H2b recently lost his job so we have had to make some cut backs on our wedding. What I've been thinking about to help cut costs a little bit is remove the deserts from our menu and replace them with our wedding cake. Our cake is 3 tier, one chocolate, one Victoria sponge and one traditional wedding cake, do you girls think this idea would be acceptable? Or is it cheap and tasteless? PLEASE BE HONEST WITH ME!!!!!!

I think its a great idea! Everyone likes cake!
I am now Mrs Stacey Stiles and loving it!
CommentAuthorRoseyB
I think that's just fine, I've been to a few weddings when the cake is desert. I enjoyed it. Cake is the best kind of desert speech the choccy variety xx
CommentAuthorLiiga
I will probbably have a cake as a dessert. Cake is a dessert after all. Dont even think i would need any other sweet stuff....
CommentAuthorMrs fairytale
that sounds fine hun, alot of venues do do this, u do get charged for plating the cake up normal, so before cutting your dessert i would find out how much difference it would make, that and if youor venue even does it, as i know ours doesnt coz they have had some cakes that they have used for dessert and they have been moldy xx
cant wait to renew my vows, love my hubby sssssooooo much xx
I think its a great idea! At least that way you'll have no-one moaning they didnt get a slice of cake lol

Thanks for the feedback ladies, I will definitely give it further thought now - H2b had just said if we do decide on this then we are having all chocolate cake - that alone is making me even more tempted :P Chocolate cake is one of my major downfalls lol :)

I think it's a great idea.. after all, you're probably going to be spending quite a bit of money on your wedding cake. How annoying would it be if it just goes to waste and there are lots of leftovers that you'll have to throw. I think I shall do the same :D

Theres nothing wrong with giving wedding cake out for pudding, my friends wedding last year had a set pudding and then they gave out cake we couldn't eat it infact hardly anyone ate it and there was no box given or anything to put it in so people just picked and left it x
CommentAuthorXLittleMissMe!X
Hmmmm maybe I ought to get some boxes then? We have a set three course meal so I was going to serve the cake with the buffet but like you say if they are full after all that eating and they can't take it home its a bit pants. I'm now off to search for some cheap cake boxes!

We are doing this as well having our wedding cake as dessert, works out cheaper and the guests actually get to eat it. Like you we are also having 3 flavours so ppl have a choice :-)
Also have personilised cake bags (works out cheaper then boxes and are just as nice) so if they want to take some home they can and i will put some aside for the evening guests as well!

I think it's quite common for this to be the case, it saves alot on cake wastage I guess. I only have 35 guests in the day so I'll be serving them individual cakes - to match the larger cake - in the lounge area with coffees after the meal, not massive ones, but just so they have a piece. We've also got a magician attending too so I'm hoping for a nice relaxed time after the meal/speeches. I'll be saving my cake for the 150+ on the evening and cutting that after the buffet so those that want a piece can have.

No that's perfectly acceptable. We had a debate between ourselves as to when we were going to serve cake, but since there is no sweet option on our buffet we decided to put it out then
Now, finally, Mrs Riley

You can get some nice cake boxes from land of £1 if you have one near you 10 in a box I got some tuxedo ones and some bride dress ones x
CommentAuthorJane
Its what we are going to do as well, adding puddings to the evening buffet would have been another £2.50 per head and for 75 people that adds up to quite a lot! And as we've spent £290 on a wedding cake that is big enough to sink a ship we might as well get people eating that instead!
CommentAuthorKatkin
I think this is what we are going to do too to keep the cost down :-) I am really worried people will be hungry and there won't be enough food lol
CommentAuthorjoey86
Definitely sounds like a good idea! We're planning on doing the same! But am thinking just having lots of little fairy cakes as a wedding cake - my friend had that at her wedding - they had them all on a cake stand and had a small-ish sponge cake that they cut and kept for themselves.

youve all helped wih my question too!!!

Totally acceptable. I've often seen it mentioned as a money saving idea - and in a way it's quite nice - how many times have people been to weddings where you've eaten all the food, and *then* the wedding cake comes out and you've got no room for it, so it goes to waste. For the effort that goes into wedding cakes, they really should be eaten :-)
