Reviving my long-neglected account to ask this!
I have a date set (yay) for 14th May 2015; which is obviously a fair way off. I know the exact dresses I want for my bridesmaids, and the dresses have been well-received by the girls I've shown them to.
The issue is that the dresses have been out of production for a while, but because theyre bridesmaids dresses they do pop up on a particular auction website relatively often. I've let a few really fantastic bargains pass me by, and now I'm thinking I might as well just buy them as I see them; especially with that particular auction site as I have no way of knowing when another dress will become available. So leaving it late seems like a bad idea, but is buying the dresses this early an equally poor plan?
Advice please? All my BMs are around my age (18-22) and all similar sizes.
    Thanks <3 xx

No, it's not too early. I bought mine this September with 19 months to go because I couldn't resist the bargain price and couldn't guarantee I'd get them nearer to the time. If they all like them and they're within budget don't hesitate. It's just one less thing to worry about nearer to the time!! And also the longer you leave it the less chance you have of getting them because they'll have already been sold on!!
    Get them!! Xx

If you're 100% you won't change your mind about the dresses and your bridesmaids won't put on/lose lots of weight, then yeah go for it! Do you have pictures of the dress? My bridesmaids are a similar age to yours and I'm struggling to find something I really like! Would be interested to see what other younger brides are using :)

I cant post a photo Shannon, but they're the 'Debenhams Debut light pink rose front' dresses. Hoping for two maxi and three short, but I'll take what I can get!
And Laura you've basically just confirmed what I was thinking. Think I'll go for them! Thanks :D xx

I bought my bridesmaid dresses from the same store for my child bridesmaids I just got them to try them on n bought the size up as it was a year early. Hoping they all fit but they can be altered if not. I fell in love with the dresses and they were in the sale so really didnt want to miss out on a bargain. X x

Hiya my wedding is April 2015 and I bought all 4 of my bmaid dresses in September just gone. I also have my dress already as I got it so cheap when I went to Florida.

My bmaid dresses were discontinued H&M dresses that I tracked down on the bay and gumtree. I found 2 x 12's and 2 x 8's and they worked out about £30 a dress. I figured even if I did change my mind I could just sell them on and I wouldnt lose much money.

Just put them away and dont think about them again until 6 months before the wedding. I boxed my wedding dress and bmaids up in a special storgae box and my mum has them at her house so im not tempted to peek!

I'm getting married 7th March 2015 and I'm starting to look at BM dresses now... I've 4 BM now, as my H2B wants both his brother as well as my brother for ushers. I really need so help on this... all my BM are over 40 years old and varying sizes & heights. I'm worried it's going to look ridiculous, I'm struggling to find dresses flattering for all of them. Arggggggh !!! Any that look okay are over £200 and that's well over my budget.

I'm getting married in Sept 2015 and we're going shopping tomorrow. I'm an organisation freak. I want this done and organised by Sept next year so I can just save like mad for a year without suddenly thinking omg I forgot about this and adding additional costs haha. They're just gunna need to stay the same size for 21 months :)

hi, I have been wondering this too, I have seen lots that I like but whenever I have suggested dress shopping to my BMs - all 6 of them who range from 22-51yrs - all say its too early - the older ones say they want to loose weight before getting a dress . I feel like I am stuck in the middle and the bad guy when dresses have been mentioned.. why is it never easy to please everyone ? :(
I am now thinking April time to go shopping but there is one dress in a co & M that I like so maybe after Christmas it will be in the sale as I would love to but them all their dresses. We shall see.

Louisek80 I am an organised freak too. I want everything sorted so I know exactly what needs to be paid and then I don't need to think nearer the time ohh I forgot about this... how much is that going to cost etc. as that would stress me out. I think ive found my cake too. My oh thinks im nuts well he knows im nuts. Im organised with birthdays/Christmas every year so why would my wedding be any different.

I want to go dress shopping now Ive seen a beautiful dress in the style I think I want but obviously need to go try it on and see what it looks like. only problem is is not out until Feb 2014,

Haha we are very alike! I don't have any idea what I want my cake to look like but I do know who I want to make it. I went into her shop and said "Bethy, I want to book you for 2015, I don't know anything else about what I want I just know I want you to make it" She thought I was bonkers...

I've been dress shopping 3 times already and after Bridesmaid shopping tomorrow we're going to another dress shop. I'm lucky with the dress because my mum is buying it for me so I can take my time with that because I don't need to budget for that.

That should say cake maker lol although I do know roughtly what I would like. I meet the lady at a fayre and she does a carrot cake sponge which H2B would love im going to go and do a cake tasting with her after new year I want different flavours of sponge. Another lady I was thinking about going with has booking in for 2016 for cakes.

I don't think its too early to get anything organised. We have only been engaged over a month and the venue is booked :)

Got my dresses a year before and flower girls 6 months before. My bm dresses were £40 each and I just made them try them every few months so if they needed to lose weight there was time to. My flower girl dresses came from bay of e and had only been worn for a couple of hours at a previous wedding and were one size too big, you couldn't tell on the day as the girls had grow a little but they had a tie back so you could pull them in anyway. The only thing I can suggest is that you don't buy shoes til last minute. I bought my bm shoes no problems but flower girls nightmare. Got some that matched there dresses perfectly and bought them one size bigger and they didn't fit as I bought them 6 months before, there mum said it would be fine they will grow in to them as they were both having growth spurts but nooooooooooooo one fit one didn't and I didn't want them not to match so there mum had to go out and buy new shoes the day before

i'm not getting married till july 2015 and i have just bought my bridesmaid dresses i have liked them for the last year and they had a gr8 sale on where i got all 3 sample dresses for £100 and the other 4 i am getting 20% off it was an offer i cudnt let slip by i have just ordered a size bigger than they are measuring to allow for weight issues as its easier to make a garment smaller than try and make it bigger. if it is what you want i would go ahead and order them. xx

I'm sure it's fine to get them early as long as you're sure they will fit in 18 months time and you're not going to change your mind on style or colour in that time xx

I wish i could convince my H2B that 18months WILL go quick and its NOT to early to start planning things..especially now weve just found out my cousin has suddenly decided to get married the same year :(
He has however given me a good compromise...an engagemment party...!
what he doesnt know is that ive found the style of dress i want and BM dresses, & cake!

Im in a similar position, ive seen some dresses that i really like, same colour and design just different cut. My one bridesmaid is my best friend who is in her 50's so i know she wont change too much but im worried bout my oh sister. She is 14 and is still growing. She is very slim, around a size 4/6. so i don't know what to do. I could buy a larger size for her or just wait...but until i know the colour of my bridesmaid dresses I feel i cant plan anything else for my wedding.

My oh proposed in March this year-my dress was brought in April!! I have a moh and 3 young bridesmaids,I saw the moh dress,it's perfect, flattering maxi style dress,in our colour scheme,in her size and was the only 1 left,in the beginning of July and kept umming and ahhring about whether to buy it with a year to go to the wedding (and she was 4 months pregnant) we had a discussion and she's adament she will b in that dress for July (even tho the baby not been born yet) so I brought the dress :) she has also said that if there's no way she can get in it,then she will buy a new dress and doesn't expect me to contribute as it was her final decision about me buying it!! And if that's the case I have a new beautiful dress :) my little bridesmaids dresses were brought end of July and what sizes they were in I've gone up a size!! Ie my daughter who was 8 at the time I purchased them was in age 9-10 clothes-so I brought the age 10-11 :) x
