I am VERY worried about our honeymoon. When we went to Lanzarote I got prickly heat on the last day so that wasnt too bad but when we went to Malta which is similar temps to where we are going in Italy, I got it on the first day.

    How do i avoid it?

I wondered if it happens because of sun cream getting in and blocking the pores? Therefore I thought to get the clear spray ones instead? Will this help? Also I have been told to take piriteze but I have also been told that this can make you act weird. Any advice?

I really do not want to be scratching the whole time on what is supposed to be a romantic honeymoon. I am going to see the docs next week after the wedding but still worried

I always get prickly heat and it's horrible and nothing seems to get rid of mine apart from the cold English weather when I get back but for the last few years I've used piz buin allergy sun cream. It's the only allergy one that has worked for me. It is a bit more expensive but does seem to work. One of my friends is the same and she uses it and it works for her too. If I do start to get it I take an allergy tablet like piriton or piriteze and have never had any problems using that!

You could try using a sun block cream for the first couple of days on the areas you get the prickly heat, it is your skin reacting to the intense rays. Go back to your normal factor after a couple of days once your skin has adapted. Also like Rebecca said, take piriton or piriteze with you incase. x

im not sure of its the sun cream itself that is blocking my pores. I will take some camomile and take some of the piz buin one tho

    Hi Ladies

I used to suffer with it too but since i've started doing this (below) i haven't had it.

1 month exfoliate your skin at least 3 times a week
Drink at least 2 litres of water per day - more in warm weather
Start taking antihistamines 2 weeks before and during you holiday
Buy piz buin suntan cream - do not use oil
Buy an aftersun with Aloe Vera / Aloe Barbadensis as the 1st ingredient not aqua - think hawaiian tropic do one
Should you get it use natural yogurt to take the sting out of it

Dotors will generally tell you to avoid sun - as if !!!

    hope it works xx

I think the clear sprays are awful, they feel like they take your skin off and smell like they have lots of chemicals in them so I wouldnt advise them, the lighter (but still cream) ones may be better though
I would take the antihistamines before you go, if you can get calamine cream you can put it in the fridge (if you have one in the room) and this can help cool your skin more
Try not to stay in the heat too long, try and break it up and go into cooler places with air con

You can get some hydrocortisone cream to take with you but that will only help reduce it once you have it rather than prevent it

There are so many people out there who will tell you
    what you can't do.
What you have to do is turn around and say, "watch me"!!

When it was sunny I didnt want to get any strap marks so I put sun block on (factor 50). That has sparked prickly heat off in me all down my arms and shoulders. I think the cream does block your pores and thats what starts it. I've been taking Benadryl for nearly 2 weeks now and i'm still itchy!!!! ;( xx
