    Hey ladies,

i had to pay my doctor another visit this morning for tonsilitis, ive had the same bout since january and have been getting it regularly since i was about 10, maybe younger? anyway the doc said its time for them to come out and ive to go back on the 1st to see about them getting yanked, he said because ill be on priority list it wont take more than 6months wait, normally about 3 or 4. i get married in 4 months! Id put it off again but i really need to get these tonsils out coz theyre no good. so if push comes to shove im going to be a scabby bride :( has anyone here had there tonsils out? if so how bad is it?x

I had my tonsils out at 18 was really painful and took me about 2 weeks to recover fully, just to warn you everyone will say you'llget to eat loads of ice cream! so not true you wont feel like eating anything i lost stone and half when i had tonsils out, so make sure you have dress fitting after tonsils are out. also my doc told me i had 6 month wait i only ended up waiting about 7 weeks! good luck!

oh i dont know if this is something you would do but Bupa can take them out for you if you get recommendation from doc they do knock money off of the cost but i dont know how much it would be

it's like the worst bout of tonsillitis. if you can get through that you can get through tonsillectomy!! it's all about eating and drinking normally afterwards and making sure you take regular painkillers! can be done as a daycase

Oh hun im sorry your going through this! Never had the problem myself but with a bit of luck it will be sooner rather than later! The only silver lining is you will probably lose weight but if you don't need to lose any then your right of luck there lol.. I know a few of my friends children that have had them out and they were up and about in no time but it could be different the older we get, fingers crossed it is sorted ASAP for you hun x x

i had mine out when i was 18 as well, not suffered since! i'm an ent nurse(work with kids). no reason why you can't be up and about as quickly as them, just that we as adults expect to be poorly after an op. keep positive, that'll help

I got mine out when i was 11 as one of my tonsils was infected and was hanging dangerously close to my voicebox and was told if I didnt get them out I would lose my voice totally! It was painful initially as felt like someone had scratched my throat badly and you could feel it when swallowing and I was made to eat crisps and hard pears, etc to get used to my throat after the op so no icecream as far as I recall, it proabaly took about a full month to recover totally. x

god the thought of after theyre out makes me shudder, ive heard that the older you are the worse it is, but i think thats coz adults are worse patients than kids. if you think about it kids want to be better so they can run about and play. adults want to stay ill so they can stay off work and get sympathy!x

thats ok glad i can help. they say as an adult its more painful than as a child but no one can really compare as you cant have them taken out twice! But Magsy's right you got to stay positive, and no matter how busy you are do rest for the first few days or you could end up feeling worse later x

I was 6 when I had my tonsils out so I can't really remember the pain. I remember wanting to eat a pink wafer but couldn't swollow it. It might of been because I was young but I recovered really quick, a few days..
I'd say it's definitley worth doing though. xx

    :)
i made my partner have his tonsils out last year cause he snored something wrotten and i wouldnt last 50 odd years of marriage with that! he was in hospital over night, he said it felt weird and spent the next day in bed, but other than learning to swallow again (if he drank beer too fast it came out of his nose!), bad taste in his mouth for a while. and he was 'sore' for about a week after he was fine. His word - it didnt hurt it was sore! ha ha men!
sooner rather than later, cause last thing you want is to be sore on your wedding day!
speak to your gp, maybe they can get you in sooner for the wedding :)

    Hi,
I got my tonsils out on the 2nd of March this year..
Sorry to say but it was the worst thing ever!
If they need to come out they need to come out just make sure you drink plenty of water and keep dosed up on your meds and the two weeks should go better for you.
Ice cream made me feel worse so I practicly just drank water for two weeks... on the plus side I lost a stone and a half through it but its not something I'd ever want to do again put it that way.

Another thing I will say is when I went for my pre op medical and the nurse put the fear of life in me making it all seem worse that what it really was.. making the procedure more scary and lecturing me about having to eat toast before I could even think of going home....this was very untrue. Yes you do have to try and eat something before you go home but the day after your op your not at the worst stage.. 3/4th day in and then its the worse stage.

Mine got infected which made it worse so make sure you drink plenty of water and you'll be back to normal in no time. :) Ooh plus lots of TLC of the H2b or husband.. which ever date it falls on :)

Sorry I couldn't hae given you a more positive answer :(
