I am paying for them, as well as their jewellery and flowers of course. they are just buying their shoes.

Im paying for my bridesmaid dresses, £160 each and having 3. Thought it was unfair to ask them to be my bridesmaids then expect them to pay for their own dresses! My h2b's mum is paying for the mens suits :)
CommentAuthorLittle Kettle
I paid for their dresses (one MoH and one BM) as well as their jewlery, hair etc. But they paid for their shoes. Our FG that we had a for London lives close to her Grandma and she made the dress, providing all material and 'bling' for it, as well as buying the shoes - it was easier for her to do as they are miles away from us and hubby's mum wanted to feel as though she was contributing, so we let her!
We are buying our bridesmaids dresses and hiring the Suits for the best men (he is having four). Our bridesmaids are buying there own shoes x
CommentAuthorKirst
We are buying the BM dresses (from China) and hiring suits for the groom/best man/ushers/FOB. My present to my BMs will be their jewellery and at the moment I am buying shoes for one of them (but this might change!) x x

My two older bridesmaids 21 & 22 (one older than me) are paying for their own. One is ohs sister one is his niece. They are £80 each made to measure. The younger ones £40 ages 8, 10 & 12 the parents are paying for all h2bs neices. We are just paying for our little girls £30.
People don't seem to mind paying for their own these days. The only thing I did was let the older ones choose if they wanted lilac or purple the older wants want purple so the younger are in lilac. they are having oposite flowers to their clothes xx

we WERE going to have 6 bm's and 6 ushers, until weds when we asked them if they would be willing to buy thier own outits. We apologised prufusely for having to make this decisoin AFTER they had agreed to be in the bridal party, but it was either pay for thier ourfits or have our dream venue.
We're now down to 2 bridesmaids! who ARE paying for thier own.
Whenever I was a bm my mother paid too. seems these days they expect the bride and groom (or bride and bride or goroom and groom) to pay for everything!

I don't think there is an issue at all with asking BM's to pay for thier own dresses as long as they are involved in the choosing the price range of the dress. Janie i can't believe you lost 4 BM's because they won't pay for thier own dresses. People nowadays expect everything to be bought for them xx
CommentAuthorTinsel
We've paid for the dresses, their handbags, pashminas and jewellery (their bridesmaids' gift), hair and make-up. We've paid for the ushers' suits, cufflinks and a separate gift.
Only thing we didn't pay for was their shoes; we didn't stipulate which exact shoes they had to wear other than the colour.
For the flowergirl, we paid for the dress, shoes and cardigan plus the gifts and a wand for her to wave!

we did say tot hem they had free range with styles of shoes and dresses if buying thier own, and what price they wanted.
We originally said if we find we can afford them we will buy them nearer the time, but now I feel like not bothering with anyone who dropped out, after all as someone said on another thread, they are more than likely to spend more than that on an outfit!

My mum paid for the BMs dresses, but they are getting their own shoes, and paying for hair and make-up if they want it themselves. As i've told them they can have what they like for this.
Flower girls dress was paid for by her mum, and all her accessories. did offer to pay for these, but her mum insisted.
And grooms mens outfits are being paid for by the best man, as he's lovely like that :)

we are paying for everything for our bm's, the only thing i have asked them to pay for is if they want nail extensions

I am making my bridesmaid dresses but I will be paying for all the materials and then their jewellery will be their thank you present also. Haven't decided about the shoes. But my best friend is getting married next april and she is paying for our dresses also. It seems to be that lately the couple getting married are expected to pay for bridal party outfits. But if the budget wont allow then I dont see any harm in asking them to pay for their own. If they are funny about it tell them you dont expect a wedding present from them if they buy their own outfits xxx

i am paying for my Bms dresses 2 of the pairs of shoes ( out of 3) the bride escorts shirt, tie ,waistcoat and shoes
Thats a point we've told the two older ones and the parents of the younger ones (two sets of parents to the three if that makes sense two bms are sister) that we dont want or expect anything off them as they have allready paid for dresses.
However in the same token we have told EVERYONE we dont want anything other than them to turn up. We've lived together for 4 years so have everything we need. Just the love of our family and their blessing is all we want xx

