We have a guest list for the evening at approx 220. There will be 100 at the wedding breakfast so an additional 120 in the evening. We know not all of these people may come and it's a way off before ill be getting rsvps etc. But I just wondered if anybody knew how many to cater for at the evening buffet. I've been told to cater for about 85% of final numbers. I don't want to pay for too much food and it be wasted but I want to pay for enough that people aren't thinking there's no food, if that makes sense.

My venue catered for 85% and none was left (in fact I didn't have any at all... ) - in hindsight I would've catered for 90%.. then maybe I would've got some... but definitely not 100%..

I'd say between 75 and 80 percent xx

I'd cater for 100% of the evening guests and 75% for the day guests - which works out to just under 90% with your numbers.

We was told to cater for 70% but every venue differs x

Yeah if you are having a late wedding meal then you might need to cater for as many. I'd say 80% to 90% :)

I must admit, we catered for aprox 75 per cent - it was cutting it a bit fine, thinking about it - there was maybe enough food left for a couple of plates...but out of 120 guests, only 43 were at the wedding breakfast xx

I've been advised to cater my evening buffet for about 75 - 80% of the guests, but they will all be eating a bbq at about 6ish so that's probably why, everyone is attending the whole day rather than having extra attend in the evening x

It always differs I've always catered for what I feel like is 85% but there's usually a fair bit left over :/ ask your venue honestly how generous they are with the catering they will usually be open and honest about this my cateres were and told me to tell them just 80% of my guests but think I'll be telling them 75% as a lot are children x
CommentAuthorNataleeM
my venue said if you do a buffet then you only need to cater for half of your evening guests :S

I would suggest speaking to your venue. Some venues say you have to cater for 100% yet some will allow you to cater for less but normally have a set percentage they will accept lower.

Definitely check with your venue. With ours I think we have to cater for 75-80% of all guests xxx
