So during our wedding reception we will be doing a traditional greek money dance (H2b is Greek) and I need to write a poem to pop in the invites to let guests know this will be happening, and kind of explain it to the non greek guests, but for the life of me I cannot come up with one or find one online anywhere! But, I know that there are a few of you on here who are fab at this so can someone please help me? It needs to include:
- The fact that the money dance is going to happen and it is a Greek tradition (also that it will take place of gift giving) and is done to help to set the couple up in their future life together.
- That it will begin when me and h2b dance holding a handkerchief, and then money is to be pinned on our outfits or can be made into crowns/sashes, it is up to the guests.
- The fact that if guests don't want to participate then they dont have to, and that there will be fake money for those who want to have a go, but not give money.
- That any other gifts will be welcome, but that what we really want is them there enjoying our day with us.
- And that there will be a wishing well in which they can write their name on an envelope and pop it in there so that we can thank them later (as we wont remember who has pinned money to us if not!)
Thank you in advance for any suggestions, this has been driving me crazy! lol xxx

what about something like this hun x
I know the gift of giving, is a wedding day tradition. but on this day we wed, we'll do a dance instead.
in the greek traditional way, hubbys hankerchief will sway. money is then pinned to us, but for each guest its not a must.
if a gift is brought instead, no tears from us will be shed. all that matters most is that your there, on our wedding day in which you'll share.

Ok I've tweaked it slightly and this is what I have come up with, does it still sound ok?
We know the gift of giving, is a wedding day tradition, but on this day we wed, we will do a money dance instead.
In the Greek traditional way, a handkerchief we will sway, this is the sign to pin money to us, but for each guest this is not a must.
Place a signed card in the wishing well, so that of your participation we can tell, then we can send a thank you a short time later, when we have the time to put pen to paper.
If the pinning money is something you hate, then please feel free not to participate, if a gift is what you bring instead, then no tears from us will be shed.
No gift or money is expected from you, so come and join in and have a dance too, what matters most is that you are there, on our wedding day in which you'll share.

That's a good one brilly, here is mums anyway :)
We ask you to celebrate our special day In a very unusual but traditional way
On the day we become husband and wife To become united, to start a new life
So to begin our new life we have a wish We hope you respect it, here it is,
To show our rejoice we shall dance We hope you will join in when given the chance
A handkerchief waved by a very proud groom A happy bride you can also assume
It is then that we ask that you pin money to our clothes In true Greek style as any Greek person knows
This would replace any present you'd buy We thank you in advance we hope you will try
But if a gift you prefer then we are happy to accept Along with your good wishes for a day of respect
So come along and enjoy a wonderful day In true Greek traditional way
Xxx
