Aww so lovley to speak to a fellow forces girl!! what exactly do u have to do with a guard of honour? i live 6 hours away from where my finace is based so don't really get to see a lot of what goes on and have never been to a forces wedding so am pretty clueless to that side of things!! xx

We only had a small one (2 guys) and they stood outside the church with their swords raised and so we came out under them. I'll upload some photos tomorrow.

aww thanks that would be great :-) i have seen a few photos of one but didn't know how complicated they were and if they needed to be done at an official military wedding venue (if there is such a thing lol!) would be a fab thing to do though!!
You can do it whereever! Officially you have to ask the COs permission.

Could you decorate with flags and pick up those colours in your theme? Also I think there is quite a lot of military style music (Don't the marines have their own band?) that would be suitable for weddings, especially for parts like the processional. If you're having a church ceremony or blessing then "I Vow To Thee My Country" is a lovely hymn to use. Even if you aren't, perhaps you have somebody sing it to open the reception?
If you are so inclined, perhaps having a collection or small fundraising event like a raffle to support one of the military charities would also be a nice gesture.

Hi, Im an army wife to be and my fiance and best man are both wearing their uniform for the wedding. We are having a guard of honor outside of the church, and we have having Jerusalem and I vow to thee my country as our hymns (both quite patriotic we think) we are having the reception in a hotel which was the sqn mess of the dambusters (not on purpose, it is just a hotel near to my future in laws house and it has lovely grounds that we fell in love with, just happens to have the military link. We're also having quite a british theme (kind of english country garden) and I was thinking of getting union jack bunting. We're also cutting the cake with a ceremonial sword. I've seen some "Keep Calm and Carry on" invites which I love but I've already ordered different invites :-( but I think they are really good to fit in with the military theme.

Hello there.
Just thought I'd add my two-penneth. If the best man is military - which is likely - then he can find out which of the guests are military and what Corps/Regts/Bns they belong to. Each Corps/Regt/Bn has their own piece of music which are sometimes played at Mess dinners etc. What he can then do is during the reception and by way of saying thankyou and as a bit of entertainment, ask the military guests to stand for a toast when their regimental piece of music is played. Usually someone fails to recognise their one which can be quite amusing and lead to various jibes. As long as the best man has it all written down it can work really well. Its really a nice way to pay particular attention to the military. You may also like to have a toast for 'Absent Friends' but thats usually a given so will probably happen anyway. The best man can also sort out your guard of honour as well.
Hope that helps. Have a wonderful day!

Hi MrsC2B, I found a page today with a few military wedding accessories, so I posted the link on your wall so you could have a look. Just bumping this thread so that anyone else who was interested could look too! I don't think anyone will actually want to buy from the site, it looks quite pricey and it is American so I think the emblems and uniforms will be wrong, but it might be useful for someone for ideas on how to work the theme!

Im not an Army wife but iswhere I used to work close to Catterick Garrison so I did alot of Army Weddings. One couple actually met there and she played the bugle so they had alot of bugle music throughout their ceremony. They also had thier regiments colours if that helps xxx
