So i fancy doing something different but also need to save money somewhere. I have had an idea and it will be perfect for me but not sure if its ok to do. I have thought me and my partner can have the very basic registry office wedding so its very cheap n then pay to have the ceremony at our venue (which will only be an extra 100) but have a friend or member of the family perform a ceremony. So abit like a reenactment. Can someone please tell me if this is ok to do please.

That would be perfectly fine. The legal side of it would already have been taken care of when you go to the registry office so anything after that is more symbolic and can be done however you like. Where do you live? Because if you live in Scotland you can have a Humanist wedding (which is what I am having) which can be done however you like, it still requires an officiate to preside but you can have family involved and it's all completely legal and no need to visit registrars on the day.
If you live in England however you have to have a registrar wedding in advance of the symbolic one.

I agree with Victoria, If you wanted at the venue you most likely would not have to pay the £100 either as that is normally a charge for using the civil licence for the legal ceremony but if you have already done that then you don't need it.

That would be fine because you would already have been legally married at the reg office. I second what Lana said about the £100 though. X

Thanyou girls!!! I live in kent Victoria but that does sound good :) i thought it would be as we would already be married. The venue i have is not a package i am paying 300 for room hire but they offer use of another room for a ceremony for the extra 100 so 400 for everything im happy to pay as its within budget :)

I've been to a wedding where they did that. They went to the registry office on the Saturday, then on the Sunday had a Christian wedding in a garden led by a friend who was a trainee pastor.
30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.

totally "legal" we got married in america and had another ceremony when we got home to which we invited all family etc.
as you 2nd ceremony has no legal standing you can have anyone do it and hold it anywhere you like ( little kettle had on in a park )
Thankyou. I thought as much just wanted to check as id not heard of anyone doing it here. I know in America alot of people do it and its legal but i also knew its not the same over here :/

I photographed a wedding where they went in the morning just them and their parents to have the official ceremony at the registry office, then went home got ready and had the ceremony at the venue. I'm not sure who performed it, I think it was someone from the venue but I thought it was a lovely idea and it meant their ceremony where everyone was there they could do what they wanted as they didn't have the worry of all the legalities.
