So Saturday I went and found my dream dress - Couldn't be happier :)

The shop I brought it from suggested a double hoop for the dress, which they are prepared to sell me for £55. She told me it wouldn't be worth getting one from anywhere else, as it was a good price, and anything offline would be tat.

I have been on the Bay of E, and seen them for £10 ish. Has anyone any experience with buying these online? I don't want to pay £55 for something that I don't need to, and Im not bothered about what out looks like, as it won't even be seen!

I'm in a similar position. I don't know if my dress needs a hoop or not (I can't tell). I have looked on the bay of E too, and might just chance getting one, as they aren't expensive. I just don't know what shape, or whether to have 1 or 2 hoops. I'm so confused!

Happy, the shop won't hire me one, as she said they don't come back :/

Clairenina, Where have you had your dress from? Perhaps you should take it into a bridal shop and say you want to buy a hoop, and can you try them on...?

That sounds like a bit of a con to me, most take deposits and card details to hire them out so if they don 't come back they charge the full cost!

I've bought my single hoop for £45 from my dress shop.. I couldn't walk without it keeping the layers away from my feet plus it give my dress the beautiful shape.. I think it's well worth the money xxx

Plus You can always sell it on afterwards, it's only worn for a few hours so you could easily make the majority of the money back xxx

Could you get a second hand one?
Also are you sure you want or need a hoop? If you want to fill the skirt out more, see if you can get a netted petticoat to go under the skirt as then when you move it looks far more natural and is more comfortable too, especially when you sit down.

    Thanks for the replies.

I hadn't thought of a netted petticoat. The lady in the shop just said the hoop. Ive never worn one before, so just went with the flow!
Perhaps I will ask when I go for my measurements x

And you're right Mrs H. If I do buy one, I could always sell it on I suppose. Although, what would I wear with my dress when Im doing the ironing in it a month after the wedding ;-)

My hoop isn't a fixed hoop so it still looks natural and doesn't effect sitting down :-) it just squishes when it needs and bounces back when it needs :-) xxx

I got the hoop from the shop, was £50 and thought getting it then and it being the one I know goes well with the dress saved the hassle of finding another!
Didn't get the veil as I was horrified at the price but wish I had now as can't find one like it anywhere, boo x

Yeah, this is what I am thinking Crawf. It all seems like too much hassle. Although Ive just been through my budget spreadsheet, and its looking deadly, so Im trying to cut back where I can.

Mrs H - what kind of hoop is that? I don't think there was an option tbh. I think I need to talk to the shop. Got lots of time left yet though. I need to lose the Christmas Excess before I have my measurements taken...

I'm not sure what it's called, sorry.. If I were you I'd call your dress shop and have a word.. I dreaded having a hoop but I really can't tell it's there at all and it holds all the layers away from my feet so is brilliant cause I tried it on without too and it was a nightmare and the shape looked wrong xxx

D'oh! I was about to suggest you could buy MrsH's hoop if her wedding was first but it looks like you'll be saying your nuptials on the same day so there goes that idea (unless I've misread the dates).
Could always check out the swap shop and see if anyone has one they're looking to shift.

I emailed the makers of my dress and received the following response this morning
Hi claire, Thank you so much for your email.
I really does depend on how big you would like your skirt on the dress. We
always advise singe hoop as this compliments the shape and detail of the skirt.
If the hoop is too large the skirt will not drape the correct way.
I hope this little advise helps. Please do get back to me should you need
    further help.

I've ordered one from bay of e and although I haven't received it yet I'm sure it will be fine. Everyone tries to charge over the odds for everything just because its for a wedding but in my experience so far, every single item that I have bought from ebay for my wedding has been as good as or better than the over priced stuff elsewhere. If you decide to buy from the bay of e, maybe see if anyone is doing a similar version of your dress to get an idea of which hoop would be best :)

Thats a good idea Clairenina. Its a Maggie S dress, and I have tried to message them, but they say to message the supplier instead. It will be difficult to get an impartial opinion from them. I will have a look on the Bay and pr3loved etc.

    Thanks for your replies :)

personally i would want to try it on with dress before purchasing to make sure its right as there are so many different ones. i would just go for one from the shop and then sell it after but they are expensive. if you really don thave the money then try ebay x