I have 3 adult Bridesmaids, 2 younger ones and 7 suits. When I asked my older Bridesmaids they automatically offered to pay for there dresses this way they got to choose which ones they wanted as I am on a very tight budget and don't work at the moment. I have made their jewellery for them to wear (gifts for them) and paying for their hairs and making their bouquets as well. My H2b is supposed to be paying for the suits but his Best man has offered also to pay for his so maybe the rest will. We are however paying for all the Bridesmaids rooms so this will compensate them buying their dresses

I think the norm is that if a Bride wants her BMs in one particular style, she pays. But if the bride is happy for the BMs to choose the style/colour/one or more aspects of their dress, then it's ok the ask the BMs to pay. Personally, I want my BMs matching, so I feel it's wrong to ask them to pay for a dress of my choosing.

we just asked the one bm and the usher/grooms men etc to contritube £10 towards there outfits. i have paid for the flowers/buttons holes and the jewllery for the bm will be her gift. everyone is wearing there own shoes

We have paid for our 4 bridesmaid's dresses (£169) and shoes (£17.99) and i will be buying their jewellery but that is also their gift, we have also paid for groomsmen suit hire (£90) but my step dad and FIL have offered to pay for their own, I didnt feel right asking them to be bridesmaids, bestman, ushers etc and then asking them to pay for what we wanted them to wear x
CommentAuthorRaggedyAnne
I really don't like the american custom of more of less demanding they buy this dress for X amount of pounds. I think if its a dress that I want them to wear and they will probably never wear again......then I pay for that. because its MY wedding and I want them to look nice in MY pictures.....the bill for that should be mine too. I have asked that they buy there shoes, but they will get to wear them again no doubt.
I have also bought them a small gift too, nothing majorly expensive, just a silver trinket box as a thank you token.
I can resist anything but temptation

I only have one BM and she has offered to pay for it herself. Which is great cause we're pretty limited with our budget. If I had more money I would have been happy to buy it for her but it's just not possible.

I've paid for my 2 BMs dresses (eBay bargains) and the boys' suits/waistcoats/ties (sale bargains) as I wanted them in particular things but girls are paying for own shoes, accessories etc to personalise dresses how they like and am asking boys to pay for shirts, shoes, cufflinks etc. Think they're all happy with this!

I'm only having 2 BMs, and most of that reason is because we can't really afford any more, I'd never dream of making them pay for dresses that I've picked out for them, sorry! I'm not buying matching shoes for them, because uncomfortable shoes are awful, I'd far prefer them to choose their own in a matching colour, that they can potentially use again.

i agreed to put £50 towards their dresses but as they only cost me £40 each and the shoes £10 each i paid. my mum bought their hair accessories and i've bought their jewellery so they are done.
the flowergirls were originally going to be paid for by my nan but she has since pulled out and gone back on what she said so i managed to get two dresses for £45 for them so i've bought them and their mum is going to buy the shrugs and i will try and get shoes out of my nan but if not i'll have to fork out for them
the groomsmen are all paying for their own apart from the best man who we are paying £50 for as he was complaining that the BM's got this

If they offer though thats great :)

We budgeted to pay for the bridesmaids dresses and suit hire for the boys. I chose a dress color that would go with black shoes so that we didn't have to buy shoes, and they all agreed on the dress and said that they would wear it again. One of our bridesmaids paid for her dress and one offered (but I refused as she was coming from South Africa). We got them necklaces as gifts, but they sorted out other accessories themselves.

I'm paying for the flowergirl dress, as well as the page-boy suit. We're asking the groomsmen to wear a suit they already own as out wedding is very informal, we're just providing them with a tie. As for the bridesmaids, I'm hoping on a simple high street summer dress, so I've told them that they can have £75 each to go towards what they choose to wear, if the dress is under this then it can be spend on shoes. if the dress is over £75, then they are happy to put the rest to it.

We are paying for 3 bridesmaid dresses (already bought) and the groomsmens kilts. I was hoping the girls would help me out with shoes and hair. I am going to try and buy their shoes though if we can find some that they all like in my price range (of £1.50 each hahaha) but they have agreed to pay for their hair trial. I wouldve liked to pay for their hair too but I am so so so skint :-(
