I have been thinking a lot about doing this recently. My uncle lost his fight with cancer a few month ago and h2b's aunt has just been told her cancer is terminal.
I have been looking up various charity websites and they do lovely pinsthat would make a nice favour. I quite like this idea as any wedding I have been to before, lots of people end up leaving their favours behind and it just seems like such a waste. I was thinking at least this way people will benefit it even if there are lots left over.

I had a look on the cancer research uk website, they sell pens, wrist bands, trolley tokens and pin badges..... i also bought a selection of bits and bobs from gosh as well. Instead of the usual favours on the tables idea as we are having buffet we are having a favour memory table. On the table we will have a message in a frame saying :
To our friends and loved ones,
A donation has been made to cancer research uk and great ormond street hospital in loving memory of Christine Harvey and Terry Cornwell. Please help yourself to a small token to remember those we love on this, our special day.
Love Ryan and Katie
This is to commemorate my mother who lost her battle to cancer when i was a child and Ryans uncle who sadly passed away last christmas.

we are doing NACC charity favours as my older sister suffers really badly with crohns and colitis and after going through major surgery this year (and another one this coming january) we thought it would be a nice way to pay back the charity that helped her cope with everything that went on. x
There is nothing so sweet in life, as loves young dream!
We're doing Help for Heroes pin badges as h2b is forces and lost quite a few friends especially in the last couple of years and has several friends who are amputees getting funding directly from Help for Heroes. We did think about naming tables after lost friends but didn't want to have a constant reminder through the day so h2b will raise a toast during his speech to our absent friends. x

i love the idea of charity favours but then i read a blog where people ranted about how they didnt appreciate certain charities "forced" upon them. I think its totally ridiculous but it did get me thinking, so we are having an aspect of charity favours.
Myself and h2b are both ex-military so for the kids and babies at our wedding they are having help for heroes teddy bears, just to break up the charity aspect.
I personally think it is a very thoughtful favour idea especially cancer research as it is a charity close to my own heart. x

Some really nice ideas here ladies :-)
After posting this earlier I have now decided I am doing pins from Cancer Research and forget me not seed sticks from Alzheimer Scotland. H2b's Gran suffers withAlzheimers and it would mean a lot to his family as they charity have given them so much support. Plus the seeds are a lovely idea on their own.

I stumbles across some charity favours last night when i was looking for some xmas cards. We are going to have them, pin badges with a personalised card. We are having the charity SHINE (spina bifida and hydrocephalus) We had a baby girl in 2006 who was diagnosed at the 20 week scan of having severe spina bifida and hydrocephalus (water on the brain) Our special daughter was so so poorly......i wont go on as is till find it excruciatingly painful 5 years on BUT we wanted someway of including her in our day and had no idea how we would pull this off without making lots of people upset. THEN i came across these badges and it has made me so happy that it is something that will remind everyone of our darling baby girl. We were not even going to have favours but this is just perfect for us and a great way to thank the charity for all the help and support they provided us when we needed it

we're giving mini pots of homemade jam as favours but we're also giving the cancer research pins as wedding favours, with the message on them, as there are lots of people in my family and adam's who have been affected by cancer xxx

We did cancer research trolley tokens, pink for ladies, blue for men, put them in a purple favour bag to match our theme, with a little card explaining them. Only wedding I've ever known EVERYONE to take their favours :-)
Now Mrs Cobb!!!!!! :-D

We are doing Cancer Research silver badges, with a blue gem on it for the men and a pink one on it for the ladies. The children have something different. My h2b lost both his parents to Cancer, and so it seems right.

Really like the idea of these, we wernt doing favours we were doing a candy bar instead, but a donation to a charity on their behalf would be lovely. I think we would have Help for Heroes as both of us are big supporters

we will be doing a donation, either to Cancer research or the local hospice where H2B's uncle spent his last weeks. Not sure if we will be buying the pins etc, or just giving a donation and putting a sign up on each table explaining what we've done.
Antonia, I can't believe people ranted about having charities forced on them like that? Ok, even I personally get mad when accosted on the street to sign up to charities, but to have a donation made on your behalf is lovely I think.
I think in weddings, it is also a nice way of remembering loved ones who aren't with us any longer x

I am proud to say that i am a breast cancer survivor, and i am thinking about doing something for charity too, to give something back. I think i saw somewhere little pink envelopes for your guests to put money into, they were laid at each table setting, but i am having a bit of a job finding any. Does anyone know where i can find them?
I can resist anything but temptation

I would contact the charity directly and see if you have any joy that way. :-)

oxfam do a version of wedding favours too. you recieve 50 assorted table cards to place around which say what you have donated eg. 'teach a child' or 'safe water for one person'. I really like the idea of charity favours as a lot of other favours wouldnt be appreciated.x

the pin idea is lovely - i've seen charity things before where there was no actual favour, jut a card saying that a donation was made in your name etc... but that sounds like a nice way to combine charity with still giving people a keepsake. will keep that in mind for our own day :)

This is a really wonderful idea - my sister suggested this to me just after I got engaged and I loved it. At least this way there's no wasting money of people leave the favours and the money goes to something so positive xx

We have decided to do charity favours instead of traditional ones. Decided upon donating towards Cancer Research UK and the Alzheimers Society as I have lost family to both. x
