    Hello Ladies,

I haven't been around in a really long time but have had a lot going on in my life! I have a very important question to ask you all.

We booked our venue a fair while ago and due to unforeseen circumstances have changed dates etc, the venue had been great in helping us sort things with them, however due to certain things although we still want to get married we cannot afford the prices the venue are asking (at the time of booking we was in a position where we could afford it) and we have asked the venue several times about getting the prices lower, they have done a little bit but its still a huge amount expected, however the venue have told us a few months ago that if we was to cancel our date again for a new one or cancel the whole entire day then we would be liable for the full amount regardless as to whether we marry there! I think that is a disgrace because its not like they wouldn't have enough notice to offer to another bride whom can pay for it all and I do not want nor could I afford to pay the full price for a wedding that we might not have should we cancel (for something smaller). So I want to know where I stand if we decided to cancel it, I am not bothered about the deposits we have already paid but I do not want to tell them we wish to cancel if they tell us we're still required to pay everything!? or is there a way in which we can get the venue to agree on a lower price best suited to what we can afford?
I hope that makes sense and await your replies.

    Claire x

Im not sure about how to get them to lower the price, but in the terms and conditions for our venue, if you cancel before a year, you only lose your deposit, if its 6 months before its half, and anything closer to that its the full cost, or something like that! I would check your t+cs. There should be no way you would have to pay full this far in advance! x

im almost certain they cant charge you the full price, they tend to do it in increments, like, with ours, i we were to cancel now, we would lose the full amount, but with 19 months to go we'd lose the deposit, have you got a contract? id check that. if you dont have one then you can pretty much just tell them to eff off. I'm sure they cant make you pay it all though, as with 19 months to go (unless you have changed your ticker that is) then they can't expect you to pay the full amount as they won't be losing anything really.

I agree with the others the threat of making you pay the full amount if you change date again/cancel is just that a threat .... the only way they could hold you to that would be if it was stated in the T &C`s of the contract you signed .

i think you need to email them ( so its in writing )

    Dear ........

We contacted you on .......( insert date )d to inform you that due to unforeseen circumstances ( you can add what they are if you CHOOSE to , might help ) we would have to change dates , we are greatly appreciative in all the help you have given us however we find our selves in the position of not being able to afford the prices you have stated, we have contacted you several times to try to discuss the matter and see what can be done in order that out wedding still go ahead with yourselves but with only a little being achieved .

We were informed last time that if we were to change our date again for a new one or cancel the whole entire day then we would be liable for the full amount regardless as to whether we marry there! As this is not stated anywhere in your terms and conditions i can only see that this was made by way of threat .

We really want to continue with our wedding at your venue but need to get the prices down ,i`m sure there is a way we cn work together to make sure that we are both happy with the outcome .

I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.

    yours sincerely

Thank you for your help ladies, our contract says the same as what you said April561 if we cancel before a year, we only lose our deposit, if its 6 months before its half, and anything closer to that its the full cost, and no I haven't changed the ticker we have 19 months, but what happens if I haven't paid them a date change fee for new date? (Wanted 1k) despite us paying a date change fee last year?

£1000 just to change the date?! That's insane. I dont know because I've not had to check, but I THINK for ours if we needed to change the date its just something to do with the deposit. To my understanding, venue dependent - some may change the date for free to be nice and helpful, others may say they would need another deposit as some are picky are the deposit is non-refundable.

I don't think they are playing by the rules there!

I'm not sure they're complying with their own contract. If you cancel before the 12 months you should not have to pay the full whack. They're a disgrace is they're saying this to you.

I'd do as Lala suggested xxx

Ok having read the email they sent you it a load of tosh ......

1, why is there a fee for changing date ..... Can only justify a fee IF they are incurring costs ... And they can get a new rubber or tipex in Wilkos really cheaply
2, by changing date you should be signing a new contract ( request it) there fore to say if you cancel again they will refer back to contact sign before is null n void .

My feeling would be to say keep the naffing deposit we are going somewhere where they won't try to rip us off

    Update ~

Thank you so much ladies for your advice and to Lala for her wording to write an email, after sending and discussing with them they have said they are going to cancel our wedding date with no further cost to us as we have 20/19 months until agreed date they would not get us to pay any more but all money that we had currently paid, deposits for venue, rooms etc they would keep which we do not mind as it now means we are free to plan a beautiful wedding more in our budget
    :)
