I have been to a fair today in harrogate and I have won a planning party worth £100!

Can't wait to get the details through from her and see what extra ideas I can get.

Also saw loads of things I really liked including a dress designer! Woo hoo!xx

It was big and over whelming. It's £8 to get in but you do get a goody bag, I'v not had a proper look through yet but I have found head and shoulders conditioner?? and some snacky things and a bottle of water. Me & BM went and had a lovely day out, something a bit different. We parked quite a way off but tbh it wasn't that far a walk and it didn't rain for us.

I'm kind of in an eco chic kind of mood atm so I like what I am seeing but trying to work out what I can do for my self. Lots of lovely people to talk to and get ideas from, only a couple that were pushy.

Only paid for petrol, parking and entry, so quite a cheap day out for the 2 of us. I'm guessing we went at the wrong time as it was really busy, but by the time we left it was nice! hey ho.

Going to another tomorrow see how that is.

i got some inside info by an ex-hotel manager who used to go to the wedding fayres.

on the form for entering a competition to win your venue free, there is usually always a bit that asks you if you have booked somewhere else. And when they go through the entries they ALWAYS pick somebody that has booked elsewhere, usually somebody who has booked with their nearest competitor. They do this because they wouldnt get that persons business anyway, and having a big crowd all drinking will always make money in a hotel. So they have nothing to lose. They dont chose somebody that hasnt booked a venue yet, as they may be getting that business anyway.

i tried it once, but it didnt work! lol

I don’t repeat gossip so listen very carefully!!
Started Slimming World - 23/03/2011 - 2 Stone to lose!
    Total Loss = 1 stone 7 lbs.
As at 23/11 - 3 days before the wedding.

Need your advice please. I have emailed the woman who ran the competition and she has replied that she is no longer able to honour her offer and I am wondering where I stand on consumer rights??

Her email reads (edited for anonymous purposes)

"Sorry for the delayed response but I have been pondering what to do . . . I have to apologise but unfortunately I am no longer able to do your Free Planning Party.
I’ve taken on a lot of work recently and I’m really struggling with my time. I am currently re-writing my website and will no longer incorporate Planning Party.
I am sorry Rags but it’s just not going to be feasible I’m afraid."

What should I do?? Do I have rights as a competition winner? Is it worth the effort??

You would be entitled to something up to that value if she has decided not to continue with wedding planning. I would let the wedding fair organisers know though as utimately its their reputation that has been compromised so you may get some freebies as a good will gesture. If it was a raffle where you paid to enter they HAVE to honour the value. I attended a WF on Sunday and bought a raffle ticket and won first prize - its a photography shoot and photos and I promise if that goes pete tong I will complain.
Re her comment about running out of time it may be a blessing in disguise because if she can't plan timings how much help can she be. Wish you luck, please persue it though as you did have a contract with her as she did with the WF organisers.

I saw something like this on TV once. If you have it documented that you have won a party worth £100 from that place they HAVE to honour it or atleast give you something of that value.
It's like winning the lottery and then being told you can't have your winnings!

Carl and I get to the Petwood hotel wedding fair on the 26th of September we had always thought that the prize draws were gimmicks and nobody ever won how wrong we were. We entered both draws one being to win a selection of goodies from Debenhams including a bottle of bubbly , large photo album / photo frame , small photo frame and a ring holder pictures in my album we only entered because I liked the bag they were giving out then the man asked us if we wanted to enter the prize draw to win the above we only did so to shut him up the 2nd prize draw I cant remember what the prizes were but we ended up winning a three course meal for 2 which would normally have cost £25 each could not believe it when we received both letters confirming our wins on the same day.

On the way back from a wedding fayre in Edinburgh last weekend me and my H2B were having a heated discussion over the competitions. I said they have to be rigged cos there's no way they would risk randomly choosing someone to do the hair and make up for or the photography for and then find out the wedding is in Devon or france say. My OH says they have to be fair and random or they wouldn't be allowed to do it. Is he just being naive? They have to be fixed surely! They must go through all the entries and pick people/dates/venues that suit theie timetables or else what if they promise to do your wedding photography but already have a booking on your date? What do you think?
