I went to an evening wedding reception last night, I was really looking forward to it as I've not been to a wedding in ages! ( wanted to be nosey lol ) It was a bloke my h2b works with ... OMG! I don't want to sound nasty but it was a bit rubbish :/ No one danced, the bride looked like someone had walked in and peed on her shoes, the food was dry, the DJ played crap music, and by 10.30 everything was being wrapped up and put away!!! I was really disappointed, and realised the things I need to do to make my evening reception alot more fun! :) anyone else been to a crap do lately? x

Awwwwww bless and you mean you didnt get up and start a conga? shame on you lol but ty you have remeined me that we really must reply to H2b cousin and say we cant come to her evening do
Tiggs, I was so glad we went because I realised that you need to put quite a bit of effort in to make it good! I must admit the bride and groom didn't dance much and just looked abit miserable really. I think my family and friends are up for it though as previous weddings have been great that I've been to with them! :)
went to my cousins wedding last september and it was very odd. i felt really bad. hardly anyone turned up and nobody danced. but the reception was in the local sports club and decoration consisted of paper table covers and streamers. there was a hog roast and a few bits of salad. her wedding cake was a big millies cookie. it was like a bad school disco not a wedding.

bobby ... there wasn't even a cake at the one we went to last night, and just a few daffodils in small vases on the tables and green & yellow balloons ... it looked really bare :/ it was in a social club with a nice sized room ( not massive ) but it still looked empty and just not like a wedding reception if you know what I mean? x

i think thats one reason im glad we have kids going (only 9),,the girls love dancing and they drag everyone up to dance lol
CommentAuthorMrs fairytale
have been to a couple that just really didnt feel like wedding receptions, i think they are what u make them. at the end of the day if u are going to walk around with a fac like a wet weekend then no one else is going to have fun, i dont have to worry about people not dancing coz i know i will be so every one else will get their arses up and dance lol xx
cant wait to renew my vows, love my hubby sssssooooo much xx
CommentAuthorCupCake
Thats true Tiggs ... I've got quite a small room and was worried it would be cramped for al the guests, but I'm kinda glad it's not gonna look empty now with no atmosphere! x

Hails I might get some DJ request forms made, pop them on the tables and guests can write down what they would like to dance to! no excuses then for bums on chairs pmsl ... x

Easy way to get people dancing .......tell those that are sat down they have to buy the drinks for all who are dancing !!!!
I am going to tell my close friends beforehand that they have to dance at the start to get people going. It has not been a problem with other weddings with my friends and family so fingers crossed. It's another reason I am laying on plenty of booze!!

Blerdy hell, i cant imagine a miserable wedding do!
I've been to a few where it was all fur coat and no knickers, but im hoping mine will be a blast! We went to see the band that are playing at our do last night and they were LOUD and truly rocked!!
There's around 200 people coming to ours - most of them bikers, so i think i know its gonna be one to remember lol

am not too worried about the reception, in fact I was worried it would just turn into one big family party (as usual lol) but Ive accepted that, it may just happen! My family like to embrace parties and give it their all lol. Lots of drinking and dancing and singing and hugging....cant wait!
CommentAuthormrsmada
i wnet 2 one about 18 months ago and it woz a bit like that. they invited loads of ppl and hardly anyone turned up. ther wer more ppl ther for the reception than the evening do, even the brides parents went home. but they had put food on for loads of ppl which must hav cost a fortune and ther woz loads left. thats the one thing that worries me, wot if no-one turns up, but i can asure u all that as soon as the music starts, Lisa wil b on the dancefloor LOL xx
CommentAuthorCupCake
Kesha that sounds perfect hun, my family and friends are alot like that, especially as I'm an 'older' bride, I've not got anything to live up to, everyone knows me really well too, so they know I want the day to be lots of fun! x

I went to one in a castle a couple of years back where there was a he-she, a punch up and the couple had their first dance to... THE THEME TO THE A-TEAM. Was very bizarre!!!

Wow! This has made me realise that I need to spend a bit more time thinking about the evening do!

Cupcake my DJ provides his cards and on the back it has a request form, maybe your DJ will do something similar! I am dreading the evening reception of mine, the only reason being that we are getting married in the middle of nowhere about half an hour away from where we live so I am wondering how many people will make the effort! I have started giving the invitations out and those that I have had back can all make it so fingers crossed arghhhhh! My H2B is a real party animal and so are all our friends so im sure we will be ok x x x

not to worried about people not dancing (my dad's a dancer - northern soul, he likes his boogie) and at my aunt's wedding the dance floor wasnt full, it was empty a few times, but my families more the sit around telling stories and have a laugh kind! but cant imagine everyone not having the best time ever - never thrown a party yet where everyone didnt go from having laughed and drank themselves ill and dont see my wedding being any diffferent! :)
CommentAuthorJulie
Yeah i'm worried too that there will be a lack of atmosphere and people dancing, we've got a band playing and around 96 people invited to the evening do. We're not putting on a free bar (cant afford too) hope its not a flop. One thing for sure though is that I will be dancing and dragging up my dancing diva girles up with me x

We're only having a small wedding (20 of us) and a meal in a restaurant afterwards (so no music) - then for the evening we're in the hotel bar - but the manager did say he can 'crank the music up' and there's a late licence at the bar. Guests have mentioned dancing but we haven't really given it much thought. Maybe we should now...
CommentAuthorKizzy81
CupCake - can you give us a point by point list of what was wrong, so we know what NOT to do?!? <<< Worried now!!!
CommentAuthorCupCake
ok Kizzy here goes .... 1) I could smell toilets when we arrived.... 2) the balloons at the door were burgandy and cream ... when we got in they were bottle green and yellow! 3) the room wasn't decorated enough... just seemed bare :/ 4) the bride & groom sat with faces like smacked backsides 5) 3 small children and 4 bridesmaids danced .... to barbie girl and other cheesey songs lol 6) the buffet was far too big, as they got married at 4pm and must have catered for like 100 guests ( there was about 60 ) 7) The buffet was dry and looked like it had been out ages :/ 8) the whole evening ended about 10.30 when a man with a black bin liner came round to collect the paper plates 9) It lacked atmosphere .... Phew ,,,, :)

i went to a wedding and the evening reception wasn't good, the tables got set up when more people came, some had centre pieces on others had 1 tea light some had 8 tealights on, there wasn't enough seats and no one was dancing
