Really pee'd off with the registry office! We rang up to arrange our venue which we hadn't quite decided on until we viewed them last weekend but now we'd decided, we wanted to confirm. She tells us that she doesn't know how it happened but we should never have been given a 12.45pm slot as they don't do that so it must have been one of their apprentices getting and I quote 'enthusiastic and excited'!! I mean COME ON, it's an important thing not just booking a hair appointment or something!! Anyway she then goes on to say, were you made aware that you have to pay more money for such and such a venue which we had already temporarily booked to which of course we said no, we didn't which means we can't afford our venue and will now just have to get married at a normal registry office with parents, grandparents and our best man who has the rings..... To say we are hacked off is an understatement but surely this is basic stuff? To top it off though, she's told us that we'll need to let her know what time we want as we will have to change it to either 12pm or 1pm because of THEIR mistake and we have to pay the admin fee for this!! Grrrrr!!

We are too Little Kettle.... So frustrating because we don't have money to throw away, granted it's only £10 but when you have less than that to live on a week, it is! They are saying that because we now have to change our venue :( then we still should pay... It's literally so they can print out and send a new updated letter and as we all know, it doesn't cost £10 to do that!!

So sorry to hear hun :(

I also agree the admin fee (and some other fee's) should be waved due to their mistakes.

That's ridiculous, if you have confirmation from them for 1245 I would definitely query the admin fee as the mistake lies firmly with them. Really they should be waiving the admin fee as a gesture of goodwill anyway. I'm not sure if the other costs are within their control,(i think if you get married at a venue rather than the registry office there are set charges) but I would ask to speak to a senior and explain the situation.

That's such a shame, if you have written confirmation of the timing then I would refused to pay the amount few as it's their mistake. X

Thats stupid, You should write to the head of department and complain about this, Im taking it this is Devon County Council? They are bloody useless, Tell them they have totaly ruined your wedding plans and your day, that you were told it was this , which I think is technically a verbal contract as you had already paid for deposit. If they still refuse, say you will write to the local paper and tell them all about this break in procedure etc

So you have a physical Contract and are being made to change it not out of your choice, its not your fault, You have evidence, aswell as say your word against theirs. Def make a big fuss and complain. A few of my friends work at teignbridge offices and allways complain how lazy and incompetent the staff at DCC are and how they don't scan things into the system its all in files. and for example who 2 staff in this one departments do less work than the 1 member of staff in the same department in there office.

That is awful. They shouldn't make you pay. I would even say they should let you have the venue as you weren't informed correctly. Does this get in the way of you marrying in church?

Brilliant, just rang back and because they also cocked up on something else and will have to send out new paperwork regardless, we don't have to pay the admin fee at all so now we are getting married at the registry office at 12pm! Sorted and although we will have a bit of hanging round, it will give the immediates time to grab some lunch and us a bit of us time for the big kick off at 2pm!

Everyone needs to learn as we were all learning our trade at some point but with something as important as a Wedding you would think their mentor would check bookings. Hopefully they have learnt that now, just frustrating that sadly you guys are the ones that seem to have had to pay for it.

Oh I'm fully FOR people having to learn as we are all beginners once but when you are playing with people's future lives, you'd expect some double-checking to be done especially with an apprentice! When I was a student nurse, I always had a mentor checking I was doing ok and if I was unsure I'd check regardless!

Thank you, means we can have a bit of a lull before the storm as it were when we kick off with everyone at 2pm! Thinking that we'll ask our car/driver to take us to a beauty spot so we can have 'us' time for an hour or so with a picnic or is that a stupid idea?? The thinking is that it will be the only time during the day for us as a couple alone and would be nice to celebrate as well! xx

We're only getting the car journey from the Church to the venue alone and so glad it's an half an hour journey as I don't think we'll have another minute just us two, so make the most of it a picnic would be so romantic as well :)
