Still searching through potential venues... and have found two lovely mansion houses that are actually registry offices so not too expensive for ceremony and i've found a couple of potential venues for reception that aren't too bad either, but i wondered how much i'd have to factor in for costs of transport if i have separate venues? Has anyone else done this? I was thinking a big red bus type thing to take people from the ceremony to the reception, would i need to factor in bussing them back in the evening too? Any thoughts on what transportation etiquette is?! xx

I'm not too sure but i'm in the same boat, i've seen a couple of venue's that i love that are about 45 mins from where i live and i'm thinking of putting on transport for the guests. H2B isn't too keen, he thinks it's too far away :( xx

H2B wanted to do this for our guests from Essex to Watford (45 mins on the motorway) and then to the reception venue. I vetoed it quickly. It takes a lot of organising ensuring people arrive on time and not miss the bus and it's extra cost that we cannot justify.

Your guests will not expect you to provide transport, I've been to lots of weddings where I've had to jump back in my car and drive from the ceremony to reception venue. Just ensure your ushers provide guests with maps.

Also, if you're only doing it from ceremony to reception, how will your guests arrive a the ceremony venue and leave from the reception?

Save yourself some £'s hun and the headache of organising something not really necessary and treat yourself to a more expensive dress xxx

I also thought of doing this as I have elderly guests coming to my wedding who do not drive and I am being married in a village church and then having to go to the recpetion venue after. I came across the problem that people were going to have to get to the ceremony anyway, and then if you put on a bus, when it takes them back it will be back to the church and the ones who don't drive will still have to find a way back to where they live anyway. Also you will find evening guests will decide that they want a lift home on the coach or bus too which will mean that day guests may not be able to get on it. So I came to the conclusion that everyone can make their own way there. The elderly guests who dont drive we will hire a mini bus for from a taxi company so that it can pick them all up from their door and then drop them back off too. If any one else doesnt want to drive they will either have to pay for a taxi or try and get a lift with other guests. Our reception venue also has guests rooms and there is a travel lodge 5 minutes walk down the road, so we will be providing them with these details so if they dont want to drive and want to drink they can book a room for the night and then drive home from the reception venue in the morning xxx

Yeah i see it being a little bit of a nightmare but seeing as all my family will be coming from Bristol, and there will be alot of the wedding party ushers, bridesmaids etc to ferry about between venues anyway i thought it may be more cost effective. Also annoyingly H2B's mother and family don't drive! So figuring that out's going to be a pickle too!! Maybe everyone congregates at the reception venue first, then a bus takes them all to the ceremony and then back to the reception venue?.. Would that work?.. Argh it's not easy to find a venue in my price bracket then i've got to make it work too!! Tut :(

Ours is a bit of a pain but as long as we get everyone moved I'm happy! We live in Motherwell and getting married in Broxburn (my home town) which is 30 miles away. Reception is 2 miles from ceremony so we've got a coach taking guests from Motherwell to Broxburn, then taking all guests (local and from Motherwell) from Broxburn to Uphall (double journey) then taking original guests home at 12:30. It's a pain in the backside but worth it to get everyone about on the day x

We are having our venue 40min drive away from the church, most of the day time guests have booked rooms so that they can stay and have a drink. We have a bus doing 3 pick ups starting from 6pm arriving at the venue by 7.30pm and returning at midnight to take the evening guests back. The cost is roughly £275 which each guest will be charged no more than £7 each which is a lot cheaper than a taxi as this would cost them over £40. We have hired a local bus company but got about 5 quotes before booking the cheapest one x x

Oh that's good sounds like your journey would be much more complicated than mine! I'll have to have a think about it, going to see beautiful grounds tomorrow that are 45 mins away, so it's something to think about! x

we are providing a coach back to the main hotel where we are staying at the end of the evening reception. we are lucky as we have an all in 1 venue for ceremony and reception but the hotel we have chosen for our wedding night is 15-20 mins away. We have said that we will provide a coach but if people want to leave before the end of the night 12.30 they will have to pay for their own taxi's and phone them themselves (Best men will have all the numbers)

If you want to ensure all your guests get where they need to go together then a bus is a good option but most people wont expect transport provided. ( Also how are they getting to the ceremony initially? if they will be driving anyway seems silly leaving cars there and then having to somehow get them back!!)

    xx

I've hired a vintage double decker to ferry my guests about and it's cost us £595, but they are doing two short journeys each way.

We've got a double Decker to take guests from the church to reception, then we noticed a lot of them we booking hotels near each other so we decided to do a collection run to take them to the church as well. They're all getting their own taxis at the end of the night
