The hat thread got me thinking.....would you be happy if people came to your wedding ceremony and reception in jeans? A mutual friend asked another friend if her husband come come to her wedding in jeans as he did not have any dress trousers...she was more polite than I would have been!

I think black or dark blue jeans can look quite smart, especially when worn with a shirt. Better than those awful cargo pants! I can't think of anyone who would turn up to my wedding in jeans to be honest, especially as smart trousers can be bought really cheap from your local supermarket. I might be a bit miffed if they turned up in scruffy poorly fitted jeans, would look like they couldn't be bothered to make the effort.

hell no .........no excuse any bloke can get a pair of trousers for under £20
I have one of my guests coming in shorts and a T shirt as he has a condition that makes him very hot all the time but even then he said he is going to get some smart shorts and a polo T shirt so he still looks dressed. I would say wanting to wear Jeans at a wedding is just a little disrespectful and it wouldn't hurt them to wear trousers for one day.

Evening = yes Day= prefer trousers, but tbh on the day I'm not sure I would have noticed someone wearing a mickey mouse suit.
But I did notice the guest in the mankini.

I think for just the evening do a smart pair of jeans would be fine, but not really for the ceremony. Saying that i have no idea what a lot of the men at my wedding will be coming in considering they are riding their bikes lol

no jeans to a wedding .....i agree that jeans can look smart with a shirt but that would be for a nice BBq or even a casual party .....but not a wedding ....i would refuse to let anyone in wearing jeans thier lack of effort would be a reflection of what they thought of us .
Thats what I said to my friend....you can get mens trousers less than a tenner!!! He just looked ridiculous on the photos and even the photographer was sending him round the back of the group shot ha ha. My friends aunt, uncle and 2 cousins all turned up in jeans to his wedding...so rude and disrespectful! Now cargo pants...thats another one Nini!

I wouldnt want people to turn up wearing jeans to be honest, i think sometimes black trousers are not neccessary - wedding abroads etc but when my wedding is i will expect nothing less than my guests wearing black/suit trousers.

I went to a wedding a few years ago, and i was shocked to see the grooms cousin bought his girlfreind and no word of a lie, she was wearing a white vest top, with denim hot pants and black sandals and big hoop earings. She looked great for a day at the beach maybe but awful for a wedding and the couple in question were ever so offended!

I think it depends on what type of wedding you're having, for instance it would look ok at a garden tea party, but would look out of place in a posh hotel. Personally I think it's a good excuse to get dressed up (I never seem to have any reason for getting dressed up anymore) and I would definitely not want anyone to wear jeans to my wedding. You can get a pair of plain black trousers from Tesco for a little under £6 and then it doesn't matter if they get ruined or never worn again.
And how in the world does a person get to being a grown up and NOT own a pair of trousers? Even if they're just for weddings and funerals?!?

My friend got married a few years ago, a really chilled out wedding said people could wear what they wanted but only one girl turned up in denim shorts and a vest everyone else got dressed up poor thing looked like she felt uncomfortable all day xx
CommentAuthormcewan07
lol roseyB i only have jeans in my wardrobe ( and now a wedding dress) its the only thing i feel comfy in - i hate skirts, etc. So if i was going to a wedding i wouldn't have anything to wear, so it is quite easy growing up without owning a pair of trousers, though i probably would try and find a nice pair of cheap trousers from somewhere

i would expect people to dresss up and i think, people who go to a wedding feel obliged to dress smart. if im invited to a wedding, i dresss up and i feel i must in a way because of the style of the occasion, so i cant imagine y anyone else wouldnt feel the same! some people jjust like to look scruffy hahaha leave them be i guess......xxx
CommentAuthorUnknown
i want people to get dressed up at my wedding as i love to get dressed up!
you can get smart jeans and they can look nice but you can get such cheap trousers now i would be annoyed if people did wear them on my day xx
CommentAuthormym72
As long as they're not the jeans where they're showing the crack of their a*** then I'm not bothered. Dark jeans with a shirt look dressy - and tbh I'll be happy that they've made the effort to attend our wedding, no matter what they wear (after all they're all travelling about 130 miles to the wedding anyway lol).
If I'd have had my way I'd have been happy to wear jeans myself, and just head down to the registry office with a couple of witnesses - but hey the things you do for family and parents lol...
CommentAuthorHalloween_Bride
no no no no no!!! the reason for my choice of guests not wearing them because when it was my grannies funeral my cousins h2b came to the funeral in jeans & a tshirt which tbh is pretty disrespectful imo & has put me off people wearing jeans in a church

I think if you are invited to a formal ceremony be it a wedding, funeral, christening etc then jeans are not acceptable unless stated. Although we had a halloween wedding and most guests dressed up we did stipulate that folk could come in their jeans and t-shirts (the majority were bikers and we wanted them to feel as comfortabel as poss), but i do think its downright rude to turn up anywhere for a special occasion in jeans.

I must admit when I went to the ex's funeral last year I dressed formally, and so did our son - but the majority did wear jeans and t shirts - but that was because he was a big Leeds fan and so the funeral was done on that theme (and tbh no one whatever they were dressed in looked out of place).
Some jeans do look scruffy though - usually the light coloured ones and the 'jeggings' (yuk how chavvy is that??? lol) - but I suppose it's how each person perceives looking 'dressy'. Dark coloured jeans with a dressy shirt isn't that bad (and could even be better on some people than a suit). After all what's worse - someone in dark jeans and a shirt and looking good - or someone putting on a suit and looking a mess (after all suits don't look good on everyone).
CommentAuthorJane
As long as people are there, and they are comfortable they can wear what they like to our wedding, I'm only worried about what the bridal party look like for the photos!
CommentAuthorTrish Goddard
I agree Jean should NOT be worn to the wedding or reception.. But dont see why they cant wear them for the evening.... Black jeans are quite nice with a white shirt...
CommentAuthorMaggielou
My brother told me he was wearing a shirt, without a tie & no jacket cos his doesn't fit anymore. I understand the jacket, but b4 I had time to comment I heard his wife shout that he most definitely will be wearing a tie....saved me the discussion!! No jeans, even the tightest budget could stretch to chavsta or a charity shop?
