loose change, but wanted the wedding stash so I won't feel bad spending the money on the wedding. The wedding accessories is a great idea, we well I have decided to collect little bits as often as I can, so as we get closer to wedding its just big stuff to sort. I've decided on invites I want but gotta buy all the bits To make them, so that will be early buy and stuff like that but the secret money will proberly go towards caterers or whatever we decide. I'd like to have £1000 or more before telling OH x

I do it with my tips jar from work. I'm terrible for dipping in for my lunch though, so I picked up one of the pots that you have to open with a tin-opener. It's over half full in 4 months.

I started a secret stash in January. I had my son's 21st birthday in august and my Mum, son, H2B and myself went up to Loch Lomond last week for the 2nd anniversary of my Dad's passing. The tin has paid for my Sons £300 birthday present, paid for my share of our trip and it's just paid half towards my H2B's wedding ring :) I am keep going to put money in, like you say £10 here or £1 there, its come in so handy. My H2B doesn't know that I'm carrying on saving in it so it will be a nice surprise for him when I can give him it the day before the wedding as a help towards our honeymoon spends xx

i did this when we first got engaged and was sorting out budgets etc and just kept throwing money into a pot and left it alone by the time came that we had chosen our date and venue i'd saved £700 and that paid for the deposit of the venue, chair cover and DJ I was pleased. I do it now but then spend it on things i want for the wedding e.g bridesmaid gifts, little special extras i want or things to go in the present box for H2B xx

It's not a secret stash but we do have a pot, I bought the other half a pot for Xmas last year that adds up the contents as you put it in! So we are using this as a way of extra saving, we have been doing it for 3 months and we have £300 so not doin too bad! It's a really good idea as you don't miss the small change!! Xx

My daughter bought me a pot a few Christmases ago so i started to save £2 coins in it. I couldnt bear the thought of smashing it when it was full - its pink and sparkly - so when i have run out of cash i managed to slide some out - totally defeats the object of saving but does coem in handy !!! - i then got one from a friend last year so made that one into a wedding fund and put any spare £1 coins / notes in that. Needless to say i am very tempted to try and get some of that out but have resisted ... so far... Hopefully i can manage to at least fill that one. I gave one to my H2b daughter when she got engaged that has "wedding fund" on it plus a £2 coin to start her off as think its a lovely way to save. :) x

We got bought 2 terramundi (sp?) pots as engagements presents, 1 each... so now we have made it into a competition as to who can fill theirs first. H2B's feels heavier at the moment although I have been sneaking a few notes into mine. Everytime we get a £2 coin it goes into the pot.

Now just need to decide what to spend it on... thinking rings?? xx

I had a little stash before getting engaged..... I was saving for a new car, but H2B was pleasantly surprised when I told him I could pay deposit and first payment for the venue. It just means I have got into the mindset of saving regularly which I previously struggled with!!

We also have a coppers pot that my OH regularly puts his coppers and 5p/10p/20p in, you'd be suprised how quickly that adds up. If I am feeling a bit poor, I chuck it all in a plastic bag and take it to the supermarket and chuck it in one of those counting machines. Regularly I walk away with more than £50 x x
