my H2B and I are just back from our caterer as we were choosing our menus. When we got to the buffet section, we noticed that they do a 'scottish buffet' which is basically rolls and sausage, bacon, egg etc instead of the usual sandwiches and quiche. If you were a guest at a wedding and they had hot rolls for their buffet how would you react? As we are thinking about having them as they are a lot cheaper than the usual buffet option.
Thanks x

We're having bacon rolls and potato wedges in the evening for our reception buffet and everyone who I've mentioned it to love the idea. They are being filled up with canapes and a 3 course meal during the day and then a good bacon roll to soak up some alcohol in the evening. You cant go wrong with it in my opinion x

We had sausage, bacon and cheese sandwiches for our evening buffet. Cheese for the vegetarians, and separate sausages and bacon because I don't like bacon. They were very popular ... so much that I didn't get one!

We're planning WELL in advance!!
im pleased that all your guests seem happy with it. We are really tempted to go for it as it would save us about £300. What are you all planning to serve if there are any vegetarians? As we have no clue lol x

We are (hopefully) getting married at a venue by Loch Lomond and they have confirmed that they can alter my package from finger buffet in evening to Square Sausage or Bacon Rolls.
Normally the first then I do when i get back home to Glasgow is have a roll n square sausage and a glass bottle of Irn Bru so it will keep me happy! Wonder if they will allow we a crate of Irn Bru lol
Working on a 3 dream plan for the next 5 years!

Erm..... just veggie sandwiches... just something simple like cheese and tomato. Or if you were going for hot option you can get cheese and onion slices (like sausage rolls) xxx

We went to a wedding in June that had them and they went down really well, so much so that we decided to go for them rather than have the hog roast (will also save us a huge fortune as well). There are chips on the side and veggie skewers for the veggies as well xx
CommentAuthorbecky -mrs firth
awww teh hog roasts r good! and if u have veggies the hog roast van also makes jacket potatos

We can't decide weather to have a 2 course sit down meal with our cake as dessert for the breakfast or a chinese buffet or a hog roast all with our cake as dessert. Then we are only having bacon rolls and mini chip cones for our evening food so I say go for it :-)
we also have a sweet/dessert buffet for the evening!

We're having a 3 course meal and then 'square sausage' rolls (Scottish thing) and bacon rolls in the evening and after reading this potato wedges might be added to :) xxxx

Janetx71 we should totally have can's of Irn Bru!!!!!!!! Lol what a fab idea!
TBH We have only got 30 max extra evening guests.... My work colleages and the rest of H2B's squadron so the bacon roll option is perfect for what we're looking for. If we were having more guests in the evening I agree we'd probably need more munchies.... I'm hoping there will be sweets left on the sweetie table too! Lol xxxx

Most evening buffets are served about an hour after the evening guests are due to arrive anyway! Ive never been to a wedding where the evening buffet is already out when I get there??

I think bacon rolls are more than enough even if you are just an evening guest. Most people have a bite to eat before they leave to go to the reception, well most people I know do anyway. I think it's quite rude to go to an evening do and expecting food so they'd be happy with whatever they got. If they were still hungry there is a thing called a bar that often sell peanuts and crisps ;-)

for the eve we are doing bacon and sausage rolls with chips. its the cheaper option at £4 per person. i think a lot of people are going for this option =-]

CommentAuthorlaurab-gtobe
we're seriously considering this option...not a fan on "traditional" buffets. me and h2b are caterers (not doing our own wedding though!!) and have a wedding in april next year who are having this for evening reception. x
CommentAuthorMrsMcleish2B
Hi Laura,
Have you got any other ideas for evening food coz I'm not 100% decided on the bacon/sausage roll option. I've only got an extra 30 evening guests (making 90 total) so didnt think a traditional buffet would work and just be wasted xxx
Wedding Day - 16th June 2012
CommentAuthorCheryl22
yes any other ideas for the buffet would be great, as my mum says not everyone will want something heavy to eat at that time as most will either have had canapes and a 4 course meal at the wedding, or have not long finished their dinner before heading to the evening reception. So having a buffet where they can pick and choose may be a better option.
Still got a bit of time before anything is set is stone, thanks for the replies. x

one of my friends was serving roast pork or turkey sarnies and chips for their evening do and they were fantastic although one of rys cousins had sausage or bacon rolls and chips but didnt think about the veggies and one of them didnt even know if she could eat the chips cos of the meat fat? whether they had been cooked in veg oil or something x but as long as you have a veggie option its a great idea!!
i cannot wait to marry my best friend
i love you ry!!!
