    Hi ladies

I've not been on here in a while but am currently having my first proper bride panic!!!

We sent our invites out this morning and I took my friends at work there's in........one of them just said on the off chance, would that send with a first class stamp. I thought nothing of it until I got home and mentioned to OH. We looked on royal mail and it reads as though one first class stamp is not enough!!!!!

The invites are only 30g and standard greeting card size but its the thickness - first class is meant to e a max of 5mm thick and because of the ribbon knot at one point on the envelope it is 10mm :( :'(

Looking online it says my guests would prob get a card to say there's something to collect at the post office and there's a fee to pay :( how embarrassing!!!!! I've also read the post office can take a while to deliver the cards.

Have anyone on here? Heard of this /had this happen to themselves........any chance they might all get delivered ok?

I feel so stupid and didn't even think to check dimensions before sending as I was just so excited to get them out.

    :( xx

It depends o the sorting office, sometimes they might let it go through otherwise you get a note through the door asking you too pay the different plus a £1 handling fee and have to go to the post office to do it. Xxx

I've had this before with Birthday and Christmas cards. It can be really annoying though as sometimes it is only and extra 10 or 20p and then you get charged £1.20 because of the handling charge! Don't worry though, your guests will still get them, they may just have to pay a little bit! xx

I'm sure they will :) Maybe wait until someone you posted it to has theirs and see if they have to pay. If they do then maybe give the others you sent them to a call and apologise and let them know that if they get a note from royal mail that is what it is so could they please go and get them from the post office. If certain people get funny about it then you can always offer to reimburse them what they have to pay to get it? xxx

Yeah my sister said that, if ppl begrudge paying a small fee maybe they shouldn't be invited but its just the embarrassment factor!!

Have my bm of post duty tomorrow to let me know what arrives! Fingers crossed :-)

Some ppl might think it's junk mail and won't collect it...I've had to collect before and it was bulbs sent from an energy company so unless they know they are expecting something they may not bother... My friend received a Xmas card returned to her the other day because our other friend didn't collect the card before Xmas ...it was a £1 fee for not enough postage plus the extra for what the postage should have been, so I think about £1.88 total ... The fact my friend didn't receive the card back from Royal Mail for three months makes me want to tell u to be wary!x

    Oh no!!!

Kelbel, I think if I don't hear back tomorrow that they have arrived I will call everyone and explain and say sorry. Least like you say they know what it is.

I did read online. As a "make light of the situation" type thing, you could put a bowl of coins out at the wedding with a little sign reimbursements, or something along those lines.....could have pennies and chocolate coins lol xxx

Id probably let people know if i could, as kelbel says, if you dont know what it is and you know you havent ordered anything then you are less inclined to go as it does tend to be something stupid like energy saving lightbulbs. Or in my case, a bleedin' catalogue.

A quick fb update/text/email should do the trick :)

people would expec it of me because Im a bit thick like that, so Id just make a joke of it to try to deflect some of the cringe factor!

I had this panic too. I took the bulk of my cards to the main post office and the assistant told me regular 1st class for them, so posted all and thought nothing of it.
A few weeks later h2b went to post a couple of extra invites at local post office and they told him exactly the same as yours, that the ribbon bow made the envelope too thick at that point so charged extra postage.

I had so many late replies I went into a panic that they hadnt received invites but all but one told me they received fine.

Awww Laura :-( that's rubbish ! The lady at my post office said the measuring things are a little bigger than stated so you may be ok ? I send letters through work with folded invoices in and they usually way thicker than 5mm and always get there so I wouldn't worry unless someone mentions getting a collect card xxx

I had this happen to me too, with some invitations to a party, the invites weren't even over the limit, but some idiot at the sorting office decided they were. It took a while for them to arrive and each of the people got a card through door to say there was a fee to pay. They should get there okay hun, just I would prior warn your guests, because I found that some people didn't want to bother collecting as they weren't expecting anything and there was a fee to pay, so just to make you aware that could happen xxx
